    I'm really impressed with your work, Luke. The way you introduce the product, describe the key features, and demonstrate their use clearly shows you put a lot of thought and effort into this review.--much appreciated. I posted some links in the eDRUMin forum.

Are you considering a GOFUNDME campaign so you can cope with the demand and keep in touch with potential buyers? This thing you've created: GAMECHANGING

    Great review. I own an edrumin 10 and I love it. Yes, you do need some knowledge VSTs, Midi, and how drum brains work but, as the author says, this is all learnable stuff. I use it with Steven Slate Drums and kit composed of Alesis and Roland drum triggers, and Aegean low volume cymbals. It's a joy to play because the edrumin works so well. It won't absolutely eliminate absolutely all your triggering problems since some of that is due to the triggers themselves, but it does an amazing job.

    After seeing this video, I got the eDRUMin 4 and had a terrible experience with it. It was triggering randomly constantly basically all the time, even when it was just sitting there. The only way I could get it to stop was by setting the threshold so high that you had to slam every drum to get a reaction. I was going to make a video on it, but it was so absolutely horrible I didn't want to make a video just tearing it apart. I found the software to be completely wonky, not intuitive at all, and the overall experience to be a clunky, poorly functioning device. I could have just gotten a bad unit, but I quickly returned it. If anything these devices seem to be very inconsistent.

      Woah, that's really weird. I've genuinely never had that issue or seen anyone else mention it before. Did you try reaching out to Rob to see if he could help? I found he's responsive and gives great advice for troubleshooting. It definitely sounds like something was up with it though as I only get that kind of triggering when I drop the threshold below the noise floor (usually down to like 0.7, which is pretty low). Maybe for some reason there was some additional noise interference.

      @@TheeDrumWorkshop yeah, I talked to him, he suggested doing an update which I did, but it didn't help at all. I also was not impressed with the build quality of it at all. Seemed like a toy to me.

    I'm glad these products exist. I've been using an Alesis Command module, but only to trigger samples in Bitwig. It's served its purpose, but found it limiting, now that I'm I building a hybrid kit. So now I finally ordered a MegaDrum, a similar product that's been out for quite a while, but even more niche than the eDRUMin or the DDTI. Definitely looking forward to having 27 dual-zone inputs instead of 5.

      Yes. You might be better off connecting more than just hihats to the edrumin and then midi-ing into the strike module. Say for example, the snare.

      Can you use the edrumin software without the edrumin hardware?

    • @TheeDrumWorkshop
      @TheeDrumWorkshop  3 роки тому +2

      No, you need the device connected to use the software. It won't work without the device as it's just controlling the functions of the hardware. They do make another piece of software called DSP Trigger that you can use with an audio interface instead of the eDRUMin. Not quite as fully-featured as the eDRUMin software, I don't think, and if you want to hook up stereo triggers you might need to use 2 inputs with a splitter from the drum, but might be worth checking out as an alternative.

      I'm crossing my fingers 8 months after your note that the 10 will be back one day. I'd gone halfway through the video and my mind was made up. Clicked over to the Audiofront site ready to break my budget and finally replace my old Yamaha DTXtreme IIS module (I've converted the IIS rubber pads to mesh, btw, with fairly good results), only to find it unavailable. Hunted around Ebay and elsewhere, too, but no luck. Thanks for the great work here--I appreciate your content and knowledge.

    Wow I just found out about this product today, thanks for the in-depth review, this looks amazing. I have a pretty cool frankenstein drumkit which started out as a super basic Hart Dynamics (RIP) kit that I've added pieces to over the years. But I'm still going through an old Alesis DM5 module into my PC to trigger various VSTs (mostly AD2 and NI kits). The DM5 works well enough just as a trigger module, but it's very limiting. This edrumin gear looks like exactly what I need to be able to expand further and exploit the additional features of my sample libraries that I don't really get to enjoy.

