when 1 in 10 people is gay, I always count who would be gay like in a room with 15 people there HAS to be a gay person. Now I realise that I'm the gay person
The thing is, it's people like you two that make us feel comfortable with ourselves! You're the reason that so many people are out in High School! I actually got outed by a girl who was supposed to like me a week and a half ago and it would be 100000x's worse if I hadn't been watching UA-camrs like you!
I think that in these last few years as LGBTQ+ awareness has risen, tolerance has as well. In my experience, other teenagers are pretty accepting. Of course, there are exceptions. There are still homophobic, transphobic ect people out there, but it really is a lot better now.
***** Yes, I would say somewhere around there. Although, I don't really know how things were before that. I was hardly aware of the LGBTQ+ community before that point, but it might have been because I was a lot younger.
+The Great Wise Observer I disagree with +Cam Mitch. not trying to start anything AT ALL, no insults or cursing. I came out 1 month after I started high school as a freshman back in 1998. and I didn't live in a city, I grew up in a rural/suburby area in south jersey. in fact, I was one of the only kids in our school who grew up on a farm with my mom and grandparents (72 acre working farm-no animals but we grew corn and soy beans. I learned how to drive on a tractor at 12 lol). my grandfather was very racist and homophobic. but, surprisingly, when I came out I did it at septemberfest in my town while sitting in a circle in the grass by the rides with a dozen of my friends. none of them made fun of me or had a problem with it. they asked if it was a secret or if they could tell people. I told them to go ahead and, of course, by the end of the week everyone in school knew. I was the 3rd person in my school to be publicly out. I got asked some questions from random people-and some realllllly dumb questions too lol, but I was never bullied at all. I was not 'popular' but I had lots of friends. never lost a single friend because of my sexuality-if anything, they thought it was different and cool to be friends with a gay chick haha. there weren't any people for me to really look up to or be friends with who were lgbtq. so I became that person. I was unashamedly out and proud and vocal about it. as time went by, girls and some guys would come to me and tell me they were gay. I'd support them and help them come out when ready. I started writing down and numbering all the people who came out after me in high school. by the time I graduated there were 26 people on my list. about 2/3 of them were publicly out. there were about 700 people in my high school. no one was bullied. ellen already came out in her show, along with Melissa ethridge. ani difranco was singing about relationships with women and being a feminist, tegan and sara had just put out their first cd, and kids back then were already starting to see that gay people were being normalized and just regular people like everyone else. I don't think that it was around 2013 that kids in US schools and colleges started being more tolerant of gay people. I would say around 2003. the only thing that most kids have become more tolerant about in the lgbtq community in 2013 would be transgender people. and I think that's still happening. now that we have orange is the new black with Laverne cox, Caitlyn jenner, I am jazz with jazz Jennings, and genderfluid ruby rose from oitnb who is so effing hot, trans people are being put more in the spotlight and people are learning that they are wonderful people who have gone through a lot to be who they are. most people believe in gay marriage. sure, we are still bullied more than most kids but that is dwindling. it's transgendered people who really need our support the most now.
***** I'm 30 now... ugh... lol. born in '85. and my experiences in the 90's in school were not all rough and tumble. it was really easy for me and all of my friends. you know... I think overweight girls got made fun of more than I or other lgbtq kids were. which really says something about America and despite having a high rate of obesity, we still treat overweight or obese people like shit. my high school was more 'freaks and geeks' than 'mean girls.' haha she doesn't even go here!
I mean i go to an All girls boarding school in the middle of upstate new york so when i say everyone is gay... everyone is gay. The awkwardness when you have to come out as straight is amazing.
Jodie Armstrong A lot do. I dont know if theyre just attention seekers or it comes with the territory of being gay but most lesbians i know basically have an "Im gay" sign on them at all times... XD
I'm out in my catholic high school and it is terrifying. I have a pan and gender-fluid friend though. I wish we could have a gsa, but you know, the whole burn in hell thing.
+hayhayfidolize i was outed in 7th grade and they found out. it was horrible. i would be disowned if they knew i was out in school or if they knew I did not identify as cis-gender.
My school's pretty alternative, smack dab in the middle of a very liberal town. So, I kid you not, about 25-30% of the kids are out as LGBTQIA..., it's fantastic! Coming from that environment it's shocking to hear how ostracizing coming out is in other schools/places, and I really wish every place was as accepting as my little bubble.
... Tbh that sounds creepy asf. Like, or u never knew her and ur still a little kid in the emo phase. Or u have met her and are now in the idk how old. And u still listen to bvb and have a childish name om yt...
+Cherryl Clifford I don't even listen to them anymore, I just don't feel like changing the picture. My username is from like two (maybe three) years ago when I made this account and once again, I'm too lazy to change it 😂
+Kase Kranker I see. That's nice. Thanks for sharing. Hahaha, when I found out I couldn't believe she started working there! (I wonder if it requires a college degree?) It's so nice to see ElloSteph in buzzfeed videos. :D
