So happy to see cyclecruza still making videos years later... Still haven't gotten my first bike unfortunately but will be coming soon now that I got a great job
If you're spending 12K on a bike you shouldn't have to spend any money modernizing it. That's unacceptable. The main reason I didn't get a DRZ is because I wasn't going to spend 7-8k on a bike with 20 year old tech.
If you buy any bike and keep It stock, you’re smoking meth. Every bike that leaves the assembly line needs a new intake & exhaust and a tune to breathe properly.
I have a 2018 I bought new I'll never sell it is the best dual sport, I have only done 3x3 mods( full yoshi system swiss cheese airbox and rejet the carb) and lots of rear tires lol drz rev high almost 11k rpm massive heads on them some guys got 69hp to the wheel out of them with a big bore kit I have not had a single ride without banging the limiter every gear bust wheelies hit jumps ride up curbs factory showa suspension is tits and you could have 2 for cost of one 690-701
KTM is riding the hype wave and name they have for years now. They became comfortable with these prices for bikes with literally nothing new. Its a shame.
I bought the Ducati 698 and just finished the break-in miles on it but so far so good. And it is a damn cheat code in the twisties! I came off of a 2008 Ducati 1098 so I'm not scared of a brand new one. Especially when it shares tech from a Panigale
Seriously, am I the only one who prefers the looks of the 690 & 701 than Ducati SM? For me at least, there is something uncanny or non-authentic about Ducati SM's visuals and I hate it. No matter how hard the Italians try to recreate the supermoto ethos in their own way, they just can't best the og.
And even then, getting parts for the warranty is a NIGHTMARE. My first and last Ducati sat in the shop for 5 months of the year that I owned it waiting for warranty parts to get warranty work.... NEVER again lol. I love my KTMs (I currently have 3 of them) and have not had a problem with any of them.
@@tim11M Yeah good point. All my bikes that haven't had something wrong from the factory have never given me any issues now that i think about it. Guess it's cause i read the manual and do the service required lol. But still... F Ducati and thier horrible warranty services (at least in the DC Metro area) lol.
I love Ducati bikes and the company but don't trust the reliability just yet but they are getting better. The golden rule is to NEVER own a Ducati out of warranty. lol You always sell it before the warranty is just ending. This KTM 690 engine has been out a long time now, they had many years to work out the problems.
I might be one of the only people to say this, but I think the KTM looks better than the Ducati. More traditional. The KTM looks like a dirt bike converted to a supermoto the way it should be. Ducati looks like a street bike converted to a supermoto.
@@tunerdadtunerdad7927he’s right tho. He has a proper sumo already and the mt07 has almost the exact power off the ktm with bulletproof reliable. Doesn’t make any sense
@HughJanus987 This thing is like a Swiss army knife. The yz needs an oil change so often it's strictly a toy. But this has utility that makes it worth it. I'm about to buy one.
Okay after the hell you give KTM for their reliability i am glad you got one, because i am planning to get the new 1390 superduke even though i know i may get a lot of issues with it, but damn that bike is freakin beast in black. Hope you update us o reliability soon. Congratulations.
FWIW, I've owned almost every make out there, and I currently own 3 2023 KTMs (500EXC-F, 690 SMC-R, and 1290 Super ADV S) and these KTMs are just as good as the big four Japanese as far as reliability so far. Granted this ia a small sample size, and I am no-one to you as I am just a random commenter, but I HIGHLY reccomend if you're interested go for it!
@@karicallegra8194 you are absolutely someone I would really pay close attention to what he says since u own 3 KTM and clearly passionate about them which is what i want when i ask ppl, so i really appreciate it, you have no idea how much i love to own the superduke, and you really gave me a big moral support because all i hear is how bad is KTM, thanks a lot and i will return to this comment and update you if i got the 1390. Stay safe 🙏🏻
@@TIMHARTTT Yeah, I think most main brand name bikes (besides Ducati, horrible customer experiences with them in my area) are gonna be good as long as you keep up with the proper maintainence!! I hope you get it man!! Good luck!!
Just remember hell for ktm and reliability isnt made up , there facts . Reputation earnt and proven , the Fan boys will mislead themselves so dont be mislead yourself .
