Sort of similar to my life story, my Oldman had a 250 S in 1967 in Baghdad, I loved sitting and playing with the switches and what's not. Then he bought a 280 S in 1973, but this time I was little bit bigger and wanted to learn how to drive, so the 280 was the first car I drove. Through the years I acquired so many different cars but I always fall back on a Mercedes but not the new ones. Thanks, Pierre. That was great. Wouldn't ever have guessed you're Lebanese-a country that's on my bucket list. I have a friend who's half-Lebanese (he's an Audi fan, but we'll forgive him), and he's told me some great stories. Meanwhile, I love that you sort of bumbled your way into a passion that's had staying power; that's often the best way. I've never been that fortunate, but that's probably because I spent far too many of my formative years listening to parents whose intent was solid but whose guidance wasn't. As my step-father once said when I was practically a nervous wreck over which college to choose: "Craig, if you make even half the big decisions in life correctly, you're doing damned good." I've never forgotten those words. Anyway, always a highlight of the week watching the latest and greatest out of the PH Auto Lab. Keep on Benzin'. Wait: That's gasoline in German. Keep on Dieselin'. Or whatever Kraftstoff floats your boat.
Thanks for the backstop. I too have a university degree in History from the State University of New York but grew tired of the books and had enjoyed working on machinery even before college. I ended up spending the next 50 years working on German, Italian, British, Swedish ,French, and Japanese cars and have never regretted my decision. Very interesting and rewarding no nonsense profession. I have 2 126 cars and still enjoy working on and driving them. Solid and safe!
It will be interesting to hear how you became proficient as a mechanic. The days of "old school" mechanics are fading and without your insights, i would have thrown in the towel sometime ago. Working on my assortment of diesels is part of my mental therapy. Keep it going Pierre!

I found a video lately in Tripoli in a random street where there’s dozens and dozens of 115s and 123s in one single shot. I still remember having a bad day in the summer of 2010 stopping a “service” (taxi that picks up as many passengers as possible which are going on the same route so about 6 max)123 in downtown beirut. I slammed the door shut when I got in and the driver got very offended. I only understood his feeling when I moved to Canada and bought my 115 240D! I'm looking to get involved with the w123 community and keeping one of these beautiful cars on the road still. I currently go to UCF and I'm studying to be a chemist, i'm in my last semester actually. I hope to swing by the shop soon and see what a true MB professional environment looks like

My wife is Jordanian and I relish visiting my in-laws in Jordan because, there's so many beautiful classic Mercedes in Jordan that I look at and envy those who own them. Like you, I have a yearning need and nostalgia for classic Mercedes. I own three 126 chassis and one 211 chassis vehicles.
Good story sounds like you found your right niche. I personally loved observing the old diesel taxis overseas. My W115 has scratched that itch. Also with the Florida demographics you will continue to make a satisfactory livliehooh. Thanks Pierre i hope to make a trek to your shop some day.
Cool story. I like this man. I would buy a Mercedes from him. And if I was going to buy a previously owned Mercedes, I would for sure take it to his ship and have him check it out.
I'm a big fan of the W123 & W115 diesels because of my father/family members, some of his friends also had them back in the late 80's.I miss my W124 2.5TD I need to get another diesel benz.
There is something about a Mercedes 240d. I was given a 1980 Mercedes 240d automatic years ago and that car ended up saving my life when a drunk driver T-Boned me in the intersection where he blew through a red light. I had to get another. I now have a 1981 Mercedes 240d manual transmission. Just an incredible car and I like the fact that I can work on it.
Oh what tangled webs we weave! Looking forward to learning more about your CV and what makes you tick, especially what led you to pursue a "blue collar" career path. I too looked down on Mercedes, as old styling and underpowered until Dad established a very strong relationship with a new late '50s/early '60's 190D. After a long absence from the brand he bought an '83 240 D and boy did he leave Model T's, A's, and Ford flathead V-8's forever. That's too sketchy a picture of his romance with M-B but 'til the day he died, he was ALL M-B. Thanks for your beginning to letting us into how you got to where you are today. Looking forward to lots more, John
Uganda circa 1969, a customer brought in his 250D to be stored in my dads auto workshop, and later shipped to India. At the time we were surrounded by British cars and I remember the white Mercedes Benz stood out, very elegant. The accelerator linkage was unique, levers as opposed to the cables on the British cars. My uncle operated a transport business and he had a couple of Mercedes Benz L series(the 50's long nose) 6 tonne trucks, and they were solid. Love Mercedes Benz.
that's a great story! the old mercedes lk series trucks were amazing....I remember seeing them in lebanon but never in the US. amazing what an impact the Mercedes benz brand had on the world
@@mercedesclassicswithpierre1753 In the US, american manufacturers like GM, Mack, Peterbuildt etc dominate the truck market and they are good trucks too. Mercedes Benz have the biggest market in Western Europe, Greece, Turkey, Iran, Lebanon, Jordan all the way to the Gulf countries. They have been in these countries for over a hundred years! In all the Latin American countries they are everywhere, and the lions share is Brazil. There they even have a factory, I believe the output is bigger than in Germany.
Interesting story Pierre. My Dad had to buy a new car every 4 years in the 50`s because they were all falling apart-----Plymouth, Mercury, Olds, Pontiac. But he wanted a used Mercedes but never took the leap.
