  • This is just a quick ride-along review of the 2023 GasGas SM 700. I am also using this as a test to figure out sound, camera settings, and video editing.

Hmmm, I’ve never had my 22 701 flame out before but I have the Rottweiler fuel dongle. It helped quite a bit. Also in my experience the Conti’s don’t need a warm up. They stick like glue and that’s why they wear very quickly. 😉

Yeah, after I did the intake kit, Power Commander, and Fuel Dongle, I haven't had any flameout issues. It is much healthier down low.

Have you still got the bike and still loving it?

Hi, I had a problem ton my '22 701 that felt like a flameout, specifically it was when coasting and downshifting from 3 to 2. Solved with ignition timing adjustment via power commander and fuel dongle.

Yep, that sounds like exactly what happened to me. Once I was cruising real slow at like 20 MPH through a school zone and it cut out when I let off the throttle. The other time I was doing a U-turn on a 2 lane road and it flamed out. Both were on like 90 degree days with high humidity. But since i've done those same mods to my bike, I haven't had it happen at all either. It is definitely starved for fuel down low in stock form.

I have the ES 700 and here in Australia. My bike leaked oil out of the showroom. There are a couple of things to improve the flame out and twitchy throttle. Get some throttle spacers, Went 2 teeth up on the back and a fuel dongle. There is a guy here in Australia that makes the fuel dongle for euro 5 bikes but it will use more fuel between 2-5 km per litre.

Yeah man, the leaky countershaft is really not cool. That has been my biggest gripe with the bike so far. Bikes running lean from factory is pretty standard these days- but an oil leak is certainly not. Especially for the price you pay for a 690, 700, or 701. Aside from that, it's been pretty much all very positive. Since this video, i've done a bunch of performance mods to the bike. I plan to make another video to showcase. The performance gain was VERY noticeable.

Thx, that’s the exact offer I made, no response yet

@@Wizmoto-ml1simy2023 Husqvarna 701 had an oil leak coming from the shifter shaft after one week of ownership. When I took it back to the service department, the tech asked what’s wrong with it. I said it’s leaking oil, and he said, of course it is. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Other than that, great bike!!! 👌👌👌

Hey! You’re suppose to twist the throttle to that thing

Hi, could you tell me what flame out is ? I test rode one and thought it was quite an animal. Great review. thank you.

Hi @marcuslord7145, sure thing. A flameout is essentially just an engine stall from low rpms. So if you are coasting really really slow (without the clutch in), if you dip below a certain RPM, the engine can cut out when you accelerate again. I think there is a lot of interpretation about what actually causes it. I personally think very lean conditions, hot days, and low RPM are almost always contributors to a flameout. In the offroad world, some people even add flywheel weights to prevent this from happening.
As others in the comments have said, the Rottweiler fuel dongle helps this issue tremendously because it richens up the air/fuel mixture. Check out my latest video to see the mods i've done. Since i've done the mods, I haven't had a flameout condition happen at all. Either way, I think a flameout is pretty rare and not something that you should be too worried about. When mine flamed out, I simply pulled in the clutch and hit the starter again while still coasting.

Nice review. How does this bike do on the highway?

For as light and nimble it is in the turns, it still handles the freeway no problem. I plan on doing a freeway-demo-ride-along video next! Coming soon.

How's the bike doing? I went to the dealer today to check it out. Does the exhaust burns the turn signals? like the Husq 701? Are the lights LED? Sorry about all the questions! Thank you 🙏