You'll have more options with the KLX and it's more agile, which is great for the city. It also has enough power if you want to get on the highway. I also have a sumo and mostly ride in the city, and the maneuverability combined with the power is fantastic.
@@Kareem_Alcindor Maybe a little but it wouldn't be much. In Cruza's video he's looking for power while under warranty. Watching his video his bike is slow off the line and this will help big time. Sorry CC i meant under powered.. :) Bike will top out at about 100mph if he ever wants to go that fast but the torque will be incredible.
@Kareem_Alcindor When you spend 12k on a bike, when other bikes are available new at half the price, you aren't worrying over fuel costs. Perhaps an electric bike and a solar panel are more your cup of tea, respectfully
I had a KTM Duke 2 once and it was pure fun. However, the fun stopped at the highway with all the wind and vibrations etc. In addition my ass was hurtin big time. Not the most comfortable of rides. So I ended up selling it cause I just couldn't bare longer trips on the highway with it. Watching this video brought back the fun memories, cause on twisty roads and urban driving nothing beats SM bikes, that's for sure. I belive they are all going electric soon, bringing instant throttle response and even more hysterical acceleration. Thanks for sharing.
*Riding a SM produces as big a smile as riding a jetski,* that says a lot. Riding SM is for fun only, not a computer, not a tourer, and too tall to be comfortable on the highway, just like a jetski. I'm still rocking my 20 year old SMC625 (640), first year the SMC was brought into the US. At 291 pounds and it was the best looking one produced to date. For those that aren't comfortable stopping with one foot down the bike might be too tall. Reliability is less than my DRZ but not bad. KTM parts are not stocked as well as the japanese bikes.
Got to get over the fear of Italian made vehicles. My bikes and car were built in Italy and I've had no problems. You can find issues with machines made in any country.
I have a Rottweiler license plate frame with integrated turn signals and LED's all around. Bought mine in 2020 and their were no discounts you almost had to show up the dealership the day they came in. Mine is a enduro model I wanted something that could do trails and still handle the hwy. It will still surprise you on mountain twisties.
Nice! Never in my riding life have I ever seen a discount on a KTM 690 SMC R or Enduro R they were always sold out and on back order. The very first time I saw a 690 SMC R was at that dealership recently. The last time I saw a 690 Enduro R was at a mom and pops KTM dealership back in 2015 and haven't seen once since. The KTM dealer owner claimed he had to drive to Canada to get it at the time. I had to buy this new bike at a 2k discount.
Having just done a video review on the 2-bikes, I can see why the 690 still appeals because it so raw, cool and cheaper. The 698 is a bit softer, better electronics but expensive.
Good to see you pumped up about bikes again. Get some cool used bikes cheap. Bikes u talk smack about. Trust me when you can have a stable of bikes for 10k. Youll have a blast and have even more appreciation for them. Id be scared of Ktm ducati beamer triumph street bike . Some never have issues but if you do....its a headache. Also i dont understand the dual muffler on the Duc such a small motor. Why complicate the exhaust. 2 into one always sounds good on a bike
These old school blinkers are parts extra for the US market. My Gasgas es700 and my buddies 690 enduro have small nice oem led turn signals. I know that also other manufacturers use non led turn signals for the bikes sold in the US
The Ducati Mono Hypermotard definitely looks better IMO. It is a new model though so I'm a lil skeptical about it's reliability as it's a new engine I believe. But I'm sure Ducati has put out a winner for the supermoto market. I gotta wait to test ride the Ducati.
Actually that is how i would break a bike in...no high rpm long extended time for awhile till first oil change. Try to keep real slow 100 miles. Otherwise mostly normal w some occasional blast of throttle. Quick bursts like were doing not pinned or blasting 5 miles down highway.
3 similar bikes now Cruza, I like having a favourite and surrounding that with other great biking genres. I like to keep it interesting, and myself hyped for when I get on my favourite (which does change pending on season and type of riding). Out of my bikes from 125cc, 250cc, 300cc, 400cc, 650cc and 1000cc I use my 125cc naked the most. It’s cheap, fun, reliable and easy. I’m not so worried about it being stolen, riding in the rain/getting dirty or putting high mileage on it on my work commutes. Easy to self service. Puts my OCD and frugalness/cheapness at ease 😂. It also somewhat humbling knowing that in many third world country’s this is their Ferrari. Their only option. It actually makes me feel good sitting at the lights next to a more exotic/expensive bike. Also, it is probably the cheapest method of transport outside walking (which isn’t possible for me).
