interesting how lava comes out one vent and smoke and ash come out of the other. and ill bet the noise from that beast is just unbelievable.

Active volcano bucket list item #3, after having visited Kilauea amd Etna and watching both erupt. This would probably be the most spectacular yet!

Un rapport lave-fumée bien balancé, avec quelques moments purement magmatiques. On a envie d'y être.

There are actually some local people believing that volcanoes have a spirit or a soul and they might accept you or not considering how you respect it. I didn't need a guide for Yasur, but in Ambrym Island still in Vanuatu, I had a guide to visit two lava lakes. On the way there was a part of the landscape that we were not advised to stare at otherwise it could show unrespect to the gods and we might not be lucky with the volcanic activity and the weather.
Also when arriving to the rim of Benbow crater right next to the lava it was impossible to breath without a gas mask during the first 5 minutes, but then we didn't need it anymore. "yes of course said my guide, you didn't know each other but now he knows you and understands you, so he accepts your presence here...."
      So cool right?!

Thanks for the feedback! I can assure you that it was a 5 senses experience: you watch the explosions of glowing red lava, you hear it so loudly that you don't even hear you speaking, you feel the ground shaking and trembling, you smell the sulfur gases, and you taste the ashes falling everywhere on you!

No complacence at all when it comes to deal with erupting volcanoes.
Analyse, caution, measurement of the risks, and a decision to take considering all the possible factors. I've been climbing wordlwide volcanoes since 8 years now and the more I study it, the more reasonable I become, an important fact to stay alive !
      Cheers!

@@drixc1 how long has she been venting like this? and is there any regularity to the times it lets loose like at 1:40? also is the lava that comes out of this crater thick and gaseous, or is it fluid and runny? and by the way cheers to you as well Ced Northman

@@derekwall200 --Yasur has been continuously erupting since decades, centuries, maybe a millenium, nobody really knows....
      -
-During my two days and two nights there, the activity was luckily quite intense but not enough for the bombs to reach us (when it's too powerful the authorities close the access because the projections can overpass the rim of the crater) . We could enjoy an eruption every 5 minutes I would say. Sometimes during 15 minutes nothing happens, but then 3 eruptions occur one after the other.
At 4:25 I remember very well that this sequence was 6mins long , I couldn't stop the shooting because it wouldn't stop erupting.....maybe twelve eruptions following...something like that !
--This type of eruption is strombolian (actually the activity of the volcano itself is very similar to the Stromboli in Sicilia) degassing activity makes a rather fluid magma violently come out from a narrow vent.
Lava is definitely more viscous than Piton de la Fournaise in La Réunion , or kilauea in Hawai. But not as viscous as most of explosive volcanoes in indonesia or Japan for example !

Many thx for the support! I'm happy to share this sometimes difficult passion. I always traveled independantly backpacking style with very low budget, never with expansive specialized travel agencies. But I get a lot of useful informations and help thanks to the communities on social networks, in order to know where to go, how to go, the ongoing erupting activity etc etc...
Sometimes it's for the best and sometimes for the worst!
(except for Piton de la Fournaise volcano because I live there, the only difficulty is the volcano itself!)
