He rā paki i Te Pōporo
It’s a fine day at Bulli Point
Pōhutu i te wai pūāhuru
I dive into the water that embraces me
Ka hoki ngā mahara ki te ohinga o taku pāpā (o taku pāpā)
I think about my father when he was a child
He rā paki
It’s a fine day
Kia hīia ake te ika nui
Let’s catch the big one
Ka haea te kiri
Sliding the knife under the skin
Te oha ka mihia
Grateful for this offering
Katoa mai i tai, mai i uta (mai i uta)
And all the living things
Under the sun from land to sea
Ahureinga o te aroha
My love for you is endless
Tā te tamariki mahi, he wāwāhi tahā
Kids will be kids
E te tau, ka tau kē!
Baby boy, you’re super cool
He aha rā kei tua?
What does the future hold?
Ā tōna wā ka mōhio (mōhio)
Time will tell
Tai kato, kao mai ana te whai
The rays are gathering in the bay now
Whakarongo rā ki ngā manu a Rehua
Listen to the cicadas, the children of Rehua
Ngā ngaru o te moana
And the waves of the ocean
Kua tau nei a Hine-raumati
Hine-raumati, the Summer Maiden is here
Kua hora ko te paki o Hewa, o Rūhī ki te ao mārama
And there isn’t a cloud in the sky
E ngā uri o anamata
To my future descendants
Ka rite rā koe ki a wai rā?
Who will you resemble?
Ki ahau e noho nei, e pohewa ana?
Will you be like me, a daydreamer?
Ka noho atu ki tō ipo, kataina ai ngā whetū?
Will you spend time laughing at the stars with your lover?
Anō te whaea i te ohinga (i te ohinga)
Just like your mother when she was a girl
Whitikina koe e te rā, ko tō ātārangi ka mahue ki muri
May the sun shine upon you and cast your shadows behind you
He tānga manawa
Pause and breathe
Mauri ora (ora, ora, ora)
Live well
Kia hiwa (hiwa, hiwa, hiwa)
And tune in
I kitea rānei te māramatanga e āta whāia ana?
Did you find the enlightenment you seek?
Ka aro koe ki ngā tohu o te taiao
Heed the signs of the environment
Ki te ākau he ahikā
On the beach you’ll find your fort
Nā te tāwhaowhao ka mura
The firewood will be lit
Me āta kī mai kua eke rā te wā
You’ll let me know when the time is right
Nau mai rā, e Hine-i-te-awatea
Welcome, Hine-i-te-awatea, the Light Maiden
As a fellow Maori from NZ, I would have never bet in my life Lorde creating songs in Te Reo Maori, good on you girl.
I know right. All the crap she took early on for being the poor little rich girl from Devonport. This truly is a gift to her people. All proceeds from TE AO MĀRAMA will go to two NZ-based charities- Forest and Bird and Te Hua Kawariki Charitable Trust.
These songs sit even better in Te Reo Maori with their spiritual element.
No small effort, mind blown tu meke, ka pai.
It's so sensitive of her to honor native habitants from NZ. Her talent is from above. I appreciate a lot her perspective of the world and how things really are.
i love how they translated “and now the cherry black lipstick’s gathering dust in the drawer” into “may the sun shine upon you and cast your shadows behind you” not a literal translation, but something that offers deeper insight to what was hidden in the original lyric. beautiful!
i like how all the new lyrics to the songs provide this wider information about the deepest meanings of each song...music is beautiful and so is language
Killing it, Kiara. May the sun always cast the right light on your lipstick.
whakataukii - proverb“Hurihia to aroaro ki te ra, tukuna to ātārangi ki muri i a koe” [Turn and face the sun and let the shadows fall behind you]. In other words: Repent! Turn your being from the gloom and lift up your countenance to the light. Let the darkness fall behind you as you walk into the radiance of the day.
@@djToniTontonNewZealand that proverb is so inspiring
@@adriancarlomanlangit1296 when in the dark we seek light, when the sun high we seek shade, 96degrees in the shade
I think this language fits more perfect than English for the song, I love it!
Solar Power album wont be understood by some but will be considered onw of the best conceptual albums in 5 years
The translator, Hana, has my admiration for this.