i came out a while after i started watching you i was 8th grade at the time. now im one of the leaders in my schools pride alliance and ive been slowly coming out to family. my ex girlfriend was the main reason i started watching you and realized i was pan, thankyou so much for all youve done to impact my life. i know im just some weird 10th grader commenting her life story but youve inspired me to do so much. hell my pride alliance is sponsoring my schools first talent show this year cause i started asking around. thankyou so much for everything
When I came out as trans I suddenly had all these memories about being trans from random points in my life come back to me. Some were from childhood. Some were from high school. Its crazy how that works. I always tried to block it out every time it happened. Not last year though. Thank God!
Ashley Williams How does that work? No offense but if i were to think im a dog I wouldnt have momments where i am a dog... Please explain im genuinely interested.
it depends on the area that is LGBQT friendly & not a douchebag, along with if there even is local resources, but finding an online community is definitely very helpful.
I need more of you two I feel like you just met your long lost sister or something I need to know more oh ma gawd like I was like no way when you only said you went to school together BUT THE FACT YOU USED TO HANG OUT AND WAS WITH EACH OTHER WHEN YOU MADE THE BEAUTIFUL DISCOVERY OF WHO YOU ARE NOW!!! With her I'm I'm just this is amazing and can not be ignored 😂😂😂
love you so much Steph you are such an inspiration to me to keep on going through rough times and I make sure I never give up thank so so much steph with out you I would be very unhappy and maybe not even alive love you so so much
this blows my mind and makes me really happy! you think it's crazy that kids are out in high school? at my middle school there's a gsa, multiple out kids, same sex relationships (and trust me no relationships at this school are "middle school relationships", it's almost terrifying how much older than we are everyone acts), the art room has rainbow flags, my social studies teacher has a stand up against homophobia poster in classroom and *thank goodness* i've never seen or heard of anyone getting bullied for their sexual orientation/gender identity.
I was outed in middle school and it was absolutely awful but then once i got into highschool the year after it was bliss. My sister and her friends their welcomed me with open arms and that's what made me comfortable to be out in high school. There is such a wide variety of lgbtqia* youth in my small town in ct it's absolutely insane. I just love how proud everyone is to be themselves especially in high school.
Tzippy, super late comment but are you out to your parents? I'm not the daughter of a rabbi, but I was raised in a religious Jewish modern orthodox home and I feel I could never come out to my parents.
you are bae and are basically the only youtuber i watch i would probably die if i ever got the chance to meet you you don't understand how much I admire you ily ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The only thing that could have made this better was if Stevie suddenly jumped out and started spitting straight fire and Gaby and Steph just hit that shit on point.
Hahaha I loved this!!! Being a posnack student I can totally relate to this 😂 I was in 6th grade during your Senior year, and I remember looking up to you (not knowing you were gay, and not knowing that I was also gay,) thinking, "Wow, what are these vibes I'm getting from her?!" My gaydar was totally being programmed and 12 year old me didn't know what the hell it was!
Haha that's so random and awesome. I was the out kid in high school started the GSA in my school it really helps to know you are not alone. By being out you are helping others even if they are too afraid to come out it helps. I will run into people from high school who are out now but weren't then and they thank for coming out in school, I have even had someone tell me that my strength was the reason they didn't give up. GSA is the greatest thing that happened to me tbh lol. im a freshmen who moved to a new district over this past summer and as soon as i started attending the meetings i new that was it. two weeks later i came out as bi and its great!
at my schoop being gay isnt really a big deal at all. you tell people and there like "oh i thought you were gonna say something really bad" 😂😂😂 this video makes me so happy
I never thought of coming out to be a scary thing (at school, not church and home) until I came out in ninth grade. I was already made fun of for being gay in 7th and 8th grade when I wasn't out so I figured what the hell. When I did, this girl harassed me and asked me vulgar questions all the time. I came out in middle School I was so nervous and so I just told my closest friends well three of them were bi and one was pan so it was kinda awesome but I remember bieng so frightened and that's when my mom started hinting at me bieng a lesbian so that was very scary for me and still is I'm going to be in my second year of high school and I'm stoked! Wow, people like you two are my idols. Highschool is such a b*#$% and I can't wait to get through it then leave this god damn town. You guys make me imagine myself with the friends I have now.
I remember having to wear uniforms and bringing a change of clothes. Out-of-uniform passes were highly sought after. I think the going rate was $20 on the black market. We used to get gold slips for doing something good. It'd have your name, grade, date, and teacher that that gave it to you on it. Then you'd put it in this big box, and at the end of the week a bunch of names would be pulled to claim a prize. Pretty much every little gift package had an out-of-uniform pass in it. Not to brag, but I had quite a few days where I didn't have to wear a uniform.
when 1 in 10 people is gay, I always count who would be gay like in a room with 15 people there HAS to be a gay person. Now I realise that I'm the gay person
True!
Samee :'D
Saaammmmeeee😂❤️🦄
same 😂
+Red Unicorn I do the same exact thing!
The thing is, it's people like you two that make us feel comfortable with ourselves! You're the reason that so many people are out in High School! LifeWithDina I actually think that what you just said shows how much it really varies between different places. That's awesome!

