The platinum jubilee was 2 years ago, the queen passed away almost 18 months ago, why are they releasing those one's. It's right that Hornby try and catch up on their releases as some are years behind, but they should move to a quarterly announcement when stuff is about to hit the shelfs like Bachmann do.
It's good to see it's not just Gw that releases old models with new paint schemes! 😇 And you echo the underwhelmed community reaction for a model line. 😂
Haha it's always good to be on the same vein. So long as people remember that the people working at Hornby are human too, and that decisions are often made by a collective, not just one person! 🤣🤣
The Margate Random Model Generator never ceases to amaze. Another year of treading water. Massive backlog of previous years announcements to get through ,not got the money to chuck at it all. A TT range that needs new products to keep the interest going & now faced with losing over £100-150,000 in sales pa now that Hattons is to cease trading. Backed up by a aging collector demographic, next to zero interest from youngsters & a faif number of would be purchasers who have seen their disposable income cut to the bone. Perfect storm aided by a production roster for 2024 greeted with apathy. You do wonder what solvent Mike had inhaled beforehand to get excited about any of it. Bachmanns announcement vids can be coma inducing at times but this year Hornby have them a run for their money.
I think when you're the visual face of a brand, you have to get excited about new products or step aside for someone else to do it! I strongly believe social media teams deserve an award because their job is to get an hyped about something that they might not be hyped about themselves! Regardless. There's nothing in this collection to get me excited anyway
Underwhelmed I was, too. I REALLY thought there would be an LNER 'Swallow' liveried 91 + full rake of Mk4s. Indeed a loco + DVT would have made a good pack. Maybe later in the year...? On a purely selfish note (tho there may be others who agree!) I'm hoping to be wowed by the TT:120 announcements in April. I'm loving TT and it has given me an increased excuse to model UK stuff.
Yeah agree with you on this, a rubbish range this year, with nothing really to tempt me, maybe the GBRf 67 but other than that nothing, just too expensive and and pretty naff models. Surprised no Coke rolling stoco but the beatles stuff provided enough entertainment 😂
To be completely honest, It did not matter what Hornby announced for 2024, the prices are totally unrealistic, just like most of there models! Binned the hobby years because of the prices but most of all because of a nephew I bought a set for. After spending time making the oval track and watching the loco go around a couple of times, his words where "What does it do, is that all it does?" before quickly returning to his Lego!
Have to say i agree train sets have no imagination its just here is a oval and a train pack enjoy...... include a station or siding with goods shed something to distract its just a oval in the train set for younger audience. If cant get new people with train sets these smaller scales or doomed. Not even Hattons can trade now. Get to little for what prices are. I now do 5" gauge and drive my locos round different railways because i thought that was better value then hornby and my son loves it.
@@TarolinSchofield I remember in the late 70s getting my first train set, it was the intercity 125. In the box, it came with a station, a shed that the siding went into, a signal and a few other bits, I loved that set! Fast forward to 2023, £130 later, the most miserable, sad looking train set. As much as I tried to sell the concept of the train set to my nephew, and that he could expand it and add things, he pretty much summed it up, its still not going to do anything other than go around and around. Whats fun about that! That is the things with kids, they are brutally honest. Needless to say, the set was packed up and returned for a refund! I honestly think Hattons will be the first of many to close its doors on this hobby!
I'm impressed that you checked into a hotel just to avoid any possible spoilers. 😂 Very little that caught my interest in the announcement. I probably missed a few things as I kept drifting off. Locomotion is interesting but not for me, but all the novelty crap can do one. Not sure what the link between Hornby and the Beatles is, other than Frank Hornby being from Liverpool and Kohler being a Beatles fan. Really no idea who buys that rubbish.
No new tooling except for locomotion 1. The king has had an upgrade to 21 pin. The flirt was announced back in 2020 I think. Yeah like you I think my wallet is in no danger from Hornby this year.
Do you ever have any issues running locos on this layout, i unfortunately ran into issues with front to back levels on my cabin shelf build and its really put a downer on my build 😢 guessing you're completely level?
The only thing to interest me is Mayflower . I noticed that in the wagons is the SC mineral wagon which I can pick up at shows for £5 !! Seacows and maybe a Railroad item too for me. But underwhelmed , Cheers Kev
@EmperorsPath it really wasn't spectacular. It made me laugh when you realised that the announcement was over and you were like, 'Is that it?'. I know it is a catch up year but really!
I think the Hornby announcements reflect the state of the economy and their recent losses. You can understand them wanting to get the maximum return on all the existing tooling. Full marks to them for continuing the Railroad range, a real boon to many cash strapped modellers. It is a shame that other UK brands don’t offer budget ranges. It will be interesting to see if they continue with an annual catalogue if they are to make more frequent new product announcements? Will we see them focus investment into their European ranges rather than the UK market?
It's very possible! I have no problem with the railroad range. Some of my best performing locos are railroad locos in fact! I do feel that there are some features that definately should have been shipped off long ago though! It will be an interesting year at least! I'm intrigued by what the TT stuff will be later in the year!
Maybe he meant "enhanced" decoration rather than "enchanted"! lol. Sadly not much to enchant me this year - with the exception of the slim water tower!
Nothing new for me from Hornby and I am with you on this one. Not even a Class 60 in another livery. That's okay. My money goes to Cavalex Models for theirs instead.
Trains/Railways and The Beatles are both common 'special interests' among neurodivergent people. I'm that guy that likes the idea of beatles train stuff but it's like the laziest designs ever. The Yellow Submarine Eurostar had a cool livery but everything else feels like they cut and pasted jpgs off google images. Sorry to rant haha.
I get annoyed with them selling items as Tri-ang and Hornby Dublo when they have no similarity with these historic locos other than visually. It's just a marketing ploy to rip customers off and their prices are hugely unrealistic. As with their other items. Its all about money now instead of supporting the hobby.
I often find I don't see why you'd do the triang stuff. But it clearly sells. My local model shop always has the sets gone within a week of receiving them! 🤣
@@EmperorsPath some of us with old Track still enjoy running Tri-ang and Hornby Dublo locos. They are way more reliable and can be serviced. I have 2 layouts with track from the late 1950's. @@jonathanlake6053 the old companies used to mass produce to keep the costs down. Hornby releases limited editions. The costs are stupidly high. End of argument.
To me the list is as empty as the charisma and chemistry of the presenters. It was awkward to watch and all the brief with the guy on the left could and should have been a separate video. The 66 in platinum livery feels like it's a filler since it's 2 years out of date. The sea cows are the only thing I got excited for. No idea what the beatles stuff is about it feel aimed at specifically beatles fans who don't know it's all old outdated cheap kit with a fancy print. 😅
Very Beige, nothing exciting the Midland coaches are old stock and not improved and they don't represent a proper Midland coach. The good news is I shall save money.
Your excitement really comes across for these announcements, mate 😂
Some would say, I am "a ray of glorious sunshine"
"Everything" was "Limited edition" as usual! 1000 off! = Premium price tag? The big 'D' couplings work on train sets, tight radius BTW.
Fair enough!
