This review made me realize that the "I'm too sexy for my cat" line is clearly just an excuse for them to use the word "pussy" without getting in hot water for it.
When you put it like that, "I'm too sexy for my cat" sounds like the sentence I used to jokingly talk about the time I tried to date a lesbian: "I was too much of a man for her" (I would like to point out that I found out after she rejected me)
Maybe I’m overthinking it, but the line “I’m too sexy for my love, love’s going to leave me” always kinda made me think that this song was actually about a man going through a breakup and he’s in that “fuck you, I’m better without you anyway” denial phase of it and is telling his friends some shit like “Nah, man, she just couldn’t handle all my sexiness! Yeah, that’s what it is! I was too sexy for her! And I’m also too sexy for my shirt and my car and my cat and fuckin’ everything, man! Too. Sexy.”
To me it seems more like the people he dates are too superficial and perverted, only wanting him for his body and being unable to have a meaningful relationship.
When "I'm Too Smurfy" came up I almost disliked the video before I snapped back to reality and remembered what video I was actually watching. That was transcendentally horrible.
No way! I had never heard "I'm Too Smurfy" before this video. It was awesome! I am totally gonna be singing that tomorrow. It's way better than the original. I'm too smurfy for my shirt. That's great! Wait. What happens when they get too smurfy for their hat? Smurfs always wear hats, right? Do smurfs have cars?.... Nope, they were too smurfy for their cars.
As a german, I have to say, even I thought Right said Fred were german. It seemed like the kind of utterly brillianty stupid that can only come out of germany. Also 'I'm too sexy for my shirt' just sounds like the kind of sentence that emerges if someone writes a song in a laguage they don't quite grasp.
“Richard came out as bisexual early on, to the shock of absolutely no one.” This resident bisexual is not shocked either, bisexual shock has left the building.
As someone who lived in uk at the peak of their popularity.. unfortunately they weren’t given a fair deal by the media, who were totally obsessed with their homosexuality and sex lives, going as far as to hide cameras in their hotel rooms and stuff... back in early 90s it was totally seen as ok to look down on gay sex, and the media were totally evil towards these guys.
Enrique Poveda Yep. Same with Freddy Mercury, who’s gay relationships were so focused on by the media that many people today still think he was gay and not bisexual.
This song was so ubiquitous, even my grandfather knew it. While I was living with my grandparents for a while I had a pair of super torn up blue jeans (like every rock/metal obsessed teenager should own at some point) and he would sing "I'm too sexy for my pants" at me. This was a man who was old enough to have a childhood memory of Pearl Harbor, and even he knew this song. And for the record: yes, I am too sexy for my pants.
I always took "too sexy for my car/hat/love/song" to mean that he's sexy enough to not have to resort to a sports car, high fashion, an attractive woman, or (a song's worth of) bragging. @@holdmybeer what the fuck is the point of your response? Dude literally did not specify what he thinks a sexy woman even is? Why didn't you tell OP the same? 🤦♂️
So, an update: these guys responded to Drake sampling them in his song Way 2 Sexy and apparently showed an interest in collaborating. If it goes through, and it's Drake, the world-record-breaking chart topper... they might not be a one hit wonder much longer
"I'm too sexy for my car" could mean "I'm so sexy, I can't resist getting out of my car to show myself." "I'm too sexy for my love" could mean "I'm so sexy, my lover is jealous and wants to leave me."
Deeply dippy is such a great track. I remember back in the early 90s at 'The Great British Music Weekend', a weekend of gigs at Wembley Arena featuring British acts as part of the Brit awards, we were at the second night, which featured alternative acts like Jesus Jones, EMF and The Cure. The crowd were all wearing black baggy clothes and Vision Street Wear trainers and thought they were achingly cool. Then in between acts the video for Deeply Dippy comes on. The place goes fucking nuts. The singing is louder than at any other time during the whole gig, the mosh pit is going crazy. It was a wonderful moment, and for that RSF will always have a place in my heart.
