  • Part one of a multi day solo packrafting bushcraft camping trip, lake hopping in wild lakes using a #packraft by Kokopelli packrafts. On this first episode I hike with all the trip's gear and make a camp just 1.5 km away from the first lake. Best way for me to see if i forgot something vital before i hit the lakes and more trails. As usual there is some campfire cooking, bit of rain on the first night but the tarp shelter did its job.
    Special thanks to kokopellipackraft for sponsoring this trip via product samples.

    Packrafting is a fairly new sport that's picked up popularity in the past years. Their ability to be folded into the size of a small sleeping bag, makes packrafts a great tool for adventure. People going on hiking and lake hopping trips, exploring remote mountain rivers or just looking to have some fun with whitewater rapids. Or like myself, looking for a lightweight vessel to reach those hidden painting locations.
    This multi day trip is a way for me to see if packrafting is something for me or not. Its a great way to access remote lakes and rivers with my outdoor painting gear. As usual time and hard use will tell about the products durability and usefulness.
    Please consider getting some instruction on packrafting or kayaking before taking on any adventure with it, in any kind of water. Always observe safety measures like proper instruction, helmets, life jackets, repair kits, etc... After all even though these thing are built super tough, it's an air filled raft you are sitting on and they do puncture if unlucky.
    Next part will be up next weekend.
    New videos every week, thanks for watching!

    That was a very intriguing packraft; I wanted to know more so I went to their website to see the other variations. Frankly, I was a bit interested in the fishing or lake version. They seem to be reasonably priced.
    - Storage inside the tube! I never thought of that, I thought the tube was necessary for the max. floatation and I expected to see you have to put your pack between the legs or behind your seat. Does the use of the tube for storage affect the load capacity or balance?
    - Set up time - my guess for the first time it took 30 min or so? A person who has practised could probably set up in half that time.
    - The bag to inflate vs. the micro-electrical pump vs. a foot pump; the micro pump seemed to be quite efficient.
    - Entry/exit; how comfortable or easy was it for you?
    - How much freeboard did you have? With you and your gear - how close were you to the 300 # capacity?
    - Did you use the spray skirt on this?
    - What was the total weight impact for you? Packraft + pump + paddle + PFD + boat safety kit? In Canada for example, kayaks still have to carry a minimal safety kit (PFD, whistle, heaving line, bailer/pump, flares).
    - What was it like for heat transfer from you through the membrane to the water?

    • @NagualeroArt
      @NagualeroArt  5 років тому +4

      Those look good too. 1. Probably. Less air less boyancy but they do note a max load capacity of 136 kg. As long as you don’t go above that including your own weight all should be good. And that should have been tested with the tubes filled up I would imagine. I saw no difference when it was full or not, apart from when picking it up from the water and carrying it loaded. The main pack goes on top of the front part of the raft secured by straps.
      2. Set up is quite quick if you watch how to videos. Few minutes really. Without them, yes half an hour probably.
      3. I found it super easy and stable to get in compared to canoes or kayaks. Specially if you do it horse saddle style then put your legs in. They are very stable rafts in my opinion.
      4. Myself, gear, food,
      painting gear + raft, around the 130 kilo mark give or take a kilo or two.
      5. Micro or feather pump is the most practical and weights close to nothing. The raft inflates in seconds. But I will always carry the bag as well. I never trust electrical things 100% specially on water based trips
      6. Yes when it was raining only
      7. See number 4. including safety gear and food etc . on their website they have a full weight list for each part of the raft and gear
      8. Definitely there is conductive heat loss if you don’t use a barrier of sorts betwwen yourself and the boats floor. The integrated inflatable seat does a great job insulating you from the water, never felt chilly or cold. They sell a full air deck but I just use my seat pad on my feet
      Great questions 👍

      good point. better tape that zipper tag next time. did not think of that. thanks

    • @dutchcourage7312
      @dutchcourage7312 5 років тому

      @@NagualeroArt bit surprised it's just dangling there anyways? especially in a T shape, which seems to be more prone to actually snag on something. Should probably have some rubber T shaped 'sink' extending from the zipper end where one can push it in. More secure like that, and less prone to snagging.
      Dunno if they asked you for feedback, but if so, feel free to share that thought above ;)
