Renault had a battery swap solution in Israel over a decade ago - "Better Place". Same logic - reduce initial sale cost of vehicle and breaks the "my battery" mentality. The other great benefit of this "Battery as a Service" model is as battery tech evolves so can the rolling stock - easily and with a BMS firmware update in the station if needed. (Perhaps batteries can ID themselves in a Plug and Play manner.) Finally if all the batteries are kept accessible then recycling - or repurposing becomes very very simple. There is a company that is repurposing worn EV battery packs (as is) as home grid power backup. This makes sense as the rapid charge and discharge nature of EV use is not applicable for the home grid market and as such the normal failure mode causing the battery to be replaced is avoided. Great solution. Be great if these packs could be made in one form factor per vehicle size. Standardization would help drive adoption.
So for the small battery: 165€/month -> 1980€/year -> 19'800€/10 years (current batteries are around 90% health at this point) ... but of course, that's the price to pay when renting and not caring about the battery (what happens in case of a crash since it doesn't belong to you ?). limited to 2 swaps/month ??!!? So on long distance travels ... which is the only use case ... you have to go only once a month to a location needing only 1 swap (2 with the return). Rest of the time you have to use DC chargers ... that swapping was supposed to replace ... I'm struggling to find the point in all this. Or is it free swaps and then you have to pay ?

Battery swapping will only be superior to charging if the swapping station is around the corner. If you have to drive several km to get to the station it’ll cost you time and range. In this case homecharging will be superior to swapping. But there really is huge benefits in swapping if you are on the roads all the time for work. But again, only if there’s enough swapping station which is not the case at this point. Here in the Netherlands there’s only 11 available in the whole country, that simply is not enough.
06 minutes 20 seconds plus the time you have to wait in the queue. It will be interesting how you can expand the capacity with relative little space to use. Definitely better than conventional battery charging, but only as long until conventional charging speeds up. Also it will be interesting, how big the capacity of one station is in one day. How many cars can be swapped with a new battery, until the input of each car is to high for the station to keep up charging the batteries?
This can be done in 1 minute, if/when properly optimized. And no queue should be if you just predict arrival of each car that needs a swap through the app.
I guess whether this is worth it or not comes down to pricing of the car itself. If you're paying 2,000 euros per year to lease the battery, and you typically keep your for 10 years until the residual is basically down to 1/4, then paying 20,000 euros over the life of the ownership in addition to the car purchase price is going to be tough pill to swallow.

I'm not bullish about swappable batteries since it will become a design liability in the future. The feature will essentially box the same design 5 - 10 years later, since every nio car from now on will need to incorporate swappable batteries regardless of future battery innovation or car design innovations. There is a reason why Samsung Galaxies stopped having swappable batteries.
Wrong. The only standardization is dimensions. Already, higher ranges and even new battery chemistry like LFP is beginning to be introduced to improve performance of the car without need for expensive modification, if anything, instead of hindering innovation, it's the very opposite of what you say! It's augmenting it!

So you pay a monthly subscription for thr batteries too. Wow. I knew there was a catch. Right now car makers are losing massive amounts of money which means they will charge more for this in the future. When electric cars came out a few years ago, there were free charging stations everywhere. Now most are not free. You have to pay sometimes more than gasoline
You get a €10-15-20'000 discount on the upfront price of the car. Since you don't need to pay for the battery. I think cheaper lower range batteries can be €50 per month, while highest range newest battery tech might be €150 per month. Consider if you go on a road trip perhaps you can just rent the highest range battery only for those few days you need longest range, then swap back to your cheap battery range when you're back to your regular short daily range needs at home.
What if you planing to camp and there to charging or battery swaps, and there no WiFi to call for help. What about solar or legs power recharger to charge a battery for 3 day😂😂😂
Meanwhile the car industry in Germany is doomed because of cheap Chinese cars that will flood the market. This batter swap is not practical on a large scale.