    18:43 @TheeDrumWorkshop It’s possible to do this inside Logic Pro using the MIDI Scripter function in the channel strip region. I use this to convert my cymbals incoming CC signal to convert to a regular MIDI note for a choking function.

    Great video Luke, I've heard about this unit online but this really outlines it. I'm currently using my td12 on an A to E kit with Steven Slate, using goedrum triggers, stealth, gear drum and ufo triggers. What I'm really keen on is getting more out of my hi hat settings. I have a diy/goedrum dual zone switch trigger. I have heard the best in the market is SD3 which seems to have all sorts of extra features to get the best response. Do you think this would help? Keep up the great work! Joe.

      Thanks! I should imagine that the extra hi-hat options with this could help playability but I didn't end up testing my Goedrum controller with it due to time constraints (and the stand I use it on isn't great either so it might not have been super accurate). So I can't really say 100% for sure, but I was impressed with the playability with the FD-7 over Roland modules

    Hi thank you for your video! I have a problem and I ask anyone for help if they have encountered a solution to the same problem I am having it has to do with using the DTX900 module by Yamaha. I don’t understand how to wire the head and the rim and successfully get dual triggering on my snare drum. How do I wire the rim and the head and plug it into my DTX900 and for the cross tick, the rim abd the snare head? I heard it’s piezo/switch not piezo/piezo. Is this tru? Is there anyway around this like using a drum splitter cable would that fix this problem??

    Everyone who plays electronic drum triggers never seem to have the cymbals loud enough in the online "we Tubish" mix to hear relative to the drums themselves...its curious to me because in the real recording world cymbals are the hardest to contain volume on. • @tecraven
    @tecraven Рік тому

    Not sure I'm convinced by this device. At $329 it seems very expensive given what it is, a basic box with pub and standard years old tech sockets on it. Can't have cost more than about $20 to make and manufacture in parts etc. Given you can buy a used Roland TD-12 for £175 (UK) and that has Midi out and you get the benefit of having a 'proper' drum module with all the built in sounds too, as well as everything this little box has to offer, I just can't see the point in buying this box. Also, going through this software and then into the drum software such as Addictive Drums II for example, seems like there could be issues as you are setting up a chain of two different software packages, one going into another. This device seems like a sort of 'middle-man' device where no middle-man is necessary, another pointless thing to through into the chain, at least that's how I see it given you can buy used 'proper' drum modules from Roland and others that have Midi out for less than half the price. Also, if you don't own an audio interface a used on can be picked up for £25 too so going straight into your computer via Midi is not an issue and this is only if the used drum module you buy does not have a modern piece of software that you can get for your latest OS. Or am I missing something here?

    • @DadsYouTubeChannel330
      @DadsYouTubeChannel330 6 місяців тому

      You're paying for the software, not so much the hardware. Although I can imagine they cost £50-75 to manufactur, given less economy of scale.

  • @MR-vg7yn
    @MR-vg7yn 2 роки тому +2

    Damn it... this looks perfect for me: I already only use SD3, so I have very little use for most of the features of an actual drum module. Since I'm currently looking to swap out my TD-11, primarily to get positional sensing support and I really wouldn't mind fiddling around with the trigger settings to get them right, this video made me pretty happy.
    Then I was made very sad when checking out their page: The 10 input version is out of stock and in the forums, the manufacturer has said he's waiting for parts, but isn't expecting to get them until October _2023_
    Quite the downer for me, as this would be pretty much perfect for me and it would be considerably cheaper than getting a new module.

    My biggest issue with the ROland TD-17 by far is the hihat pedal movements after hits. I guess my style has lots of movements after the hit, which I cannot figure out how to control with the td-17. I mean, you can smash the hat closed and if you instantly lift, an acoustic hat opens up and you get lots of volume, but the roland wont give you anything but the closed sound. That is a deal breaker for me and I cannot find the setting that could fix that.

