Ok Kristi is not just the upgraded American Wife she is the Diamond version of the upgraded American Wife. Thus, the reason that Sean will need the cold showers. Sorry Kristi, you guys just set that one up way too well. I think those hooks by the picnic table are for Coleman lanterns which had a much more romantic glow than the harsh bright white light of the modern LED "lanterns". Keep the good stuff coming guys.
Good video. Something to consider: My brother retired after 30 years as a Sheriff's deputy in Wyoming. He then worked for 5 years as a Wyoming State Park Law Enforcement Ranger. He said he came across more scum and low-lifes in those 5 years than he did the whole 30 years of being a deputy. Therefore, don't let your guard down when enjoying the beauty of the great outdoors in those state parks!
I've found it extremely difficult to find a vacancy at Oak Mtn. But it is a beautiful park. Played golf there many times. I also saw a huge rattler crossing a road near the dam. Maybe the same one, or his brother 🙂 Anyway, got my site finally booked for next April.
Great to see you making a camping video! We love state parks and there are some real gems around the country. Of course, we live in Florida where the state parks are easy to find. Just follow the first guy you see with Michigan tags.
We also have found hidden gems in many state parks. We will definately check out Oak Mountain on our next journey through Alabama. Thanks for the coverage.
When we’re traveling state parks are generally our first choice for several reasons that you mentioned. They generally have one or more hook ups, lower nightly rates and can be easier to book than national parks. State parks are often closer to towns and amenities than national parks and easier to access when traveling. Welcome back, and safe travels!
Very nice! We camped at Oak Mountain several years ago on a trip back to TN from the beach. This is much improved from what we saw then. This would entice us to spend a few days there.
Spending 3 night next week on a bluffside site at San Elijo, a CA state park with beautiful views of Pacific ocean. And walking distance to street tacos. Yup- gets sketchy at night so lock up your gen, bikes and valuables
What a park! Living in California, national and state parks are really hard to get reservations. The good news I’m discovering really nice county parks. They don’t usually have hookups but I’m set up for that. About that standard issue wife, looks like she got some mechanical genes from her father and is a keeper. Thanks for a great video.
OMG! 09:15 (at a state park, you can go out and make a video without getting sent to jail) I nearly fell out of my chair! You already bring it with the work you do, but that comment hit home.
We spend time snow birding in the south ,the only Alabama State Park we have stayed at is Gulf Shores. We have stayed at a few COES in Alabama, Gunter Hill and Deerlick Creek. Yes about equestrian campsites, they often are overlooked. In Florida this year we had trouble finding a campground and found an equestrian one with openings. I told them I had a Pinto, so is it okay to stay? They said I didn't need to have a horse to stay. A little bit out of the way but less that $20 a night water, electric, and bathrooms with showers!
Just last month we stayed at Meaher State Park in Spanish Fort, just south of Mobile. It is a great park. Good, level sites that are not so close together. Full hook-ups with showers and a great laundry at reasonable prices. The staff was great, the gate to the park closed at 6pm and you needed the gate code to come in. I was very impressed with such good surroundings in a state park. We would stay here again.
State parks are some of the best bargains around as well. We’re in Florida and have stayed at several, and plan on staying at more in the future. We’re heading to Canada and Maine for our summer trip…..leaving the Florida heat for a while!!! Safe travels LOLOHO!!!
We were just there! We stopped by for one night on the way home from a state park in Florida. We live in Alabama also. Depending on when you were there, we might have been there at the same time! I think it was overnight the 22nd of June. We didn't have time to go on all the hikes there but a frequent traveler that we spoke with said they have some great hiking. We were going to go back and film a video on our next trip.
You KNOW I love this one! What an important message to put out there about the gyms we have access to in our great state! The addition of your signature humor was perfectly executed. Thank you for highlighting the great improvements made to our local state park! Great work!
