At the price it is, it confused me too. I can get a 20 voice Super Gemini with dual controls and a ribbon controller for £3,300, or a 16 voice Super 8 with no ribbon controller for £3,000….makes no sense at that price unless space is a premium and you absolutely need the weight shaved off for portability. If it were truly priced between the 6 and Gemini, fair enough, but it’s not.
Agreed, the space where the ribbon controller was makes it feel like the whole thing could have been made narrower. Still, it’s more portable for sure, relatively speaking anyway.
It's a hybrid actually, but that doesn't mean it should be full of effects. It's already cluttered with functions and controls without having a screen. An effects section would make its operation a mess.
@@antikytheramechanism7909 ...all of the synths you refer to, have a screen and just a few or none of the secondary functions that a Super-6/8 has per control. It might not be immediately obvious but they are much better designed as musical instruments. UDO synths are robust and beautiful with a unique sound, but it doesn't take long to realize that they prioritize 'form over function' design which practically leaves little room for additional features. You also have to consider the cost for added dsp power and development in the case of an FX section.
Oh the ignorance of some people. Personally I’m glad they don’t load their hybrid synths with effects. What they have is a family of synths geared around synthesis, go figure. Sure, where do you draw the line as to what constitutes synthesis? They drew theirs and it means you are free to hook up whatever external effects you like. It’s like complaining that you spent several grand on a surround sound speaker system but didn’t get a sub woofer. No shit, they expect you to buy the best sub for you and your needs. Just like they expect you to buy whatever external effects you want, but the synth itself is the beating heart of it all.
Lovely sounds, lovely plaing. Thanks Will and HandInHand 💙
I love that people seem to be sleeping on what might be the most perfect synth design of all time.
As a former owner of the Super 6 and a recent owner of the Super Gemini, this synth confuses me.

Cool synth, but I feel it should've been a bit more compact. That giant empty space looks weird. Still sounds awesome though!

The keys extend under there and what provide the fantastic feel
This is a digital synth, it should have phaser, massive reverb, all kinds of effects. Weird that it doesn't.
the oscillators are digital for more waveform options. virtually everything else is analog.

@@Pacman1ac It didn't hurt the Prophet 6, Sequential Oberheim, Summit, Hydrasynth, or all the others that have effects.
