Back in the day when NO ONE used the concourse's power outlets except janitorial staff -- and my brother and I using the game boy AC adapter to save AA batteries for the plane.
Must be fairly early 90s as the ticketing area and main terminal renovation had occurred, but the baggage claim area still had that wood paneling on the walls.
So crazy to see how the security was back then. I was born in 99 so I've never known what it's like to fly without the TSA! I wish I could time travel 😭
I was born in 92 and I've been on planes before 9/11 regulations. Little regional airports and a couple of big ones. You could just mill around on the tarmac apron and walk around the plane, talk to the pilots, just relax and wander wherever you wanted. When I was 8 I got lost trying to find the arcade at o'Hare and one of the janitors brought me back to my mom on the luggage cart, it was cool.
Nobody was that stupid to smuggle weapons into an airport then. The people doing that were mostly the mafia and they had their own agents and connections to do so out of the public eye.
Wonder when this was exactly. Can see Continental Airlines had their old logo which changed 1991 and didn’t change over at the PDX check-in. I’m guessing it’s a mix of different days this was recorded.

What a throwback!

*I remember this was exactly how airport really was.*
Dang everyone looks generally happy😂
Except for the airport security screeners, ironically. They all look dead inside lol
Better days
Airport security was just a quick, routine no-hassle activity. It looked extremely lax that weapons and the sort were probably easy to sneak in.

It’s so jarring seeing the PDX departures roadway without the giant glass canopy over it lol
Everything seemed safer when everybody actually engaged with those in their present 😢
Verry few wheeled bags back then!
Everything changed when airlines started to charge for checked bags around 2008.
People packed what they needed for the trip and no more. If they needed something they bought it in the town they flew to, or from relatives houses.

My God people Slepped their luggage around? Dark Ages!
When Delta was a big deal

Looks like the early 90s
This was likely 1990 exactly, as that was when the new carpeting was installed that became ever so famous when they replaced it in 2015.
Back when nobody knew about Portland and it actually wasn't awful ..just boring go a degree
Security today: Advanced bomb screening for luggage, K9 patrols, systematic racial profiling