We have thought about it. Really as long as our water heater keeps working. I have no problems with it whatsoever, but it is now 21 years old! Please excuse me while I go knock on some wood
@@LongLongHoneymoon well when you start noticing your showers getting cold I’m sure you’re not gonna like it , you might want to go get it fixed or you’re gonna hear about it from your wife . lol
I feel ya on the check out time!!! Same at our favorite state park. Sometimes I even make reservation for that night so we can have a late check out.Lol😂
Excellent look at what is clearly a beautiful state park. While we really enjoy National Parks, we also spend a lot of time in State and Provincial Parks. Some great ones all across this continent. Very happy to see you guys on the road again. As always, very safe travels....
Looks like a great place. I actually like the 11 am checkout. Encourages myself to get up and out and headed to the next adventure or home and allows those just starting theirs to get checked in and settled to start their fun stay.
Love your parks. Just spent some time in lake Eufala state park in OK and really thought highly of it. 🇨🇦. Their check in and check out time on the web is...5:00 p.m.!
Great video! State Parks and ACOE are our favorite campgrounds to stay at. We’ve not stayed at Oak Mountain but hope to this year. We stayed at Cheaha State Park earlier this year and it was hard to believe it was in Alabama. The views were absolutely beautiful, and we heard they are planning to extend the Appalachian trail to Cheaha.
Sure enough, we did drive right by it just a few weeks ago. We were making a beeline for home at the time, but we’ll certainly remember it for the future. Glad this video was produced without the threat of jail time. 😉
What an awesome state park ! Thanks so much for doing an in-depth video on it. We have nothing even remotely close to that in NM. I'm from CT and we had nothing of that caliber there either. Lucky you !
Great video! We have some very nice small State Parks in Ohio that are run by the watershed departmet. They have nice cement pads and are very clean, a bit expensive and like this park not much privacy BUT they are a great place to stay at the start of season to shakedown and prep for the season, they are also nice to use the last weekend of the season to clean out and winterize (Northeast Ohio). Maybe we will see you on the road this summer. We are heading to Gros Ventre Camp, Idaho/Stanley and Glacier in August. Safe Travels!.
You guys rock. Easily my favorite RV channel, along with RVing makes Cents. I love your ironic humor. I live next door in GA, and never considered camping in Alabama. I love COE and state parks, and I will for sure visit here in the future! GA needs to step up our game, there aren't any beaches on our lakes that allow pups. This park is a freaking resort!
This is a nice format for some new videos. I live in Ohio and our planners could definitely models some upgrades to our state parks ! Oak mountain is a gem!
The improvements to the campground are most welcome. Honestly a couple of years ago the facilities were quite dated (1960s-ish) but now they are fantastic.
Beautiful state park! Great moves along the mountain biking trail! I wouldn’t suggest taking your E-bikes on it. Looking forward to having your travel videos begin. Continued safe travels to you both!
I'm so glad you made this video! It's a beautiful park, but for those of us that don't have onboard bathroom facilities their bathrooms were really, really bad. They've made great strides in their renovations, so I'll definitely camp there again.
Honestly, there was a weird audio glitch about 17 minutes into the video when I mentioned the mountain biking trails! I was very frustrated when I saw that the glitch made it into the final uploaded video. So there is that part in the video when I show some mountain bikes, but there is only music in the background. My voice got lost in the mix. Oh well, we will keep that between us. 😂
Oak mountain had a lot of damage from a tornado a couple years ago. Lots of the trees in the campground were really blown all over. The community came together and lots of volunteers with chain saws responded. Nice!
Thanks, in this video at about the 17 minute mark the audio glitched when I was discussing the mountain biking. I guess that will be a secret between us! 😂
Excellent video on Oak Mountian State Park. Every August I go to Monte Sano State Park for the Huntsville Amateur Radio Ham Fest. The state has redone most of the sites to include sewer connections. Have you stayed there and what did you think about it? Thanks for all the great videos I enjoy all of them.
State parks are gems, and probably where we camp the most. We live in Arizona and enjoy Dead Horse Ranch and Kartchner Caverns mostly, but others are wonderful. New Mexico has so many wonderful state parks, as does Texas. Seems like National Parks have the excitement of being in a truly nationally-recognized special area but as such, there are limitations as to what you can do and getting in to reserve a campsite can be such a challenge. State parks (and county parks) are so much more relaxed and a great home base for traveling around that particular region. Both are different experiences, though, but I agree with your assessment. Oak Mountain looks wonderful!!!