Superbikes are boring until you're doing 80 mph and up. That's the problem. Nothing fun happens until the motor is screaming, landscape is turning plaid, and the wind is tornadic. Good luck retaining your DL and keeping your butt out of jail. 650-890cc bikes are fun from zero to 100.
Amazing king class bike: Sports exhaust (zb Leovince Nero), Comfort seat, Open Airbox (Radegarage or Rotweiler), Coober ECU (or ECU flash) and a Led Light as essentials upgrades to recommend.
When I heard your Delight at the discovery of Gas, I understood perfectly what you were talking about, because I owned such a motorcycle. incredible feeling! absolutely deservedly recognized as the Leader of Supermoto🥇. We are waiting to see if anyone will be able to surpass him. good review and correct opinion. - like👍🏻
I always wanted to get a KTM or an husky and when I finally could they put the tank in the back and made asymmetrical and I really don’t dig it in the slightest.
Bought a ktm 690smcr in February, and i absolutely love it. Its a blast to ride, nimble and pretty fast. Round the b roads its a animal. Only yesterday i had a bloke on a ktm 1290 super duke pull into the petrol garage asking how the fu#k i was going round the bends that fast 😂 He literally said that he is trading his in and getting one! If your thinking of getting one you won't be disappointed!
Lol “for the noobs out there, get a klx 300 sm” that’s me. I got back on two wheels after many years and I picked up a 24 klx 300 sm. I liked it so much I also got a 22 klx 300r for the trails. Great beginner bikes
To me the supermoto is comfortable, just get the comfort seat. Supermotos have great leg room and upright seating. I can ride this bike to California and back.
@@CycleCruzaI might have to try one out. I had a Honda cb500f that I really enjoyed. Then had a Goldwing and loved that as well but it had too much wind protection. I just bought a Yamaha vstar 1100 for a project but probably won't keep it very long. Looking for my next long term bike.
Its shocking that a 690 single would have less bottom end grunt than a 690 twin (KTM vs Yamaha I mean). I guess its how KTM did the internal gearing and how KTM tuned the engine. Maybe a sprocket change would be a good idea for that KTM, as well as the obvious exhaust and tune. @cyclecruza I'd love to pick your brain, a lot of people online say that the MT07 (especially the old FZ07) feels very similar to a supermoto and is equally as fun, is this true?
The 690 is the same as the gas gas 700 and the 701 ktm done it first so that’s how it stands as for the Ducati unless you want a serious hole burned in you pocket for parts and reliability Ducati look very nice but just becuase it looks like doesent mean the internal is better in any way I know loads who have had ducati and parts break fall off
Looking at vehicle prices these days is rough. My FZ-07 was $7k out the door. Now you're talking about a KTM 690 SM that isn't all that different (maybe longer suspension) for double that price? Plus you are going to spend more money modding it? Tough to swallow. I'd hate to hear how much the Ducati is! Cars are getting to be the same. So expensive.
Get one! I've been wanting to get a few KTM bikes over the last decade and nearly bought a few but it never worked out until now but I'm glad I got one, this really is a fun bike.
@@CycleCruza I’m just really skeptical because I currently have the 22 RC390 and have had problems with it since last June. It’s literally been in the shop for a misfire code its whole lifecycle.
Lemme tell ya my husky 701 with akra exhaust and tune used to pull like crazy 😅 that bike could gap liter bikes off the line no joke the launch was so easy
Before even watching this video I already know why you picked ktm.. you think it’s more reliable than Ducati.. well it’s not actually if I was a content creator and I were to make a top 10 most unreliable motorcycles list.. 690 wouldn’t just be on the list I’d be damn near the top.. Ducati’s aren’t unreliable it’s a misconception they’re very reliable.. problem with Ducati’s is their parts are expensive and they’re difficult to work on.. but in terms of having issues with the bike your chances are much higher with that ktm.. much much higher
Another motorcycle content creator from the Cleveland area, who just picked up a Hyper Mono, keeps popping up in my videos. You two should hook up for a collaboration.
The twin balanced 690 engine is built and tuned for HP, not torque. If you want a torque monster you'll need the old 690 engine, pre-2019 KTM or pre-2017 Husky. That motor will pull your arms off! But it has A LOT of vibrations.

