It might be one of my most favorite prints! I absolutely LOVE the finished dress!
Your lap shots are fantastic. So great to see how you manipulate the fabric under the needle especially easing the sleeve in. With long ties I tend to fold them accordion style and hold the folds with a hair elastic to keep them out of the way. Your dress is absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for your efforts!
That’s a great idea! Those ties drive me nuts and are always causing issues!
I always learn something when I watch you sew! And thanks for the sacrifice so we could see see you put in that sleeve so clearly -- you'll have a special place in the heavenly sew rooms when that time comes!! :) And that fabric IS beautiful.

Your narration is so funny. The angles are really brilliant! Unfortunately the one that’s most awkward for you, is the very best for us. I’m so glad that angle worked! I was pretty excited about it and, honestly, I’m getting a bit used to it. You are right about the dress. I REALLY love both versions so how could I stay mad for long 😉.

Oh my goodness! Thank you for the sewing gymnastics! The sewing angles were perfect, and very much appreciated, but Oh how awkward for you. Could you set the new tripod that you use at the cutting table beside you? Just to the left of you....to make your sewing less awkward for you? You are truly amazing to be able to sew with a tripod between you and the sewing machine! Thank you, thank you 💕👏🏼 ! The dress is going to be beautiful on you. 👗💕
😂 it was a bit awkward at first, but it really gives the “from my viewpoint” angle. I’m actually starting to get used to it!
Maybe have a low tripod (standing on the floor to the left of your left leg) with the camera lens on the right hand side, so sticking out a bit? Or have it set looking over your shoulder and zoomed into the presser foot area?
I also envision a sort of angler fish contraption, except instead of having the camera attached to you, have it either attached to the sewing machine? 😂

Great camera angles! That method of setting in sleeves is the one my mum taught me (she sewed for Belstaff). That dress is going to be lovely - love the colours! Xx

Really like the new angles for the camera. That was some feat sewing by viewfinder!! Congrats and yes I realize how much you love us by doing those angle shots! I also noticed you moved the dress form! She isn't in the spotlight anymore and must be losing her self esteem now.. LOL! I don't know if you knew that she had been in many videos for many months. I always wondered if you used her much as she seemed to always be in the same place. Once even Gidget stopped to look at her when she hopped up into the chair and while she was turning around to get into her usual spot, she stopped to take a look at Ms. Dressform....The dress is going to be beautiful. The bodice seemed to come together easily and the fabric is great. Can't wait to see the rest! Also, hearing the kids yelling, I thought of suggesting you Google, 'Sister Mary Elephant', by Cheech and Chong. I actually had a nun who could have been her double when I was in 8th grade. It's hysterical. Stay safe!
😂 I should do a whole show series around Sally the Dressform 😂. I only use her to steam clothing and level out hems so she doesn’t get too much use. That’s hysterical that I’ve not noticed any of this 😂

I would wind up the ties individually and put on a hair elastic to capture them. Still annoying but 2 little bundles are easier to keep track of than long ties. The sewing olympics is great! Very clear shots.

I love a good wrap dress and have made a few - woven wraps are so great. I’ll have to add this one to my shopping list next time I can go into a Joann’s. Also, I’m Still looking for a good replacement for my favorite - the Appleton (I’m not in the size range anymore). I love the neck binding on that - I assume I could sort out how to put that on a different pattern. Early morning rambling thoughts as I drink coffee and watch 🤪
I fell out of their size range as well (and also LOVED the Appleton). My new favorite knit wrap is the Erica by Seamwork patterns. I get comments every time I wear it. You might take a look!

You showed me details on the wrap bodice that I never know about to make a successful wrap for a size C cup. Also I learned how a wrap is suppose to fit when it is being worn. Thanks for the great tips and the close up camera footage at the sewing machine. Love the dress.

I’m so glad you loved the camera angle! It required a bit of gymnastics, but it’s really the only way I can get that shot without having a camera man. I actually got used to it after awhile 😂.