Yes, a few years ago I was speaking with some friends while we were camping on some bureau of land management land out west. Our friends commented that they did not really feel comfortable camping in national parks due to the restrictions with regards to pets and going off-road and so forth. Of course the national parks have the benefit of so many beautiful natural areas and I certainly understand they need to preserve those areas. But the state parks have a lot of freedom going for them, and with freedom often comes fun. I think this particular state park is operated in a way that profoundly benefits the community because so many enjoyable activities are made available
Sean, I sure wish you had not made this one. We try to go twice a month because it is so close and we love the lack of crowds. Now I will not be able to get a spot. We have not been since they made the improvements, so I am excited to go stay in the A Loop. Safe travels
Love the upgrades. We camped at Oak Mt when we dropped our son off at Samford and it was a pretty underwhelming campground at that time but the park looked amazing. Do they still have the water covered road on the northern end of the park? My son did a lot of mountain biking during his years in BHAM. We have recently moved from GA to UT and we took our little piece of BHAM with us, our Storyteller Overland. Your videos make me miss our Airstream years but the van is in its element in UT. Great video as always.
Thank you, Gayle… did you know storyteller overland is based in BHM? The road in the park that have water over it has been built up so now it no longer floods over. I had a section in the video about mountain biking but due to a weird audio glitch, my voiceover got lost! So at the 17 minute mark there is a musical piece that was supposed to be some discussion of the mountain biking. I know it is great there. Anyway, thanks for your comment. Maybe we will see you in Utah later this year.
We would love to meet you all in person after all these years. We had our STO at the mothership for some tweaking last August on our way home from a 2 month trip. They gave us a tour. Super company with amazing customer service. We are on the road now and had a noise in our AC. They are sending out the part today, no charge and we are out of warranty. I’d love to see you all do a LOLOHO/STO video…just sayin😸
Hi lolho I’m in my 7th summer/fall camp trailer trip to so the national parks in my 16’ Bambi airstream. You two have been my guides and supports early on and throughout my journeys. This summer/fall I only have five more parks to visit to complete all in the lower 48. 🤠 I can’t thank you enuf for all you do and that you keep your airstream and repair it like me rather than getting newer model. I love my Bambi. Anyway looking to find what your advice is on trip planning apps I usually go like you adjusting and planning while traveling. But this time my cousin wants to meet me in Great Basin NV park. I need to figure out dates and book reservations before I leave Maine where I always start my journeys even though I m from Mass

WOW ....... Those "UPGRADES" are "off the wall", Sean .... You NEVER see that amount of $$$$ Put into ANY camping areas .... I will have to add it to my Fall trip down south .... "Thank You" for posting this one !!
I lived in Nashville for 49 years and I have camped in Alabama State Parks but I have never heard of this one and you were right. I probably have driven by it 1 million times and didn’t even know it was there. I am now a full-time RV traveler, so I will have to put this Park on my radar. The next time I pass through Alabama. Thanks for sharing. It looks like an incredible State Park.❤
Am a big fan of state parks campgrounds...Am especially a fan of COE campgrounds as they are more often than not around lakes or rivers....$10-$15 a nite for all the amenities (power, water, garbage, dump, showers) with the annual or lifetime America the Beautiful national park pass cant be beat....State parks $30-$45 range ...Both better options for our $$$ than overcrowded , overpriced RV parks...Looking forward to seeing what comes next from you folks ....State Park tours ???? Stay safe, be well...
Sean and Kristi and Seymour! I have not seen you for many moons; my Safari is hibernating across the driveway, and I am in the sea of changes. Having become a homesteader in a place that resembles a park, and landed 6 1/2 miles from a Bible believing church, Sunday is God's day, and I visit and witness my faith. I pray you are all saved, and if not, look up the Roman Highway. Get right God. It is a beautiful park. Thank you for the tour.