You're My Mate is an absolute banger and the fact that it is written for people sick of either their boy- or girlfriends and how being "a mate" knows no gender boundaries honestly makes that song pretty damn amazing. Yhea, Right Said Fred are cool in my books.
"It's time to finally get to Right Said Fred. Seeing as how they're having their big comeback, having co-written the number one song in the country." Well... not anymore. edit: would you look at that, way 2 sexy is a hit and right said fred wins again
Right Said Fred continuing legacy honestly confused me, I mean you get songs like Sexy and I Know It, Look What You Made Me Do, and Way 2 Sexy literally becoming number one hits in the past 10 years
I legitimately thought Todd already did this song for one hit wonderland, like, forever ago. When I first saw it come up as a UA-cam notification I was like "Oh, I bet he is reuploading stuff that got yanked for copyright or something." Then as I was scrolling through his videos today I realized that no, he hadn't done it before. The song is such a one hit wonder, like the Platonic ideal of a one hit wonder (the "Ur hit wonder" if you will) that I had automatically assumed it had already been covered. This leaves me no choice but to come to terms with the existential dread that much of what I think I know is not in fact reality but rather a simple collection of synaptic neural interactions influenced by external stimuli that can never be truly verified at a fundamental level. Behold the philosophy of Todd: the universe is a shadow and we are all in it. *Head explodes*
It was a great tongue in cheek song that is totally great fun. It was not necessarily sending up male models but models in general - not models only really but people who take themselves too seriously. It was just a great fun song. And is remembered instantly - so they scored.
I think the thing Todd misses with the whole Sonic 3 single is that Right Said Fred probably found the idea hilarious. That's why the did it, they didn't have to. I don't think they ever took themselves seriously.
Ngl, my tolerance for British everything has made me fall in love with not only this band, but the song they based their name on. Those imperialists know how to come up with catchy lyrical structure
"...with a bunch of hot chicks..." Honestly, I have a hard time picturing this song in any other context than a gay club. What I know about gay clubs I've only heard from friends or seen on TV, but what I've seen from them is that they tend to play uptempo dance music and it's even better if the songs about something sexy, so this would fit right in. It's perfect because a lot of gay clubs have a bunch of shirtless dudes inside. Something about the baseline, the drums, and the piano riff just somehow screams "gay club jam" to me.
Todd has to review This little song its called All Around The World By a band called ATC That would be just great For all the dance song fans You don't know how it goes? its the one that says la la la la la They're from around the world la la la la la Todd will be in rage la la la la la its worse than Donna lewis la la la la la, la la la la la la la Seriously, make that a OHW!
"Too sexy for my car" actually makes perfect sense. We normally expect the opposite, non sexy people reliving their youths in sexy cars, but really sexy people in not so sexy cars...
Here in Australia it peaked at 38, I was not aware it topped the charts in the UK until seeing this video. I always thought Deeply Dippy was 10 times the song thatToo Sexy was….
that "i'm a model, you know what i mean" part is stupid catchy. it's so good that it stands out in a song that's hook after hook all the way till the end. richard is also VERY handsome wtf, i always assumed the singer in this song would be some ugly dude idk why
The song 'Right Said Fred' is notable for being one of two options you have when picking up a piece of furniture in the UK The other being for you to go "to me, to you, to me, to you" for a while
Haha! Literally just a few hours ago I searched One Hit Wonderland thinking "Is there a new episode?" before going "Aww, nope." But I guess you are psychic. You knew I wanted a new one!
I was shocked it's them when Don't Talk Just Kiss, as it's one of the songs that were overplayed merely around 10 years ago on the radio stations in my country when I still listened to it.
Also, thank you Todd for introducing me to the song "Right Said Fred." I'm actually a huge fan of novelty songs, so this was a nice addition to my collection (it's also been stuck in my head for days XD).