    • @TheeDrumWorkshop
      @TheeDrumWorkshop  7 днів тому

      Unfortunately this is a sound engine limitation of the TD-17 module. Pedal information affecting hits before it is sometimes referred to as "transmuting" in online discussions if you want to read up on it. The Roland TD-50(X) and TD-27 can do it, but the 17 can't for whatever reason. The open sound after hitting the pad is still a bit quieter on those modules, but it's far more "realistic" and overall more forgiving in terms of response.
      Some VSTs can do it too and you'll still be able to get that from your TD-17 with those VSTs because it's all about how the software interprets the data and responds to it rather than it being a limitation of the trigger technology itself. So Roland could have included this in the 17 if they wanted to.

      No, it wouldn't. There is no way to trigger sounds that aren't already assigned to a pad zone on the SPD-SX, so there are no "extra" sounds to trigger. All inputs can already be split with simple Y cables so you can have a pad per sound without the need for extra hardware.

    Why are all trigger to MIDI interfaces seemingly wiped off the face of the earth? Not a single vendor has these or ddrum DDTI’s in stock and none of them know when they’ll get them. Is hybrid drumming a dead market?

    • @TheeDrumWorkshop
      @TheeDrumWorkshop  2 роки тому

      With the eDRUMin, I can only imagine it's a parts shortage coupled with the fact that it's a single person making them. The few available parts are probably being snapped up by larger companies. That's somewhat speculation on my part but I know Rob was having issues getting parts earlier in the year and generally there's been a shortage industry-wide.
      As for the ddrum DDTI, I don't really know. They're pretty old at this point (many people would suggest outdated in terms of performance too, from what I've read) so they might have come to the end of their run. But if not, again ddrum are a reasonably small company compared to others in the market, so there's a chance they've also been hit by shortages.

      I can't really tell you what to buy, but it looks like it's going to be quite some time before the eDRUMin 10 is back in stock (I think late 2023 is the speculated timeframe). If you really want an eDRUMin, you can link together multiple eDRUMin 4 units until you have enough inputs - last I checked they were still in stock.
      If you don't want to do that and want to get going quickly, or want something with built in sounds, then the Mimic is a great module, budget permitting.

  • @TomWatkeys
    @TomWatkeys Рік тому

    I think an oversight in terms of the customer here is the man with the travelling kit(s)
    In my band for instance, the drummer either plays an SPD-SX, or plays a TD-20 weird hybrid kit. This would allow you to easily move your module around - as you're only ever connecting power and MIDI cable to it. So he could have this setup on the main kit, and bring only the module for SPD gigs - this ensures you have EXACTLY the same sounds, no matter the show

      I've not used the TMC-6 myself so can't really comment. If it helps, the software doesn't need to be running once you've got your triggers set up as it has a standalone mode - it's only for configuration that it's necessary. I understand that a lot of people prefer being able to adjust parameters with physical dials etc (I'm usually one of those people), but functionally it's pretty much the same as using a sound-less module otherwise.

    I purchased the Edrumin10 to expand by Mimic Pro which is maxed out of ports. How do I hook it up without a computer and add say an extra cymbal or two? Can someone provide a basic instruction for this. Which cords do I use and where to plug them in precisely? Thanks, I am pretty new at this.

    Thankyou so much for this review. I am using an old Roland TD 7 (prehistoric I know lol).... I was looking to hook up some PD 85/PDX100 and Cy 5/8 pads to it. Unfortunately due to the age of the head unit, I wasn't getting dual zone triggering on the PD85s and the PDX100. Somebody has just told me about this unit, which I'm looking to purchase now. Hopefully this will give me the ability to use those pads with the TD7 and get rim shots! Your review has helped out heaps! Thanks so much and just to let you know I've also subscribed and liked :-)
    One question - do you know if the 10 & 4 are essentially the same minus the number of inputs?

