  • We made our first night over trip with our new Alpacka Raft Oryx. We show in the video how to put gear inside and give some camping tips for beginners. A packraft canoe is a great vessel to paddle flat water and calm rivers.
    We bought out Oryx from the official EU Alpacka Raft dealer: packrafteurope...
    We also work in the same company as customer service, but the raft is bought with our own dirty money.

    I was interested in this raft for an option to keep a boat in my van without needing to lift and mount something on top. I couldn’t find many reviews but went for it anyways and have enjoyed it so far. This will be helpful for others looking to buy it. We reused our old kayak paddles but they are not the proper length and tend to drip in the boat a lot so I will look into canoe paddles or maybe the combo Alpacka canoe/kayak since my wife could convert to kayak style when I’m photographing. It’s nice to see two people camping set fits nicely as we’ve only paddled from a base camp so far.

      We bought now the Aqua Bound Shred Apart paddle in 220cm length. It's good kayak paddle for single person use with Oryx and it can be converted to 2 quality, lightweight 145cm canoe paddle.

    Hello Caj,
    I would also like to buy a wooden paddle for the Oryx.
    You sit relatively high in the Oryx and hold the paddle at a bit of an angle because of the tubes.
    Would you go with a relatively long paddle for that reason?
    For example, 62 inches (157 cm).
    I'm 6'2" (188 cm).

    • @caide
      @caide  Рік тому

      Hello! My wooden paddle was chest high for me. I don't remember the exact lenght, maybe 160cm. I am 176cm long.

    I love it. I was going to buy the Alpacka Mule but I'm going to try to make my own 2-person raft instead at DIY Packrafting. Beautiful craft! I am 6 feet 1 inch tall and 270 pounds, so I need a big raft. I can also bring my son along!

      Good call Chris, I've been eyeballing DIY's ultralight for a potential winter project build for my summer alpine lake trips. I think the trick with their boats of course is actually being able to successfully put it together without too much of a learning curve. Nice looking boats, the Alpackas are really nice too. Good luck!

    Hello Caj, regardless of the fact that the Foranger and the Oryx have different strengths and areas of use - do you sit as upright and as comfortably in the Forager (with an additional seat in the middle) on both seats as you do in the Oryx?

    Hello! I'm deciding between the Oryx and the Forager Alpacka model. Is the Oryx comfortable to paddle with just one person? Would it be possible to paddle it with a kayak paddle? How much space is available inside the raft when two people are in it? Thanks for your help! Great vid :)

    • @caide
      @caide  4 роки тому +1

      I like the seats with Oryx and it is more comfortable to paddle alone than the Forager. I tested it alone with 210 cm kayak paddle and it worked great. 220 cm would be better.

    I just ordered a Oryx. Do you prefer using two one sided canoe paddels with the Oryx. Or two ordinary kajak paddels. If so how long would does padels be? Im 185cm tall if that mathers.

    • @caide
      @caide  3 роки тому +1

      We like the most using two canoe paddles. With one kayak paddle is also doable to paddle alone. With two kayak paddles you are faster if you are in hurry, but it's relaxed to paddle with canoe paddles.
      220 cm is quite optimum. It is doable with 210cm but little bit too short. 240cm is a little bit too long, but some people like it.
      Good choice is a shred apart paddle. For example Aqua Bound 220cm. You can use it as 220cm kayak paddle or change it to two canoe paddles. With this paddle you can paddle alone or with a friend 🙂
      Rivers with rapids are really fun also with canoe paddles.

      @@caide Your video provides insight into how the inflatable canoe can be best leveraged to explorer nature while providing a beautiful backdrop. the video is both informative and entertaining. thanks. action videos are also pretty cool. I would like to get a better understanding as to how well it would handle a crosswind, track, and at what speed/distance you think you could manage for a couple of hours of paddling.

    • @caide
      @caide  4 роки тому +1

      @@martinclennon4640 I have just short use for the Oryx, but I could notice, that it take side wind and starts to move sideways easy. What was strange, usually packrafts wants to turn the bow towards the wind, but this guy turns sideways to the wind.
      When paddling 2 persons with gear easy pace with canoe paddles on a flat lake with minor wind, it goes 4,5 - 5 km / h. If we use more force to our strokes, it goes 6 km/h.

    Design question: Why is the inflation tube for the front seat on the top and not on the bottom? Looks like it is more in the way and it doesn’t look as good? Also if you fish, it is something for your line to get tangled on...

    • @caide
      @caide  4 роки тому

      You need to ask these from Alpacka, but I like it on the top, it is easy to control the air pressure. To that tube, I don't think anything can tangle. If you do serious ww, you want to remove that seat, but Oryx is designed mostly to flat and small rapids only.
