- Decided to do a little mod to my flightmaster and put in a sapphire crystal.
Crystal Link. I used the polarized one for this, I have another video with the blue as well

Another mod is • Seiko Flightmaster SNA...

Gorgeous colour on that AR.
I'm so glad I saw this video, I never realized that crystal replacement is so simple and fairly cheap, and for me as a DIY type of person was a pleasure to gain some new skills, I used your link for purchasing sapphire crystal with clear AR coating, some 20 bucks for press tool and 30 for watch repair tool kit from aliexpress. I had my flightmaster for over 10 years and crystal had already a lot of scratches, in comparison to oem crystal, new one has a bit higher dome, it is not noticeable until you compare, old crystal was a bit cloudy especially when looking at the angle and looked yellowish. Sapphire is so much clearer and I can now especially notice shiny black dial finish, combined with new leather strap and butterfly clasp, I got same feeling like i just purchased new watch, just like 10 years ago.
Great to hear.. sapphire crystal just elevates the watch.
Thanks for posting!! Just replaced my SNA411 crystal with a single-domed one from crystal times. Looks great and now I don’t have to worry about scratches on the glass! Couldn’t have done it without this video.
Thank you for the crystal times reference; was wanting to find a clear AR option with less height (single-dome) -- you did not disappoint! Cheers!!
@@krazyfiend no prob!! Hope it works out for you!
Great video I followed your link and orderd a blue AR sapphire for my sna411p1 got my mate to fit it as he works with watches had it pressure test but his machine only goes to 100 meters test and it passed twice. Well happy in love with this great watch again
Awesome on the the pressure test. I didn't test mine but have exposed to water numerous times and all good.
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful job. Every time I put it on, it amazes me that you can get a watch that looks this good for just $250.
Can’t find it at that price anymore 😢
Thanks! Just purchased the yellow/orange sapphire Crystal for my gold tone flighty.
My favourite Seiko watch Iv owned.
Absolutely gorgeous upgrade!
Your video inspired me to do this to my Flightmaster. My crystal came in today and I swapped them out! Absolutely love it now!
Glad to hear.. I'm sure looks awesome.
I went with the clear AR. I'm looking forward to installing it.
Thanks for this!! After watching a few times, I was able to swap in the same polarized AR sapphire in about 30 mins. I think it looks even better than the original!
Awesome.. I love the new look as well.
That’s stunning 😍. It’s crazy this same model has become more expensive. 😅
Nice job, I have a domed sapphire for my 7t34 Flightmaster that I've not gotten around to doing yet.. this vid has helped spur me along.
Yep, did it and it turned out great, good result..
I just put a uncle Seiko president bracelet on my sna411. It is a nice step up from the original. After seeing your crystal change I think that’s next on the list.
ya OG band not the best.
畫龍點睛,好機芯好盤面好外圈這支錶再改上這個鏡面完美!!!
Looks awesome!!!
Man looks great, definitely tempted to change the glass on mine too. But Im worried about the water resistance, I'm a diver and I've taken my flightmaster 20 meters (65.6 feet) under water with no problem at all and I'm not sure I'd repeat that after the sapphire change.
Yea I dont blame you, If i needed the WR I wouldn't have changed mine. Deepest this watch has gone so far is to bottom of the sink to pick up a fork.
I think if u get a new battery in a seiko boutique they would test your watch for water resistance too with a pressure tester for not a lot of money. So u wouldn't have to wait and see just have the battery replaced.
Followed the Ebay link and just flitted a blue sapphire to mine pressure test to 100 meters no problems
it's 100m wr after changing the crystal
looks fantastic!!!
Beautiful! 😍
Just ordered a crystal for mine. That was always the thing I liked least about it
nice.. You'll love it after
@@RandoRaf I used your link and got the same ar as yours. I really like that color. I have an Orient Maco I put a double domed Sapphire in with the same ar and it really made that watch.
@@rbmwiv nice. ya small mod just elevates the watch.
@@RandoRaf yes they do. Now instead of the factory jankey bracelet it has one you adjust with screws. It's a massive improvement. I did have it on leather for the past year and was wanting to go back to the bracelet but the factory one didn't cut it. This one fits great and is all brushed. I never liked the polished center links.
So funny, used EBay link for Glass, already on my watch-watch list
Hola buenas noches...me gusta mucho tu reseña del seiko, aprovecho para consultarte, adonde puedo comprar los push button de este modelo? Se me dañaron y me gustaría reemplazarlo pero no encuentro adonde comprarlo....
Nice good video, thank you! BTW from where did you get the leather strap shown in this video, looks really nice.
nice leather strap, is it 21mm ? great mod, I might do this on my flighty too.
22mm but i bent a 22mm springbar so fits like a 21
What type of strap is that?
@@Dannyfr33sh I believe its a B & R band, I got from them few years ago.
@@RandoRaf ahh Butterball & Rootbeer, love their straps..
Wow you got two models of the watch now you’re only missing the sna414