SHE'S GIVING US EVERYTHING OMFG😭😭😭
Yes Lorde, true to her country, to New Zealand, giving back to it and it's Indigenous people. She really understands earth, life, and the people. Inspirational! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
I’m so proud dat she embraces her root & celebrates it! & I always find Maori culture & it’s people r so interesting when I was growing up in NZ.
Teina, you speak the truth
Music is one of the most basic things in life. Music is what teaches us.
This makes me homesick in a way. My mom is a Kiwi so I have citizenship but I can't get into the country. I hope my grandma lives long enough to see her. My grandpa proudly spoke Teo reo and taught young Maori. I'd probably be too scared to say much. Haven't seen her since I was 8.
Love your comment! I hope you can meet with your grandma someday again 🥺💓
Kaua awangawanga e hoa! Don't fret. You are a descendant of warriors. You can do it. Korerotia! Kaore e kore ka puta mai nga hapa. Hei aha ki tena! Kia kaha. Kia maia. Mauri ora. Just start speaking. More than likely there will be mistakes but so what? Everyone makes mistakes even with their first language. Be strong. Be brave. Live well.
I hope you go back and see them soon x
I'm convinced this song was written to be in te reo Māori. Even before she released this version I could hear so much indigenous and Pacifica inspiration in the theme, tune and rhythm. Sitting here sobbing as I listen to the audio version of my happiest childhood memories ❤️
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the stunning artwork in the background 🌼..
Oh yes she's got a point, she's an icon, she's a legend and she's the moment
Now co’mon now
She’s everything
I'm so happy she decided to honour the people of the land she lives in in this way. Now I can't help but think what songs like 400 Lux would sound like in Maori 😌
ribs in maori would be a master piece
@@BeatrizSouza-li5yn that would open up a whole new universe of eternal ease
this makes this song that much more pleasant
Wow. This bought me to tears
Te Reo is a beautiful gift you will only ever find in Aotearoa
It’s something that as a kid we were distanced from.
And to see how far New Zealander have to recognise and celebrate this thing of true beauty
Thank you Lorde for reminding this Sydney locked pakeha how proud I am to be a kiwi
The gift of te reo Maori is always, always available for those with open minds and open hearts. Mauri Ora!
For Kiwis, this sounds like how a NZ summer feels 🥰
Facts Spoken sir!
Especially when the cicadas kick in. 2:30 ish.
@@Alphabet5772 Cicadas on Pohutukawa trees as you run barefoot through crispy white sand to the warm sparkling waters. Summer time Aotearoa land of the long white cloud.
Bliss
@@shoalbayboy Black sand beaches for me - with brutal waves - love that~!!!
Woow, I'm balling my eyes out at the beauty. This was already an overwhelmingly perfect song in English and now in Te Reo it is just mind blowing. Thank you for this beautiful piece of art.
Could say it better my self
Tears from this Maori in denial, beautiful song, thank you. Im lost for words.
5:36 that sounds even better omg can't wait to meditate in the garden to this sound
full album please, i want full Maori Version. these are just so priceless, i dont understand a thing, but im a Malay and connecting with the polynesian through this way feels like meeting our distant relatives.
YOOOOO the switch up at the end?? absolutely great choice on letting, what i presume is an actual Maori, sing that part. wow amazing
Marlon Williams is the gentleman that sang on the end, he also sings at the end of the English version too
"Heed the signs of the environment" just goes to show that this song is also in part a call to action a wake up call to what we're doing this album isn't a happy one it's about the state of the world.
I think it can be happy and about the state of the world. Our story is not doom if we are all in this together. It's all over if we lose faith in humanity.
As a New Zealand Maori, this is wonderful and beautiful.
i hope she brings the people behind this EP on tour with her 😌
This is wonderful. One of my greatest life experiences was learning prayer songs in Lakota (one of hundreds of American indigenous languages) and sitting at the drum.
Ella,I just wanted u to know this album is a masterpiece!I love it!
Omg! Thank u Lorde for showing ur love & passion to where ur from(NZ) & its people. Doing this in Maori language is big & u get brownie points for this. Cuz being that I'm polynesian(samoan from America)..never have I heard or thought a big artist would do this & u just did that! I appreciate this alot & I love how it sounds and everything just works together this version with the maori language. Get it! Kia Ora!
