I absolutely love your videos. Super informative. And no nonsense facts. I don't think i've ever commented on a youtube video. But if I have a choice between twelve videos for the same subject you are always my first go to.

Thank you for explanation, mine right guide was broken in M117 5.6l, fortunatly we have replaced them in time, chain and tensioner also. Tensioner from MB is quite expensive those days, chain from Iwis not so much.

I have a M117 engine in the shed. I'll pull those guides when I have time, & look at the part number. I'm pretty sure they are the aluminium type, as are the ones in the engine in my car.

Thanks, good video. I think its getting to time that I should have this done on my 450SLC. I understand it was done just before I bought the car 20 years ago, at 240,000km. Now the car has 310,000km and the guides are reddish brown, but not as red as the ones in the video. I think valve seals have gone hard and crusty anyway, so good time to get all this done.

When I changed my 1973, I was in two minds whether to replace the original aluminium backed guides with the new nylon ones. I decided to use the nylon ones but kept the old ones. Sure, they were discoloured but showed no signs of degradation.

Hi Greetings from Germany. I love your videos. I am currently working on my 380SL. Unfortunately I ad to take of my timing chain cover. I need to remove the Oilstick guide to get to the Bold at the back. Do you have a tip or video hoe to take it off? Secondly do you have to lower the Ölpan or can the cover be pulled out like that. Would be very helpful to know

Would you ever recommend replacing the tensioner without replacing the chain?

If the chain is good, maybe... but it is better to replace both, chain is cheap.

@@Gr3eGo True, but not an easy procedure, at least for me.

I just want to drop a quick unrelated comment here for you to see Mr. Hedary that John from Woods&Barclay sent me to you. I'm looking to secure an 82 300td and he said you're the perfect, and only person, he'd refer me to for a restoration. I look forward to cracking out to the rest of your content!
    Have a blessed day.
