  • Fathom blue with white vinyl roof and white stripes 1970 Chevelle SS454 LS6 M22 3.31 Posi Cowl Induction. Assembled at the Kansas City, Missouri assembly plant the 2nd week of January 1970. The car still retains a partial copy of the buildsheet which was still hog ringed into the back seat similar to other KC assembled 1970 Chevelles. The original rear CRV axle cast dated L 12 9 and built 1223B1 is still present. The original engine and trans are no longer with the car.

Back in 1977 I bought a 1970 SS Chevelle 396 (402) for $800 with 70,000 original miles. It was red with white vinal top, white interior, and white skunk stripes. I took the 396/402 out of it, and got an early 70's large oval port 454 for it out of a 1-ton truck in the junk yard. I built that oval port 454 up to do 11.90's in the quarter mile.

I towed this car home for my brother from Naselle Washington in spring of 1981. I removed the build sheet from under the left rear interior trim panel. I SWEAR that build sheet said it was a 4:10 posi car. We had a little argument about this a few months ago. I can't prove it because that build sheet got inadvertently thrown away. You'd laugh if you knew how many kittens were born in this car! Also, I don't think it's been driven since about '77 or '78 because that's about when my brother first saw it for sale. Could that be the original mileage? I believe, when I picked it up, the seller said he bought it in Astoria.

@@raymondboczek When I picked it up for my brother, it had a blown up 327 and a M21. The current owner has called the owner previous to my brother. He thought it was a 396 car! When I picked up, the guy said, "somebody put 454 signs on it but, it was only a 396 so, I put the "right" signs on". I saw the tach and just knew it had to be an LS6 car. My boss at the time told me it was just a 375 hp 396 car so, it was junk. A friend and coworker, Lawrence Elke (RIP, Lawrence), Told me where to look for the build sheet. Found it behind the left rear interior trim panel. LS6, M22 it said! We've talked to few of the old hot rodders from the Naselle area and when the LS6 car is mentioned they all say, "There's never been an LS6 car in Naselle". Little did they know. Only a little ways from this car, my second cousin had a red w/ black stripes and interior LS5 car. Another friend bought it down in Portland and found a bunch of old registrations over the visor. Some were from my second cousin! That car got sold several times and a drug dealer in California was having it restored when he got busted. Car ended up in Washougal,WA. and got on the cover of Super Chevy magazine.

I had a friend of mine in 1977 78 seniors in high school had a 70 beautiful car it was orange with white stripes and white interior. It was a automatic car. Between his car and my 67 400 4 speed Firebird which I still own today we were awesome. When he graduated out of school he join the military I begged him not to sell the car to keep it put it in storage he did anyway a week later the guy that bought the car totaled it. Daniel was a good guy May of 2011 he was laid to rest also in the same day and the same Funeral Home my dad was laid to rest. Daniel died too young but every time I see a 70 or get in my 67 I think of him.

Think I'd rather have a bare roof on that car though - white vinyl tops can make a car look really clean, but sometimes they're just too much. Lemans or one of the lighter blues would work better for me, but I'd rather have the Fathom Blue lower and upper.

They were never red. Always white

The SS was white but the 454 call-out was red IIRC.

@@patrickglennnicholsmusclec1674 I guess I should've been more specific when asking my question. At 4:45 in the video, the emblem on the right fender clearly shows the 454 call out and the numbers are red in the center. That's what I was asking about. Sorry for any confusion.

@@MikeBrown-ii3pt Yes, The 454 all had red in the emblems and yes all SS had white. Great question...

It's not a vin number. It's just a vin. The n stands for number.