Kia ora. Hopefully we get someone high profile to do some songs in Samoan, Tongan etc sister! Now that would be really tumeke!
@@jms3911 yes omg that be interesting but nonetheless cool to see. Lol
Whenever I get homesick I tune into this song, it is just too beautiful. Such a proud kiwi
So beautiful in te reo, I love that these translations include Maori goddesses/legends/myths. Also, more Marlon Williams! Hope they perform this live together
This has such a calming effect on me. It's rare cause I tend to always have my head spinning with ideas and to-dos, while when I listen to this my mind gets peaceful. A wonderful and magical album indeed.
SHE REALLY MADE A MAORI VERSION FOR THIS BOMB ASS SONG
this is truly SO BEAUTIFUL, i love her so much
I don't know what she is saying but gurlllll i'm living
It sounds like these songs were originally recorded in Maori and then She made the English versions because it sounds better in maori
This song sounds like a spiritual cleansing.
It is. It's like ocean, full of life, calm but unstoppable.
Mamy times I've heard that music heals the wounds, but I've never stumble upon one till this song. Thank you.
Too beautiful..
The ending gave me goosebumps…
This is so beautiful I am in awe and just struck
Lorde is the sun of my life ☀️
WOW THIS IS ONE BEAUTIFUL SONGXX❤️
she’s unstoppable in this era i stg I’m being soooo very well fed
Tumeke Ella. Wahinetoa!❤

Very proud to be Maori ka pai to mahi Ella Tino Ataahua to whakaaro Arohanui Katoa!! 🖤 #Tinorangatirotanga #AotearoaNewZealand
Ka mau te wehi. I love these waiata. Welcome back Lorde💜
That outro really hits
Omg this Te Reo Maori version is so much better! This is my fav!! Woohoo!!!
Lorde should release a deluxe version album of "Solar Power" with all of the Maori version as bonus tracks. ♥️
me as a asia guy, I feel something special that even I can't explain for Maori with Lorde voice and the way that pronunciation of this language make me wonder.
That last bit about enlightenment is so good. Hits me right in the feels
Still my favorite song on the album
E Mara mā! Ko te ataahua hoki o tēnei kete rōreka! Nau mai e Hine!
Wow. Sounds so good in Te Reo Māori.
Lorde te amo , por ti me baño 😭☝🏻
Nos bañamos 🤝🏻
This is everything!! I'm very proud of Lorde
so intense and sensitive…so beautiful 💚💜
I am not a Lorde Fan, just got here after I read that she came out with some songs in Maori - and I like this A LOT. I don't understand a word but it sounds beautiful.
She’s so different…. I really love her 😭😭😭
This is just sublime
She should release all her songs in maori ,such an amazing song
My heart is full ❤️
I never in a million years thought lorde would be bringing the banging te reo tunes for this Summer/Christmas... good on you gf. Keep us guessing! X
Ataahua... full cycle of life with all due respect to He Tangata He Tangata (the people - the people) and environmental aspects 💖✨🌅
this sound soooo beautiful omg
the more i listen the more i want the whole album in maori **sobs** but shes already feeding us so much **sobs**
Awesome bro feel it. :)
I love hearing Marlon Williams coming in on the end of the track there, a perfect balance
I'm definitely buying this music!
This perfect
LORDE PLEASE PUT "HOLD NO GRUDGE" ON SPOTIFY!
This is so powerful in so many ways. I wish my own country (Brazil) had protected its native languages.
Oof same, I'm from Argentina and I have been doing a lot of research on the Mapuche (Mapudungun) language and it's maddening how little information there is, most of it it's Chile's tries to recover some of it, but here? There's almost no communities left, most got completely integrated into our (already quite mixed) culture and left behind such important parts of our own communal history :c
And I guess the same happens to you all, did you know that the classic "pão de queijo" it's actually called "Chipa" and from the Guaraní people? It's one of the reasons Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil share the food
@@Kirayni hermana/o de patria 💛✨
This is absolutely stunning wow
the ending got me. soo good
Ficou tão lindo a sonoridade com a língua Maori! Mds Lorde! 😭💓✨🌻💛