Same we should have like rainbows on our head x
Jodie Armstrong A lot do. I dont know if theyre just attention seekers or it comes with the territory of being gay but most lesbians i know basically have an "Im gay" sign on them at all times... XD
Mind = blown.
What a small world!??! I hope you guys do more collabs
I'm out in my catholic high school and it is terrifying. I have a pan and gender-fluid friend though. I wish we could have a gsa, but you know, the whole burn in hell thing.
*clapping* wow I'm proud of you o.O
I'm at a Protestant school and so being gay or whatever isn't such of a big deal, but Catholic o.O
wow I wouldn't be brave enough to be out in a Catholic school.
+hayhayfidolize i was outed in 7th grade and they found out. it was horrible. i would be disowned if they knew i was out in school or if they knew I did not identify as cis-gender.
i got the closest i can to a gsa: a ukulele club with all LGBTQ members. it's the best thing in my life.
If it's a public school then by law you can create a GSA if you want to.
LIKE MY TWO FAVORITE PEOPLE IN ONE VIDEO THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY
Steph and Gabby met on high school mind blown

Ello, it's me. I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet.
+イジーイジー they say time supposed to heal

Guys she was in a BuzzfeedVideo yesterday with her boyfriend.

Ashley Williams How does that work? No offense but if i were to think im a dog I wouldnt have momments where i am a dog... Please explain im genuinely interested.
MY TWO FAVORITES
You have no idea how long I've wanted you to make a video like this.

it depends on the area that is LGBQT friendly & not a douchebag, along with if there even is local resources, but finding an online community is definitely very helpful.

you think it's crazy that kids are out in high school?
at my middle school there's a gsa, multiple out kids, same sex relationships (and trust me no relationships at this school are "middle school relationships", it's almost terrifying how much older than we are everyone acts), the art room has rainbow flags, my social studies teacher has a stand up against homophobia poster in classroom and *thank goodness* i've never seen or heard of anyone getting bullied for their sexual orientation/gender identity.
are steph and madison still together????
Yeah. They were both posting yesterday on Twitter about spending Halloween together
I'm asking the same question!
+ItsChelsea ! Yeah they are. They post stuff on Twatter.
+Awkward Outcast Twatter :') I know what you meant, it's just so funny xD
I think they are just busy, so they haven't had the time to do YouNows and ElloLove videos
I love this video also love you Steph your videos make me so happy
That was Adorable !!! Love Gaby on Buzzfeed and she seems so relaxed here.
My favourite two people love them both xxxx very funny creative and beautiful
I was outed in middle school and it was absolutely awful but then once i got into highschool the year after it was bliss. Sawgrass Mills Mall. Where its a different country from the moment you step in, and everyone who grew up in the area has worked there before.
More videos of you two please!!
I was so deep in the closet in high school. It baffles me to think back on all the kids who were out and part of the GSA and stuff. I had thought I might be gay but I kept shoving it into the back of my mind and I was too ashamed. I hope it's different for kids now than it was when I started high school.
In Allison's voice " I am pretty sure they went for taco after that"
I think my favourite line was "all the rabbi's kids were terrible."
This is so cool! I wish I could like this a million thousand times!
That was so great to watch 😂
