I’m watching this video 5 years after you put it out .. and this is other Example of how you called something years before it’s time people are talking about these a lot now just like you said
take a jack knife or straight edged blade and lightly scrape the green off the microwires stretching along on the boards that are in between the gold spots and dots..bet you will see the fine gold wiring connecting to them.(some may have copper). people will be surprised to see how much gold is under the green coating. (except the larger green areas on the board that are flat blank looking). a valuable and good point when bringing to the table selling your scrap to a dealer. I cut some of the thicker-older pc mother boards in half..used my jeweler's loupe, looked at the cut and was enlightened to see layers of gold wiring...more gold than what meets the eye that is for sure. I would be interested in watching you do a video,.putting the lab coat on and show us the process you use to extract the gold. Thanks for the video Ben..good education.
Ben if I knew how I would upload videos on the processes I use May surprise you just how much gold is on the finger boards. Basically I use a hot sand bath to remove all the soldered on bits then a hot caustic soda bath to remove the solder mask giving a clean board to process
Ive really wondered what those little rectangular things are on the ends of those that conect to the pannel. Theyre on the ribbon cable but i cant tell what they are
This is my 2nd time to see this video. Last time was almost a year ago and I was very new to ewaste. learn more watching the 2nd time around. Also I know very little about UA-cam Channels but I'm starting to watch all of the commercials to help you Ben. This video was intense, might be cuz it was 2nd time, but there was four 3 minute commercials. That was 75% of your video time. I'm VERY HAPPY to do it if helps. I doubt you'll see a post from this far back (3 years) so I'll probably post something about the commercials in a current video to come. Keep the videos coming!!!
Clad Queen It should dissipate after a while, But if you want to discharge A board, I learned to take a screwdriver and short them out, Or even lay them on A piece of metal that they can make contact on, That should do it.
+William Ela Hi William, No idea with the finger strip boards as I don't know anyone that has processed them yet. it varies a lot board to board and how heavy the gold plating/flashing is, it probably won't be a couple years yet before enough people start processing them in large enough qty's to get an average recover rate.
+Perry Seay Yeah a few, haven't found a board mounted one yet and waiting for the new style projectors to be thrown out, they have 'em too now, projection tv's are just about gone around here so I won't get many.
+eWaste Ben Hi E Ben I want to sell strip boards of TV have much gold to recover. if you want to buy 10 kg kindly do let me know. kindly upload a presentation how to recover gold from strip boards.
+Rick Flores They are both LCD TV's, The LED relates to the backlighting, so instead of having fluoro tubes all running along the back of the LCD, LED's have LED lights on the sides, no Fluoro's. So to scrap they will be pretty much the same because we don't go so far to get to the fluoro's or LED's. LED TV's are thinner because they don't have the little tubes through it so it saves space.
+eWaste Ben LED LCD TV's are still new so I haven't actually scrapped one yet, they should still have all the regular boards like finger strip boards because it's still an LCD
I have processed some with gold fingers. the amount of solder mask that ends up in the foils is ugh. I have found the best way to process the lcd boards is to depopulate them and crush them into -200 mesh powder. then either pan the powder or run it on a shaker table. All the epoxy left in the gold will cause problems. once it is all crushed and seperates it is very easy to refine.
eWaste Ben I outsource that end of it. I throw boards in a big bin after I depopulate them. When it is full I send it to a company that builds mining equipment. They run it through a hammer mill and ship me the powder. I mix the LCD boards in with all sorts of depopulated boards. I recover all the metals. I ran 4 pounds of them in a/p the epoxy from the solder mask made a mess. Can also crush them with a ball mill. Would take longer but it is possible.

Can you tell me about the electrical charge stored in the board and what you do to discharge? Thank you.

Hey Ben, I was wondering how much gold I can expect from 15 pounds of boards as that is what I currently have

+Rodman Lyons didn't think anyone had enough yet to warrant processing them, would like to see a video on how you do it, what do you crush them with?

+Rodman Lyons how do you separate all the metals from the powder?
+eWaste Ben a sluice box. Which I made out of a corigated pipe. I run it just like one would in a gold mining operation.
+Rodman Lyons oh ok so your just going for the gold
7 years later, these boards cost 8 EUR/KG
do you remove the ic chips to process?
+Zach LaFave Yes, all the items that come off easily like IC Chips, Flat Packs, MLCC's etc all will get processed in some way to recover the PM's
