  • Venting a clothes dryer up and through the roof has been a popular practice in the South for some time as most homes are on a concrete slab and the laundry room has been located within the interior of the floorplan. Hot air rises, so no additional forces are needed to vent up versus out or down. Building codes control the length of run and the number of elbows but at present do not govern the specifications of wall and roof terminations; likewise, there are numerous designs and minimal design features that speak to the efficiency of the vent design.
This video provides some compelling results with an actual dryer blower unit while testing four roof terminations. The video is an educational presentation that applies to any home owner with a clothes dryer, and is worth the “watch”.

Great video, our company has installed hundreds of these dryer roof vents. They definitely are worth the money and are extremely durable. I have never seen one of these clog. The design of these have actually gotten better than the ones in this video. Great product keep up the good work.

It shouldn’t be on the roof it should be on the side of the house

I agree. Mine originally vented through the roof but previous owners had a leak and removed all the roof vents replacing them with a ridge vent and had the dryer venting into the attic. When I bought it I had to install an eve vent and duct the exhaust to it because the washer and dryer sit in the middle of the house for some reason and it's too costly to move them closer to the wall and vent it that way. Bad design all around.
