This is something I really enjoyed doing and plan on doing more of in the future. I visited several locations in both northeast and southeast Portland to compare old pictures taken in the city to how those locations look today. It's amazing how some places can change drastically while others can remain so consistent through the decades.

After thriftway bailed out, there was a "Speck" restaurant featuring KFC at the west side of the building. The sign had a huge image of the Colonel and the eyes moved from left to right. Used to creep me out as a kid. Mid-sixties, I recall.

I just old enough to remember when the they took out the reservoir at SE 60th & Division. At least they left the pump house.

I'm trying to remember wasn't that where the apartments are next to the pump house? And cant remember if they took that out to build the other one up there or just removed it

And it wasn’t just the Fred Meyer occupying the space. Out front there was a coin-op laundromat and dry cleaners, a shoe repair shop, a small salon and an ice cream parlor called Bressler’s 33 Flavors. Across from the main building (where the Petco is now) was an optometrist and optical practice.

You should try some of these comparisons in the winter, when the trees have less leaves.

I really love watching the old and modern comparisons with pictures. It's so cool to see how much everything has changed.

I agree! The before & after views of an area that Steve does are great. He`s meticulous about matching up structures & street views as well.

When I was a kid 80th & Stark still had Dickson drugs in that very spot. Montaville/Stark street was a dead duck after the movie theater closed and was the nickle ads place after then back to a movie theater. There use to be an old school diner where Rosco's is or was. Not sure what's in that corner building these days. But flying pie was getting ready to move in ,in just five or six years from that time. There were a man's Barber shop and a ladies hair salon. The barber was across the street from the barber that's there today. Anyway, thx for the memory lane trip. I grew up right down the street on 76th

Would love you to do a story on old homes that still exist in Goose Hollow area including the Jacob Kamm house that was moved there in 1950 and the nearby area where Eric Ladd stored old building facades from classic buildings that were demolished.

WOW! This is so awesome! Another great source for vintage photos is the Sellwood Bee. Dana Beck writes great pieces on the history of Sellwood with a lot of photos. Many of the buildings are still standing with former businesses, and even a church, now turned into homes! I greatly look forward to seeing more of your videos! Great work!!

So funny - when you were walking on 67th off Glisan I was like “wait, I recognize this street” and sure enough the house I grew up in was there. My grandma also lived off 45th and Glisan near the Greek church and I love seeing the old Laurelhurst columns.