Best of luck with your first bike purchase. Thank you for being a viewer, I appreciate it.
Going fast on a slower bike is more fun than going slow in a fast bike
Truth
That bike isn't slow, though.
But what if you're going the same speed on both bikes, and accelerating quicker on the fast bike?
It’s two different things on 2 different bikes💀

I had a 640 Supermoto and it was an absolute blast.

Not a fan of KTM but I am a fan of SUPERMOTO! Happy for you cyclecruza! I will add a supermoto or dual sport to my arsenal soon...
Have you ever had a KTM? I had to try one and so far I'm impressed, only time will tell tho.
" non-authentic about Ducati SM's visuals " It's the cast wheels, SM's have spoked wheels.
I'd say the worst is its headlight and that fatso muffler.
@@slipngrip Muffler? I thought it was a piece of luggage.
Honestly the 690/701 engine is reliable as hell. Wouldn't trust the Ducati for shit unless I had extended warranty on it.
@@karicallegra8194most of the time it's the owner not the bike actually
Yeah, looks just like another Hypermotard, good looking but nothing groundbreaking. I always thought the KTM 690 SMC R and Enduro R looked great.
aprilia looks much better than all of them
You finally got a KTM! I've got 3 of them.
See you're not supporting the recession?
Any issues with your KTM bikes?
701 looks better, same bike
Your YZ is better, I would've passed. You have a super moto, MT07 I would've gotten a sport bike.
Your not him my boi
Nobody cares
@@tunerdadtunerdad7927he’s right tho. He has a proper sumo already and the mt07 has almost the exact power off the ktm with bulletproof reliable. Doesn’t make any sense
@HughJanus987 This thing is like a Swiss army knife. The yz needs an oil change so often it's strictly a toy. But this has utility that makes it worth it. I'm about to buy one.
That SMCR would mop up a MT07 on the track.
I would love to know what your viewers numbers are for supermoto content vs other content. I prefer the SM content.
All I know is Supermotos are always #1 to me.
I’m having a hard time choosing between a KLX300sm or a RS457 ,I do mostly city driving ,which one should I go with 😅 I wanna have fun this summer
You'll have more options with the KLX and it's more agile, which is great for the city. It also has enough power if you want to get on the highway. I also have a sumo and mostly ride in the city, and the maneuverability combined with the power is fantastic.
@@MrWilson812 thank you for your input, I hope 300cc is enough power for me ,which I think it will be I’m probably just over thinking
@@JayPimen My sumo is a 300 cc enduro that I converted and has a top speed of 95-100 mph. 300 is more than enough.
CC if your sprockets are 16/42 change the counter shaft to 15/42. That'll wake it up.
Aren't you messing with the fuel consumption if you do that? What are we looking at then?
@@Kareem_Alcindor Maybe a little but it wouldn't be much. In Cruza's video he's looking for power while under warranty. Watching his video his bike is slow off the line and this will help big time. Sorry CC i meant under powered.. :) Bike will top out at about 100mph if he ever wants to go that fast but the torque will be incredible.
@@Kareem_Alcindor The fuel? Get real 🤣
@whomarjb Reasonable MPG is important for a lot of riders. What a dismissive thing to say.
Things that aren't broken don't need fixing. I prefer proven engineering. Big indicators, halogen headlights spread better lighting. Love it.
after 690 it is difficult to change the motorcycle. 14 years already running)
Nice!
Got to get over the fear of Italian made vehicles. My bikes and car were built in Italy and I've had no problems. You can find issues with machines made in any country.
FIAT = FIX IT AGAIN TONY
HUSQVARNA 701 SUPERMOTO
I have seen some of those 690's with 60k miles still on stock engine, stop saying they are not reliable lol
I feel like having to say you've seen some at 60k to prove reliability it says it all. 60k is nothing for Japanese bikes.
KTM , GASGAS, HUSQVARNA all good to go. Mine scoots...