State parks are great, we have some wonderful ones here in MN that you'd really enjoy - it's nice and cool on the north shore of Lake Superior in summer... Sadly I've seen many state parks around the country that have been trashed, just like I've seen our beautiful national lands turning into. I say thank God for the National Park Service and what they do for us to protect our lands. We used to go on jeep trails throughout the western mountain states but have stopped now because they've become overrun by ATVs breaking the rules, laws, and generally failing to respect our lands. Camp sites full of trash now, etc... They are ruining it for everyone. What good person would disrespect our lands like this? The BLM/Forest Service/state parks need more help in dealing with these kinds of people. I'm very happy for the National Park Service. Could their rules be tweaked and improved a bit? Sure, but good on them.
@@LongLongHoneymoon Sure hope so, we enjoy going to state parks and we try to support local businesses in areas where there are state parks. We are tired of getting a reservation to go into a National Park, and shopping in National Park gift shops and restaurants owned by the federal government but contracted to Xterra or some other contractor that has had a strong hold on National Parks or National Forests Service Campgrounds.
Hi Sean and Kisty, funny niether one of my ex-wives would be helping with the hot water heater. Beautiful and helpful, Sean you are a lucky man. With not being able to film in national parks anymore I am now doing more state parks. The main problem with state parks is the weekenders. They have no camping etiquette, don't know or don't care. My generation the only way you would ever pee in a sink, was at a crowded concert. LOL This looks like a cool park. So you can fly drones at that park? Safe travels. Don
LOL I have seen a few things at crowded concerts also! 😂 Yes you can fly drones, so long as they don't catch you. (Just kidding! It's really OK.) You are right, I'm lucky to have a wife who is so handy -- I think she has more natural "fix it" ability than me (she inherited it from her Dad). Thanks Don!
We have that same tool to assist in opening our windows. Looks like a nice, refurbished park! We tend to like a few more trees for a little shade. What are those hooks for anyway? The playground upgrade is really nice. Yes, back in our day slides were made of METAL. LOL. I think the A loop would be more our vibe. Thank you for the very thorough, hilarious review of this park. 😁
Yes, the B loop has always been more exposed to the sun thanthe A loop, although I think some trees were probably lost in the recent renovations in the loop and that makes it seem even more barren. In a few years, the trees and landscaping in a loop will flesh out. Thanks for watching in the positive feedback! Always nice to hear from someone who understands the hot metal playground slide 🛝! 😂
I love state parks, too. Just know you can only circumnavigate the "globe" east to west or vice versa. You can't do it north/south. Nobody has ever done that. 🥞😉
The state and county parks actually want you to visit and try to make it as pleasurable experience as possible. The national parks view humans as an invasive species.
We were in the Black Hills last week and the campgrounds were mostly empty. Maybe 1/4 to 1/3 full but there were almost no families there. Most all the RVs were huge fifth wheels and class As with older retired folks in them. A few of them had their grandkids with them. Our lodge owner said the economy is killing families and they can’t afford vacations so the kids are going out with grandma and grandpa. One campground only had one family in it with kids. All the rest of the RVs were older folks.
Thanks, Chito, that is a very frustrating audio glitch. I have spent many hours trying to correct. I thought I had 100% fixed. I assume it is a glitch in the software. Aargh!
@@cpono in all the years we've been posting videos, this is the first time such a significant (30-second!) glitch has made it into the final post. After several hours of rendering and re-renderring the vid, I thought I had it 100% fixed. Thankfully UA-cam has some tools online that allow some minor "editing" after the fact -- so I will try to insert some music over the part that is messed up. This is one of those irritating mistakes that will annoy me for years! I will inform The Wife that Chito says it's time for a new computer...
That's not a state park, that's a resort! How much for a full hook up site and when is check in? Thanks for the info and yes, I probably went right by it.
I found myself chuckling a few times! You have a great sense of humor.
I like how you contrast state with national parks. Very informative.
Really glad to see you doing camping videos again!

Thanks for this. Heading east this fall and hope to check this one out! A rig question….. how long have you had this airstream?