beauty
Great mod, well done, now to do mine. Polarized, blue or AR clear?... hmmm... The blue is barely visible in your other video. What music did you use on this one?
Thanks. I haven't seen the clear but I think it would be great. Between the Polarized and Blue, I prefer the blue its seems clearer if that makes sense. Not sure if polarization or what, but after having the polarized one on for few months then changing to the Blue the watch face just became clearer. I cant remember the music, sorry. I used several and just came out of the video editing software.
@@RandoRaf After I left my last comment, I put the red on mine. It's not polarized, I checked. I let the seller know and he made it clear that he didn't know what polarized meant. He thought it meant that it changes colors at different angles. The red reflection was too strong for me and made it hard to see the face. I thought about the blue, then ordered the clear AR. Still waiting for it to arrive. I noticed the dome stands just slightly higher than the Hardlex, which I like. I'll let you know how the clear AR looks when I get it installed. Not sure if I can send a pic. I got a band similar to yours also. I like it but prefer the original bracelet, at least for now.
@@keithmillard2527 Yea cycle my brackets around trying new ones. THe polarized one I got didnt seem as clear/crisp as the blue one.
Just put the clear AR on mine today. Crystal clear, no distortion at any angle, love it! Would post pics if I could/knew how.
I have this model from 2005, about how much should I expect to pay a repair place to do this for me plus a battery replacement, Thanks so much
Thanks for sharing your video. Great mod! If not a secret where did you buy a sapphire, brand/model, cost.. Thanks & Cheers
sorry for delayed..added the link
If I buy the glass, would any watchmaker be willing to put this on? This looks really nice.
Thanks for the vid!!!
Ya I don't see why not.
I've got to say, after replacing my crystal with this one I miss the distortion of the original. I think I prefer single dome vs double dome.
Yea I understand that, I tried to find single dome but wasn't able.
@@RandoRaf I'm not having any luck either. It's still nice and it won't scratch now. There is always the original available to purchase for $35 too I think.
I'd say if you're worried about scratching your sapphire crystal by using a cloth, maybe you're not sure it's sapphire. The inner coating i get, but the outside...that's the whole point of getting sapphire, isn't it?
Very true, just do it out of habit I suppose. I have 2 new presses coming so will be doing some more crystal installs soon. Will go clothless this time :)
Gorgeous! Can you please leave a link where to purchase the crystal saphire for flighty?
added the link www.ebay.com/itm/293724771373?var=592527374455
What size crystal did you use and where did you get it.
Nice Benchmade)
good eye
👍
Man that looks awesome. Is it likely to still remain waterproof?
I'm assuming yes but not to same specs. I've gotten it wet washing car but never took it down into pool or anything like that.
@@RandoRaf Washing the car with a watch on, and wearing a watch on the right hand, what kind of monster are you?
@@mad0uche haha lefty.. We're odd bunch.
Great looking mod, though it's possible to see that when looking at the watch from a shallow angle the new crystal significantly magnifies\increases the gap between the chapter ring and bezel, whereas the standard one keeps them tight and actually closes the gap a bit. Likely due to a different inner dome curve on the new crystal, it seems to NOT be the same exact dimensional spec as the original which changes the optics.
It's possible to see this effect at 12:02 & 12:07.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of the perceived reflection reduction is due to this difference as well as the AR.
No, I don't use the bezel & chapter ring functions myself like 99.9% of owners, but it's worth making a point of as it's a detail that's important to some people regardless of actual usability.
EDIT: Having looked into this a bit more, 100% sure the difference is because the Seiko crystal is single dome, the new one double dome.
very good observation. you're right
@@emiliosanchez1109 Having subsequently fitted one of these crystals (blue AR), I think the benefits of the AR coating outweigh any non-originality concerns. Usage of the bezel isn't perceptively affected at normal viewing angles and it does look a lot nicer.
Thanks to the Rafs for the video, it made the job easier to see how this exact model came apart.
Yes.. original is single dome. this is double dome so optics do change.
Hi mate been struggling to find one glass in UK. Any idea?
aliexpress or ebay - mine came from China
@@RandoRafthank you, just ordered a crystal clear one. Cheers! 👋
What about the gasket for the crystal? Do you replace the gasket when you change the crystal?
You should always replace gaskets when you open up watch is probably the official answer. I however do not unless it gets damaged.
@@RandoRaf yeah, I'm probably going to just add a little silicone grease to the gasket and do the same. Mine crystal just got here today but I won't be able to install until I get back from the trip I'm going on.
@@benldr just be careful that stuff can get really messy fast.
Can you please share the link to where you purchased that crystal? Thanks!

