I have a 37 inch Sanyo LCD purchased in 2008 that replaced a 25 inch cathode ray tube dinosaur. I've thought about buying a larger TV but this one is still going strong.

More and more I'm seeing these things in the trash. People replace them just because there's a bigger one on the market. It's a shame there's nothing in them to justify the time to scrap them but it is worth taking the stands and selling them on the net because people break them all the time.
      Peace

I scrap them somewhat. I've collected about 50 different sizes. Collecting the boards for the chips. Allegedly, there's gold in them. The plasma tvs tend to be better and have more aluminum. I doubt ill grab many once this experiment is done unless the gold is really good

I can't recommend contaminating your property with the phosphor in the plasma panel. Please do not break this down and spread the chemicals or breathe them,

Yeah - I don't blame you. If you're into micro scrapping circuit boards they're good for that. Otherwise it's mostly plastic and glass.
The stands are resell-able though because people break them all the time. For that I would take them off on-site and leave the rest behind.
      Peace

@@prolevelrestoration I just pull the back panel off, pull boards and wires, put panel back on and take to transfer station at landfill. They recycle the rest.

I wouldn’t think you could make enough to buy smokes😢

Well.... you can't really but you can buy a lighter.
It really comes down to which brand and if it's plasma. There was a little bit of of aluminum in the first one and some of the circuit boards hold a little bit of copper but not enough to justify the time.
The real problem is: the screws... There's so many of them that it's impossible to be productive. The other big problem is there's a lot of pure trash: mountains of plastic and glass..
I'm seeing them in the trash more and more and passing them by.
      I tried. I produced a video. I'm done BUT.....
If you want to fix them and resell them... there is a market for it.

Having just watched your vid you have answered your headline .Not the way you are doing it .Those thin tubes you smashed up contain Mercury Vapour ,and should be handled with care .