    I have the eDRUMin 10. There's NOTHING like it for "leveling up" (taking it to the next level) triggering response as Rob said. I use it to run SD3, but I also simply then run a 5-din MIDI cable from the eDRUMin to a Mimic Pro. The software and triggering control of the eDRUMin is better than the built-in triggering features and control within the Mimic, in my opinion. I actually get better triggering customization for my needs, and additional control, out of this setup. That says a LOT, because the Mimic is already very good! Further, use of a single MIDI cable with my home kit, allows me to quickly grab the Mimic and load up my gigging kit (a DIY beater kit) and off I go, while leaving my cables and everything set up in the studio. So when I get home, I only have to plug in the Mimic's power and MIDI cables and I'm running again. Love it!

    • @TheeDrumWorkshop
      @TheeDrumWorkshop  3 роки тому +2

      Sounds like you've got an awesome setup going there! I'm definitely going to end up with one of these of my own down the line, there's just so many features that I think are useful. Using it alongside modules is certainly one of the main ones for me. I usually have everything hooked up to my TD-50 with MIDI out from there but could see this being a useful "module hub" for development, especially for the pad compatibility.

    • @482jpsquared
      @482jpsquared 3 роки тому

      @@TheeDrumWorkshop "Module hub" is a great way to describe it. The only thing that might make it better would be a 12-16 input version. However, since it can perform as a MIDI host, it's easy to connect two together or multiple combinations of a 4 and/or a 10. It's too bad you couldn't get the ATV ride to work with three zones and one cable with bell sense. I have it working incredibly well - MUCH better than any analog Roland ride I've ever played.

    • @progression_decibel
      @progression_decibel 3 роки тому

      John I think you just convinced me of a eDRUMin 10 for the SAME exact purpose. I've been recently contemplating a second module for my beater kit (which kind of funny, is high end Roland pads!) and at home my full-on Mimic Pro hooked up to my ePRO kit and ATV cymbals I never really want to tear down due to sheer number of cables and it's setup perfectly. I agree as well - the Mimic offers some pretty advanced trigger control but the eDRUMin kicks it up a notch! Hopefully it's back in stock soon!

    I just got this and I'm really disappointed by one thing: There are no options for dual piezo cymbal inputs, only piezo + switch! So if you use Magnatrack cymbal triggers for instance, you have to select "mesh centered piezo" or some other 'drum' input in order to use two piezo inputs on a cymbal, and I haven't gotten it to work well yet. Really sucks as this could have been a great solution for total DIY.

It's been affecting large companies too, but I would imagine they have the buying power to get what little is currently available. If I'm wrong, fair enough. I just don't think it's from lack of trying and their after sales support has been nothing but top notch in my experience (I find your conclusion from one point to another a bit odd, there).

    Great vid, a couple of questions:
    1) So you can hook up multiple edrumin units with each other for kit expansion through either the USB host or MIDI in ports, right?
    2) When connecting digital pads through a USB host device, does this allow to circumvent the limitation of the TD27 module where the cable snake inputs become disabled when digital pads are connected to the module? Can you use the edrumin to trigger stuff in the module while having both digital pads connected to edrumin through the host AND the ride/snare snake cables connected on the module? Sorry for the messy question but basically i want a way to cheat the module into keeping both the digital and analog snare/ride inputs enabled while triggering the sounds inside the module and not that of a VST.

      I don't know of anything else that fills the same role really, no. Megadrum used to be a really popular option for this years ago but I believe that it's nowhere near as user friendly. There are also some options like a second hand Roland TMC-6 or there's an Alesis one that some people really liked, but they're a lot older and probably pretty outdated nowadays.
      The eDRUMin's big strengths are in the software with its ease of use and features. It's a shame to hear about the shortages affecting the eDRUMin as it deserves every success.

    • @TheeDrumWorkshop
      @TheeDrumWorkshop  2 роки тому

      The eDRUMin 4 doesn't have a USB Host port and the TD-17 has no MIDI in port so you can't use them together, from what I remember. Even with an eDRUMin 10 though, you can't "expand" a TD-17 if you're using all of the pad inputs/zones because there is no way to trigger sounds that aren't assigned to a pad zone. You can use the 10 to trigger every available zone over MIDI if you want, but it's a pretty limited use case.