But the state parks have a lot of freedom going for them, and with freedom often comes fun. I think this particular state park is operated in a way that profoundly benefits the community because so many enjoyable activities are made available
Glad to see your still driving your Ford 6 liter diesel.
The wheels haven't fallen off just yet!
Sean, I sure wish you had not made this one. We try to go twice a month because it is so close and we love the lack of crowds. Now I will not be able to get a spot. We have not been since they made the improvements, so I am excited to go stay in the A Loop. Safe travels
Glad to see you guys back.
I can’t thank you enuf for all you do and that you keep your airstream and repair it like me rather than getting newer model.
Hi Deb! We have two videos specifically about this topic that I think will be very helpful. Here are the links: ua-cam.com/video/reElF6OfFJk/v-deo.htmlsi=p2l2NffpBWTFPAEi

What, no lawn jarts? Pretty slick set up.
always enjoy your videos even though I don't RV anymore.. Thanks for the time and effort you put into them.
I appreciate that! More on the way.
WOW ....... Those "UPGRADES" are "off the wall", Sean .... You NEVER see that amount of $$$$ Put into ANY camping areas .... I will have to add it to my Fall trip down south .... "Thank You" for posting this one !!
great review of an awesome state park !! Alabama Parks & Rec Dept has really set-the-bar high !!! Take notice other states !!
Yes, they really did a great job with the renovations. I hope every state can have such facilities in its parks!
It is super easy from Nashville. Hop on I 65 and you will be there before you know it. Come on down. 👍
Thanks... love state parks. AL, GA, and FL do them well. In the west, AZ, CO, and UT state parks are great as well.
we were there a couple years ago looks alot better now great state park
Yes, the improvements to the campground are really great!
Yes, we may end up touring state parks and doing a bunch of videos ... lots of fun, usually easier to snag campsites, and less hassle overall. Thanks!
@@LongLongHoneymoon Good luck , looking forward to seeing it...stay well...
We’re going to the Hiawatha Trail in about three weeks
Does a bear poop in the woods?🤔
…not if it’s in a zoo 😂
Very nice ! I prefer state parks and COE to any other types of campgrounds.
COE are outstanding also!
Looks like a really nice park. Nice to have a dog park. We enjoy the state parks in Wisconsin, although they are not as fancy (electricity only)
We were there a few years ago and it's a great park.
There are so many great state parks out there. Literally in every state! The problem is booking ahead of time. Many are first come, first served.
Those hooks by the fire are for bananas and the always needed banana slicer.
Glad to see you covering state parks, hope to see more.
Thanks, this could become an ongoing series. I think it would be a lot of fun to explore unique state parks around the country.
Thanks Don!
@@LongLongHoneymoon Thanks for the info on the drone. Happy 4th.
Sean you are amazing at putting out some very informative and beautiful videos.
But it's always a little more special if Kristi is in them as well 🤭
I absolutely love State Parks. If you’re ever headed to Colorado or Wyoming hit me up and I’ll give you a few names.
Very informative and enjoyable video. Thank y’all!
Sweet Home Alabama. I especially like LA..Lower Alabama aka the Florida Panhandle
I’m sure you wouldn’t do well in a federal prison for filming. Another enjoyable video. Your sense of humor is impeccable.
@@LongLongHoneymoon We had many the metal slide rashes. Hahahaha! 😆
There might be hot water, but they’re still could be cold showers after that comment of standard wife
Looks like a great time. The next time we're headed up that way we'll have to stay a day or two. Thanks!
Wow! They put some money into that place. Looks like a great facility!
May want to check audio around 17:06, it cuts out.
*But another great video as always. "The Wife" is the preferred reference BTW.
Thanks, Chito, that is a very frustrating audio glitch. I have spent many hours trying to correct. I thought I had 100% fixed. I assume it is a glitch in the software. Aargh!
@@TheSeanMichael yup been there. My problem was my computer got too old after so many updates. When I got a new Mac, problem went away.
I would definitely go there if I am in Ala. thanks to you
That's not a state park, that's a resort! How much for a full hook up site and when is check in? Thanks for the info and yes, I probably went right by it.
