It amazes me that people let stuff like this go I've seen it before it's just it's actually magical and keep guys who do stuff like this excited about doing it
Amazing man, personally this kind of stuff motivates the hell outta me! I'm starting from literally nothing but so motivated and will be there one day!👍👍👍
My late husband died and amongst other things I had a collection of mint vintage DINKY and CORGI die cast cars many in their original boxes that he had collected over 50yrs. I knew NOTHING about...AT ALL. So, I placed them all in a vintage toy auction and after three months I managed to sell everything. The most ONE car went for was £978 and it went to Australia.
Great find that will keep him busy for a long long time. I wouldn't say it's the best collection I've seen for sale in the Chicago area though since it didn't involve vintage cars. The Randy Pratl collection that recently has been selling from an auction house is probably the biggest and best one I've known of. Having attended toy car shows for years in this area and knowing the guys and ages of some of the collectors, I think it's safe to say there will be a quite a few more amazing toy car collections up for sale in the next 10 to 20 years.
4 years late but will share for anyone that finds themselves in a similar situation, gondola shelving. Common to find at store closing auctions. Picked up (136) 4 ft wide, 6 ft tall, double sided, with average of 4 shelves per side for $400. Easy to setup. Easy to adjust the shelves. Great way to get things out of the box and organize it for sale. Year later I bought a second lot of them just for additional shelves. (260) shelves for $175.
That was a definitely great video 📹 I thought I had a collection ha ha I don't think so. Now that was more than a collection there! His daughter had no clue what she just gave away
Dont sell it on ebay . The boycott is now happening on ebay The libtard ceo made changes to destroy seller ! then he resigned ! the dumb libards turned it into a GHETTO
Amazing collection. Feel bad for the previous owners that "lost" the collection, but good for John! Just stumbled upon the listings and intend to own some of these pieces.
As a diecast guy with a diecast channel, this was quite the find. Hopefully there isn't too much late 90's/early 00's NASCAR but there is more than enough other good stuff to make a nice profit on this. Great find!
Crazy part is I’m almost 100% certain those plastic cases were made by a kids dad I went to school with. Huge plastic business for collectible cars in the late 80s and 90s. Based in Ohio, such a simple simple idea and their business was always booming.
The first car you showed ,the gold and red one is a MK1 ford escort IN ALAN MANN racing colours.i owned two of these cars and I love them, such brilliant machines.
This was obviously the result of a Hobby store that closed down and the owner just moved all the inventory into storage. I dont know about a million dollars, but definitely worth alot of money. An amazing buy!
I was thinking the same thing. I remember a traveling convention vendor was selling his left overs on Facebook market, Amazon Market place, E-Bay. and Macari because he was getting to old to travel from convention to convention like he did back in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. The majority of the models were Sci-Fi like Star Trek this was back in 2018 as you know Star Trek is dying so is it's fan base. I ended up buying Jem'Hadar attack fighters model set and a Lt. Commander Data model figurine from him.
I told you before I love your channel and hope you don't mind, i just featured on my on my channel's home page to share with my new subscribers. We got the same type of peeps !
Wow with 20,000 cars, he paid $1.35 a car roughly. They're definitely worth $20 - $500 each depending on year and model. Average $50 a model and there's your $1,000,000. Awesome find.
This kind of product seems ideal to open a private online store outside of Ebay or Amazon. With so many different items in a narrow product range (diecast cars), this may help bring the store into high ranking in Google because the SEO's will have so many similar product descriptions.
@Jin Lee I don't think a poor boy playes with this kind of cars... it's similar with our parents told us... eat everything, others are starving... instead of eat only half, lets donate the rest to te starving ones :D :))
That's insane. I need to get into storage auctions. Can't believe someone would default with that much, and that the storage company didn't clean house.
I don't know about this collection, but I do know that there are countless die cast NASCAR cars out there and they are hard as hell to sell these days. But this collection is definitely worth a fortune.
Yeah I feel kind of bad for them too but honestly like if you can't afford to pay your bills but can afford to blow it all on this stuff in the first place you kind of deserve to lose it. Who knows man maybe the person died, like we have no idea. I can't imagine someone would just let it all go, they clearly had the resources to buy it all in the first place and not only that but to organize it as well as they did. I bet the person simply passed away or something.
@@wesweatyoushop2556 Diecast models go way back. they began in the early part of the 20th century, I can't find accurate info on exactly when or what company was first to the market with them. So Most 70's and 80's are not really considered vintage. ... yet. early 70's, perhaps. Kinda depends on your perspective. When you're as old as me, 70's and 80's was like yesterday. Within the well known brands, quality dropped about that time. then some other brands took up the slack. I don't know all the good brands in the larger scale cars. Heck, there is even some very good stuff coming out of China. You see, what people here fail to understand, is that the people in China can and sometimes do make quality stuff. At one time being made in China meant high quality. That was before Mao. It was "made in Japan" that meant cheap junk. Now made in Japan is a good thing. Why are they making junk? It's because that's what the people ordering the stuff demand. They want it as cheap as possible, and don't really want it to last, they want it to break or wear out quickly so people go buy more.

Lots of naysayers in this peanut gallery. At $1.80 paid per car there is no downside to this. The only question is whether he makes a lot of money on this score or a massive amount of money. Congrats and thanks for posting Pete.
yes, the downside is the massive time taken to sell all that to make whatever money. this would be a several lifetime job taking pictures and listing all that. He's got a lot of work to do just to get his $27K back and THEN he can start making a profit.
Wow amazing collection. I have about 350 cars worth $75K or so and I saw some good stuff in that pile. Hope you sold it all and it worked out for you. Two points: Point one: Congrats to the fella. A year or so ago, a friend of mine connected me with her friend who has recently lost her brother. Her brother had approximately 400 1/18 and 50 1/24 diecast cars. Almost all were unboxed and "dusty" did not begin to describe the condition. Her friend had been told by others that she was sitting on a gold mine. I did a quick perusal and saw nothing high end. I considered purchasing the collection, but didn't want to insult her. I only got called because I collect diecast. I am NOT an appraiser. I wondered what would've been a fair price, considering my time. Haul the collection home (unboxed!), clean every single one, buy shipping boxes/packing materials, compose the ads , box 'em up and send 'em out, praying like the dickens they get there in one piece. Then sigh as eBay takes 10%. Little by little, that profit gets eaten away. At $1 and change per car, this guy has some wiggle room. I think she thought she was sitting on tens of thousands of dollars. I didn't have the heart to tell this lady that if anyone offered her anything close to a grand, she should take it and RUN. Point two: I specifically collect Aussie stuff and was surprised to see he had some. I would've loved to bid, but his starting prices for those pieces were way too high for me.