This song got to be every single man's anthem......especially after you shower, you look into your bathroom mirror & sing the chorus to yourself. Plus it has a very likeable dance beat. The song is classic in my book ! 🖤❤️❤️🖤❤️🖤❤️
Hmmm....Deeply Dippy strikes me as a nod to Donovan. Interesting. 🤔 Thanks for doing these videos. I'm having a blast binging them and you helped me remember songs I've forgotten but still love. 😜
Before watching this, I'm just gonna assume that you're gonna bring up how this song was just sampled by Taylor Swift in Look What You Made Me Do. ABOUT A MINUTE AND A HALF IN: YYYYYYYYYYYep.
Exactly. The only reason Taylor Swift credited Right Said Fred was because the rhythmic cadence in the LWYMMD chorus was the same as in the chorus to I'm Too Sexy. That and legal matters, but Todd already mentioned that.
I saw RSF in a local nightclub on a Monday night some time around 2002. It’s in my top ten “concerts” of all time! One of the most enjoyable nights I’ve had. DTJK and Deeply Dip are bops!

Fun fact: Back in the early 90s, local Madison, WI pop radio station DJ Johnny Danger, after being disgruntled with the direction of that station and hearing he was going to be fired anyway, locked himself in the studio and played this song on loop for hours.
My son was 3 when he heard this. He thought the guy said I'm a moron and I do my little turn. I never corrected him including singing at the top of his lungs at the grocery store. The wife was less than pleased

Ide like to thank you Todd, for introducing me to all the other songs these guys did. Because, as it turns out... I fuckin LOVE them! Especially Deeply Dippy, Bumped, and You're My Mate. They are all on my playlist now.
When are we going to get a One Hit Wonderland episode on Soulja Boy's "Crank That"? Besides, nowadays he's just selling pirated/knock off consoles left and right.
You know, often the acts on this show pivot to (or were briefly doing a bit that got popular) "serious" music. Kudos to Right Said Fred for doing what was in their heart and sticking to it despite it not being what everyone wanted.
In my country we didn't have the MTV US, just MTV UK (yay for Ray Cokes!), and all those post-I'm Too Sexy hits were HUGE. So much I actually realized I know all of the lyrics by heart even though I never ever listened to them, it's just that they were constantly in the background if you had MTV on (and in the 80s and 90s you ALWAYS had MTV on). Also.. I kinda like Deeply Dippy and You're My Mate. Cause you're my mate.. and I... will stand by you...

He's a total piece of shit, one of the most rancid, stupid loudmouthed fools ever to disturb the UK charts
What I love the most about this guy is that while there is a tendency to be snarky & mean to one-hit wonders, he keeps everything respectful.
If you're an attractive man who is watching this video: don't listen to Todd.
Follow your dreams. Without a shirt.
Snitch Especially if you are Theo James or Ryan Reynolds.
No...wear a tight shirt and just spontaneously jump around in a fountain, or jog when it drizzles.
Attractive women should do the same thing ;-)
@@Danimal77
attractiveness is subjective bro.
It just might happen. We already got Mark Morrison to chart again this year, if only for a brief moment.
"I'm too sexy for my car" could mean "I'm so sexy, I can't resist getting out of my car to show myself."
"I'm too sexy for my love" could mean "I'm so sexy, my lover is jealous and wants to leave me."
The most underappreciated 90's look was the ironic sexy cowboy, pioneered by depeche mode and perfected by right said fred
You're My Mate is an absolute banger and the fact that it is written for people sick of either their boy- or girlfriends and how being "a mate" knows no gender boundaries honestly makes that song pretty damn amazing. Yhea, Right Said Fred are cool in my books.
Let's hope this video is too sexy for UA-cam. So sexy, it doesn't get a copyright strike.
"2 buff Moby's"
10/10 reference
I mean...yeah..... isn't it just a 'reference'. Not an obscure reference...just a regular reference. Your rating system is wild my dude.
wow ever since TSwizzle died this song is everywhere
can I just say that TSwizzle is now my favourite thing?
TOOL just dug her up and killed her again.
I just know that I need "du hast" with the "I'm too sexy" beat in my life now!
tbh, this is probably my favorite song of all time
Red Green seriously?