Cuz a prius will never feel and drive like a nio😂 those things drive like a magic piece of cloth like from aladin. Those thibgs feel weightless driving them. Ive driven a couple and im also a nio mechanic in the netherlands. I was one of the firdt group sent to germany for the training last year
car business and battery business finally can be seperated
NIO🎉
Still you need to calculate with the time to get back and forth to these swap stations. It needs a network of swap stations witch is quite costly. Love the idea though but will you have an easy and close access to them is the question here.
You can just plug these in at any charging station including at home if there is not a swap by you. 88% of nio owners in china now live within 3km of a swap station.
Same with charge station lol you have to get back and forth plus you have to wait 30+ min there…that alot of wasred time.
@@airrodgers7277 Super chargers are quite easy to find near where you live these days. At least here. But I still find it more annoying to drive away too far. But that's me and my experience from using a MB E-Class NGT around 2010.
@@onetwothreefour-s1n Well that's my point that you need a network of swap stations. Signing up for BaaS and then also charge at home is quite pricey.
Do you think Europe will have the same amount of swap stations ?
NIO is the most convinient. I dont know how they are evan able to sell cars that charge overnight or several hours? that is ridicules like you are waiting for comunity bus by the schedule...idea of owning a car is to be autonomus at any goven moment and NIO is the only EV that can perform that. this company is the future!
Gotta love the Chinese. What can we do without them?
BMW OOOO VF Porshe Tesla wit eAuto are just " *yesterday* " copmpare to NIO
Nio has horns
Nio c’est l’avenir.
That's comparable to getting gas😱 It's also a forever car!!!😶🌫️
I don't understand why all videos like to blast max volume when music is on. This really agitates me. Why can't the volume be the same as the voice volume. It's too troublesome for me to reduce the volume when the music is on and increase back the volume when you are speaking. FYI, I tend to skipnsuch videos.
beutiful cars, this is the future. who wants to wait overnight or 6-7 hours to have access to his car again
159kwh Semi solid state battery pack with 1k kms of range is coming in Q1 '23. Not in 2024!
Monsieur Anderson vs Nio
Can i just buy nomi I think maybe I can afford her at least 😅
😆 🤣
I want Nomi too.
Attach her to your bicycle 😉
So instead of paying for one battery, I'll be paying for two? NO, THANK YOU.
Nio offers "Battery as a Service" in some markets. You buy the car without the battery, and you pay a monthly fee for battery swapping.
What if you planing to camp and there to charging or battery swaps, and there no WiFi to call for help. What about solar or legs power recharger to charge a battery for 3 day😂😂😂
The high pitched voice of English Nomi is annoying. Hope they could come up with some variations.
How about throwing in a car wash?
it's KILL-O-MEETERS, NOT KIL-AHM-UH-TERS
I wonder how it works in the winter hehe
No it is not!
Meanwhile the car industry in Germany is doomed because of cheap Chinese cars that will flood the market. This batter swap is not practical on a large scale.
Nio battery swapping is cool but don't forget the presentation where elon musk demonstrated battery swapping in just 90 seconds.
Have you watched our video about Battery swapping and Tesla? ua-cam.com/video/3of8zBRe8MA/v-deo.html
Lord just pump some gas and get on with life 🤣
How much did Nio pay you for this advertisement?
lol. NIO is currently expanding into Europe. NIO has 8 swap station in operation or so with many more being built as we speak. All motoring journalists are talking NIO right now. The ET7 just won the prestigious Golden Steering Wheel in Germany. NIO doesnt need to pay anyone anything to get coverage.
We like to cover all EV news, Nio is big news and is challenging the legacy brands, it’s an exciting period!
How much were you paid to post this comment? 🤔
@copa8 Not a dime
Also lol at seething this hard over a six month old youtube comment
DW别来沾边🤢🤮♿︎
You think it’s a bad idea?
@@DWREV DW's news and documentaries have a meh reputation in China as they have a reputation of being well, a bit biased. The poster didn't know DW Rev is different!
Someone from China complaining about biased reporting, funniest thing I've seen today.
What do you think about NIO holding a LOTTERY or RAFFLE to move cars at FULL PRICE. NIO has 120 NIO houses across the globe. ..go to a NIO house and buy a NIO $2.50 COFFEE or DRINK and automatically get entered into a RAFFLE to win a NIO. Lets say a NIO ET5 cost $50,000 that means NIO would only need to sell 166 COFFEES or DRINKS per NIO house to equal that price. Imagine the excitement(youtube videos, facebook post, instagram, local TV news report) about the WINNER. There would be lines around NIO houses with people wanting to buy a NIO Drink....NIO could move 10 cars a day at FULL COST no discounting.. PLUS NIO would get all their money upfront...NO PAYMENT Plan..People would be TREATING their friends to a ROUND of NIO Drinks just to increase their chances. What are your thoughts