I thought the original was single dome to make the distortions?
@@RandoRaf Hi! Fantastic job! I love this crystal but the reference isn't the same as SNA411 (Seiko flightmaster). Are the dimensions identical?
@@guillaumerenaudiere from my research same as the seiko turtle,so thats what I searched for since it's a more common watch
@@RandoRaf thank you! Are you happy with the crystal? The color effect looks very nice, I'm tempted to try it out ;)
I heard somewhere that you'll lose the 200m water resistance if you change the glass , is it true ?
I have no way to test but in my opinion anytime you open up a watch and you will lose factory performance and if you start replacing parts risk even more. So i'm pretty confident that this will not have 200m preformance but for my use case it works fine in shower or sink.
Didn't test-rotate the bezel before assembly.
Didn't test the pushers before assembly.
Puffed air into the calibre inside the case ... which could force dust into the area between the face and crystal.
Didn't use a plastic protective barrier between the case back tool and the case back.
Cool. Why did you choose a dome glass?
I couldn't find a dome option, so this is double dome. I like the look of the bubble crystal vs flat
AR coating never seems to work 😂. But I was curious about readability since part of what the hardlex does is to magnify the dial
Yes the original is single dome so magnifys, and distorts at angles. THis is a double dome so no magnifying, I personally have no issue with visibility but just depends on your eyes.
Is there still distortion with this glass?
Not on 1 I install. If you want distortion just make sure you get single dome glass. I used double doom so no magnification or distortion but get a better view angle
Hey man, do you know if this crystal is AR coated on the underside only?
sorry I dont, if I had to guess it I would say underside only.
Does the sapphire crystal have a blue tint?
You can get them with blue AR coatings.
No this one is yellow/orange. I have another video of the blue version.
Where do i look for this mod at where do i order sapphire crystal
sorry for delay.. added link in description
Looks excellent! Does this affect the water resistance?
I dont have a pressure tester, but I always assume that WR is gone once I replaced crystal. Beyond washing hands I take it off to be safe. But washed my car this weekend wearing it and was dunking hand into bucket and looks fine.
@@RandoRaf aah okay, makes sense. Would be cool to test it to see if it affected it...either way, definitely looks great!
What strap is this?
I can't remember where I got this and lettering hard to make out imgur.com/a/PLO8SNB
@@RandoRaf yeah I think it just says "Made in Germany" - Do you remember anything based on that?
@@tonysteele3805 sorry forgot to respond no sorry not sure on the origin I have many straps I've gotten thru trades and purchases
@@RandoRaf No worries man thanks for the video! I just got this crystal myself for mine. Not sure what I'm gonna do for the strap. Might just leave it stock.
Where did you get the cristal, I want to do the same for mine

How do you remove the crown
There is release point on where you stick the pin. I have another vid on this watch might be easier to see it there

@@RandoRaf found it thanks bro
Where did you get the sapphire glass? Model number?
I got it on ebay, justed wanted to find cheapest. I added link in description
Song? lol
looks cool but thats good bye to 200 meter resistance right there
It's likely still waterproof to 50m, which is really all you need. This isn't a diver watch, 200m of wr is more of a dick measuring contest with Casio.
Realistically speaking if he took care of the gaskets it may very well be waterproof down to 15+ bar.
Ya most likely but its not a watch I would wear diving anyways, if i dived.
I need to mod mine were can I purchase this accessory?
I added link in description
Where can I buy the Sapphire crystal at
sorry for delay. I got it on ebay. added link
Is the polarized version recommended?
I used the polarized version here but have another vid with the blue one as well.