I'm just too sexy for anything else
It was in Encino Man so you know it's good.
My favorite song is “Come Crimson Death” by Jess and the Ancient Ones.
"to the shock of no one" could be my favourite todd quote
"It's time to finally get to Right Said Fred. Seeing as how they're having their big comeback, having co-written the number one song in the country." Well... not anymore.
edit: would you look at that, way 2 sexy is a hit and right said fred wins again
Todd in the Shadows: King of Timing.
I hope Todd reviews Cardi B.
No, that's damn it! How do you think Todd should review that song? Also the song isnt too bad but it's so simple that it's boring.
BlueFox94 I would like to see him review "Bodak Yellow".
This song really is just stupidly fun.
I love how it doesn’t take it self seriously
It was a great tongue in cheek song that is totally great fun. It was not necessarily sending up male models but models in general - not models only really but people who take themselves too seriously. It was just a great fun song. And is remembered instantly - so they scored.
I think the thing Todd misses with the whole Sonic 3 single is that Right Said Fred probably found the idea hilarious. That's why the did it, they didn't have to. I don't think they ever took themselves seriously.
Watching RAMMSTEIN sing "Du Hast" over the tune of "I'm Too Sexy" was one of the funniest goddamn things I've seen on this channel.
Get in before UA-cam pulls it out. (That came out wrong)...
MissNotSoCool 96 We're too sexy for innuendo. :D
"We have an upper limit of sexiness; it tops off around....Jon Cryer" lol
Ngl, my tolerance for British everything has made me fall in love with not only this band, but the song they based their name on. Those imperialists know how to come up with catchy lyrical structure
"...with a bunch of hot chicks..."
Honestly, I have a hard time picturing this song in any other context than a gay club.
Todd has to review
This little song its called
All Around The World
By a band called ATC
That would be just great
For all the dance song fans
You don't know how it goes?
its the one that says la la la la la
They're from around the world
la la la la la
Todd will be in rage
la la la la la
its worse than Donna lewis
la la la la la, la la la la la la la
Seriously, make that a OHW!
ElectroChart Top 25 You deserve this!
ElectroChart Top 25 omg, YES!!!!!!!! I hope he does it
Honestly, I love that song! I have a feeling Todd won't though. I remember spending a good amount of time trying to find it.
I'm in Heaven (when you kiss me) is my preferred A Touch of Class song....
And that video's going to beat out Automatic Man.
"Too sexy for my car" actually makes perfect sense. We normally expect the opposite, non sexy people reliving their youths in sexy cars, but really sexy people in not so sexy cars...
Deeply Dippy is an understated masterpiece
Deeply Dippy is a fantastic song! Its just pure fun! :-D
Here in Australia it peaked at 38, I was not aware it topped the charts in the UK until seeing this video. I always thought Deeply Dippy was 10 times the song thatToo Sexy was….
I unironically love Right Said Fred. Deeply Dippy is one of my favourite songs. I'm 100% serious. I can't explain it, it just makes me happy.
I demand an explanation for the Bob Dylan thing without being willing to do a second of research to understand it myself.
Deeply dippy was number one when my little brothers were born :-)
rave/techno music being so massive in the uk was a direct result of bryan adams' reign of terror so at the very least i have him to thank for that
I need Todd dancing as a gif
Todd's too sexy for a gif, too sexy for a gif
@Masles Roy 😂💯
*Don't Talk, Just Kiss* was actually a great song that deserved more love.
Okay. Someone has to make a mash-up of this song and "Du Hast." I need it.
that "i'm a model, you know what i mean" part is stupid catchy. it's so good that it stands out in a song that's hook after hook all the way till the end. richard is also VERY handsome wtf, i always assumed the singer in this song would be some ugly dude idk why
Time for an episode on ATC. They're pretty obscure nowadays. And they're from 2001 making it one of the newest songs for an episode.
chronicle a I totally read that as XTC and got really excited.