Ducati 698 and 690 SMC R are similarly priced in Europe ~12500
Love our guys excitement too

Congrats and enjoy! I chose the 698 Mono but both are great machines. Can’t go wrong either way.
Maybe you’ve already answered this question but what year is your 690? What’s your general location?
I agree with you 100% Super-Moto is the fun life. Hell Yeah ! 😅
💯
Looking forward to the upgrade on the KTM.
I've ordered all the stuff. It'll be completely changed.
I knew that wouldn't take long. This bike requires mods imo.@@CycleCruza
Quick bursts like were doing not pinned or blasting 5 miles down highway.
great topic to cover as I am in the market for one now
See if you can get a deal, the new 2025 bike is coming so they are looking to clear inventory. Best of luck!

It’s really tall and expensive. Might not be a good beginner bike. Just keep an eye out for oil and coolant levels. And you’ll be good.
I would have liked your opinion on the Duc, but I think you made the right decision
You should do a Video on the 690 break in. I got 600 miles on mine and ride it hard through the twistes
I've always believed "break it in how you'd normally ride it." 🤙
I always ride em like I stole em. 🤣Hopefully that won't be a problem on this KTM because it never has been on a Japanese motorcycle.
Amazing king class bike:
Sports exhaust (zb Leovince Nero), Comfort seat, Open Airbox (Radegarage or Rotweiler), Coober ECU (or ECU flash) and a Led Light as essentials upgrades to recommend.
Can you talk about how you got the sweeet deal brand new? I’m curious as to how you got it for 12,600 otd
When I heard your Delight at the discovery of Gas, I understood perfectly what you were talking about, because I owned such a motorcycle. incredible feeling! absolutely deservedly recognized as the Leader of Supermoto🥇. I like the choice. I’d stay away from that Ducati for two years. Recall parts on order from Italy=summer wasted!
WOOO HOOO! Build series. 🤗
New and have too change sh!t mod it up! Total 15k…
And KTM is the parent company of gas gas Husqvarna , duh
I don’t mind the look of those stock blinkers at all but it’s all personal preference. Nice bike
Lol “for the noobs out there, get a klx 300 sm” that’s me. I got back on two wheels after many years and I picked up a 24 klx 300 sm. I liked it so much I also got a 22 klx 300r for the trails. Great beginner bikes
I see these used on FB for 9k. Been thinking about one but I feel like the 450s is more what I’m looking for. I’m a 600 right now
I would like a super moto but i would also need comfort for the 3 hour rides i frequently do.
Amazing bikes I have the 701 and love it ❤
Did u say u drove 600 miles to get it?
No, only about 270 miles roundtrip, just to Pittsburgh and back.
Why? Because it's your money 💰💰💰!!
that sick 2 thousand dollar deal
Its shocking that a 690 single would have less bottom end grunt than a 690 twin (KTM vs Yamaha I mean). I guess its how KTM did the internal gearing and how KTM tuned the engine. Maybe a sprocket change would be a good idea for that KTM, as well as the obvious exhaust and tune. @cyclecruza I'd love to pick your brain, a lot of people online say that the MT07 (especially the old FZ07) feels very similar to a supermoto and is equally as fun, is this true?
Just so you know a 690 is actually faster then a mt 07

Nice to see you on a KTM
Me too! Finally! I truly love this bike so far, no bs.
Yup... he'll find out
Bro, never seen you riding on a free way? whats up!
Ill take an aprillia svx550 over this. Mostly cause i cant afford the 690. But that 550 is ffn fast man. Bit fragile but man what a bike
Ducati 698 has 4 years warranty tho, with no restriction in mileage.
Showcasing an 690 on straight road.
698 is not brand new engine, it's L twin 1299 single cylinder engine...
I does look like the bikes will get a re-due in 2025 per what's on line
Omggggggg I want one -.- or a husq 701. But im more attracted to the ktm
Not a bad proce the supermotos sit on the lots though not the Enduro.

Cool to see another Clevelander motovlogger.
got last years , so much fun !!
The twin balanced 690 engine is built and tuned for HP, not torque. If you want a torque monster you'll need the old 690 engine, pre-2019 KTM or pre-2017 Husky. That motor will pull your arms off! But it has A LOT of vibrations.
You should know that KTM owns husqvarna and gas gas motorcycle...and they are almost same bikes....use same engine as I know

You’re sitting way too far back on that bike. They like weight forward.

I just want that Ducati because it’s a Ducati 😉