You could definitely do that!
Regarding easing in extra fabric (sleeve caps, fbas in knits...), do you turn up the presser foot pressure at all? I was taught that that helps ease in the fabric on the bottom because the feed dogs transport more fabric than what is moving on the top layer. I still find it hard not to get puckers, though... Going to try your method of putting my hand in between the layers next!
I don’t mess with the presser foot pressure. I’m sure you could play around with that, but I find that if I’m going slow and using my fingers, I can get it eased in without puckers. It does take a bit of practice, though!
I want to thank you.. I’ve never learned to sew doing adjustments .. then your measurements usually fit ,I wonder why they didn’t teach us this in my high school class way back then now in my 60s( it’s true what they say the mind stays young just our bodies are getting older those lovely changes😒)anyway thank you for showing this, not to many show the one on one I’m still trying to understand ..I’m a visual learner and of course you have questions...now living in a small town no one teaches these techniques.. I would love to understand more did you go to school to learn this?theres a quilting store in the next town they carry lots of quilting cotton fabrics and the Juki sewing machines.. my dream to have one and the serger that threads itself... also all kinds of new quilting machines ,it’s like going into your favorite clothing or candy store could play forever...sorry I transgressed.. but no teachers sad.. thank you again I will be watching and greatly appreciate the tips.. looking forward to more
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the channel! I did not go to school for sewing, but I did apprentice with a custom dressmaker for a couple of years and then I worked in a bridal alteration/custom sewing workroom for a while as well! I learned a ton doing both!

Morning Whitney, the wrap top is looking great so far and the camera angles are awesome. It must be really awkward for you to see and be able to sew at this angle, and I really appreciate all your hard work. When you are serging the seams are you using three thread overlock? It was definitley a bit awkward at first and I can’t sew as fast, but I’m actually starting to get used to it a bit! I use a 4 thread serge. I should probably just do a 3 when I’m just finishing seam allowances, but I’m honestly too lazy to change it 😂.

So looking at your Judy, it confirms my thought that the sleeves are short. Would you draw a shorten and lengthen line across the bottom portion of the sleeve under the armscye and add the length in along that line like you would for the bodice or pant length? I would want the flutter sleeve to come below the fullest part of my biceps which would be about elbow length for me. Love the new camera angles!
It is a shorter sleeve. To lengthen it, I would draw a line parallel to the grain line down from the shoulder point on the sleeve cap the length you want the sleeve. Then draw a line perpendicular to the first line where you want the final length to hit. Because it’s a flutter sleeve, it would have a straight hem, but you want the low point of the curve to hit that line. Then you can just redraw your side seams in from that point. Does that make sense?
@@TomKatStitchery Perfect sense! Okay, one step ready to go, then to master the increase the waist and hips! Is there such a thing as a full waist adjustment?
Cecile Hoare I would do a muslin, but try adding width at center front (both on the top and the skirt). I did that on the McCalls wrap that I made in the daily vlog because I wanted a bit more ease at the bust and waist and it worked just fine.
Love the use of Twill Tape for stability of the Front. I wonder if 1/4” Elastic (not stretched) would work as well? ... or cotton selvage? The Wrap Front is tricky for ‘D’s’; building my confidence that I can do this! Thank you. ~ L
Yes!! Both of those would work! I would try and use the clear elastic if you go that route because it’s thinner, but they would both work!
TomKat Stitchery I think Cashmerette uses elastic on her wrap dresses, too! That was the first time I saw it - I’ve never owned a wrap dress that covered my boobs, so I always have to wear a cami underneath - not great in summer heat...
Hi Whitney. When you say bias strips do you actually cut the strips on the bias or on the grain?
I cut them on the bias.
I watched Part 1 in order to see how you did your FBA on the wrap bodice. I was so hoping to see if the muslin you were going to sew worked as made or did you have to make additional adjustments. I know this was nearly a year ago, so you may not even remember. I ask because I'm trying to figure out how to do a FBA on a wrap bodice that does not have darts...............HELP!
The alterations I made to the pattern were the FBA and then shortening the skirt. I didn’t have to do anything further. Are you trying to add a dart to a dartless pattern or are there pleats or gathers instead?
@@TomKatStitchery Whitney thank you. Just a note, I did go back and review Part 1 and of course there it was your muslin. My bad, sorry about that. As for my issue, the pattern does not have darts, pleats or gathers. Just a cross over bodice. The pattern is designed for woven fabric. My muslin was awful, so I'm sort of stumped.
@@dianneandres3770 if you have a larger bust, you’ll probably need to add a bust dart and then either sew the dart or rotate the dart into gathers or pleats.

You could actually get away with this dress for Christmas/colors (but you'd obviously, have to wear a sweater or cardigan up there in the frozen tundra...)
Definitely! Depending on the fabric, this dress could work year round! I would definitely need a sweater or a layer underneath up here 😂.
Hi whitney. Loving your videos. I just heard about a split dart. Never heard of it before. Supposed to help if the bigger dart gets too pointy. Very excited.