The song 'Right Said Fred' is notable for being one of two options you have when picking up a piece of furniture in the UK
The other being for you to go "to me, to you, to me, to you" for a while
Haha! Literally just a few hours ago I searched One Hit Wonderland thinking "Is there a new episode?" before going "Aww, nope." But I guess you are psychic. You knew I wanted a new one!
"Don't Talk,Just Kiss" sounds surprisingly good.
I simply love Deeply Dippy, one of my favorite songs. Fight me.
"Deeply Dippy" hit number one in the U.K. I dig the soft jazz horns and lounge singer vibe.
13:30 HOLY SHIT
i blurted out "sonic" as a joke WHAT THE FUCK
I'll never forget that I learned about this song through a pre-UA-cam video of Alan Rickman as Snape "singing" the song in the early 00s.
The phrase "Ryan Adam's reign of terror" made me laugh harder than I have in a tremendously long time.
I was shocked it's them when Don't Talk Just Kiss, as it's one of the songs that were overplayed merely around 10 years ago on the radio stations in my country when I still listened to it.
I’ve never closed pornhub so quick in my life
I'm too sexy for PornHub.
🖤❤️❤️🖤❤️🖤❤️
“I know ALL the words to this song, and I’ve never listened to it all the way through.”- instant classic line!
Used to be my Bar Mitzvah theme song lol!
You played this at Bar Mitzvahs?! I thought it was weird when my friend kept playing "Your Love Is My Drug" over and over at her Bat Mitzvah party.
Millie Sophia I wish. I'm not a DJ. I mean I played it at my bar mitzvah.
ABOUT A MINUTE AND A HALF IN:
YYYYYYYYYYYep.
"Sampled"
DiamondAxeStudios he already said it in the Taylor swift video, not a surprise.
Exactly. The only reason Taylor Swift credited Right Said Fred was because the rhythmic cadence in the LWYMMD chorus was the same as in the chorus to I'm Too Sexy. That and legal matters, but Todd already mentioned that.
Look what you made him do!
I watched it just to see if he mentioned that the guitar riff in the background is from "3rd Stone From The Sun". He didn't.
Thanks for introducing me to that Smurf song I will listen to it every day
Knowing that the "Too Sexy" guys wrote a song about Sonic made this video worth watching all by itself.
I saw RSF in a local nightclub on a Monday night some time around 2002. It’s in my top ten “concerts” of all time! One of the most enjoyable nights I’ve had. DTJK and Deeply Dip are bops!
Let's be fair. MICHAEL JACKSON was involved in writing music for Sonic 3. And I'm not convinced he was a has-been quite yet in 1994.
I mean, there was a reason for that, unfortunately.
He WAS involved until... you know what. 👀
@@timmy841212 what
@@ShrekfromthehitmovieshrekAccusations/allegations of child abuse. Personally I'm not sure what I believe. In any case it doesn't really matter now that Jackson's dead.
Hasbeen in 94? Nope, HIStory was the best selling double album ever and the lead single was the first song to debue st number 1# and he had the most successful remix album in Blood on The Dancefloor.
I remember a slightly reworked version of "I'm Too Sexy" being used in a commercial for....
THE TOYOTA CAMRY!!!
In what alternate universe is a Camry even a little sexy, let alone TOO sexy?
"Too sexy for my car" indeed.
15:48 WTF! He's reading the lyrics! Are you kidding me? You're recording a song for the Smurf soundtrack from the Smurf movie and it's the only song anyone knows you for and you need to read the lyrics?
That dance at 38 seconds 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 You go #ToddintheShadows!
Cause you're my mate.. and I... will stand by you...
i’ve never heard the wonderman song until i watched this episode, but i swear the flow of the rap part of the song sounds so familiar.
also i knew from the second i heard the drinking song that it were made to try to ride the coattails of tub thumping, wow that is blatant :/
That drum loop under everything else was so popular it was even included on a factory disk that came with my ASR-10 sampling keyboard.
"Looks like they recorded a song for The Smurfs 2"
Please, be "I'm too smurfy for my shirt!"
"I'm too smurfy for my shirt!"
YES!
