The way she narrated such a long journey in a very smooth and entertaining way...no repetition, no pauses...so smooth and fun to listen to. She is indeed a great story teller and a woman to look up to. Bless your good soul. stay safe
I want you to know that I cried seeing your TEDtalk Ride like a Girl because it is so inspiring. Although I’m a 52 year old man it really hit me. In my early youth I was more of a bookworm then a sporty boy and I hated gym classes and sports because I was never good at it. I was that slender boy that was always picked last when teams for gym at school were chosen because I threw balls or climbed robes ‘like a girl. So I started to hate everything sports related and sat quietly in the corner with a book. Last year I ditched my car and bought a bike for commuting and groceries and the psysical exercise was hard but last year ended with almost 9.000 km on the odometer of my bike computer. Daily distances are growing but stormy and rainy days in the flatlands of Holland can still be hard but I’ll succeed. What your Ted-talk told me is that I can loose the trauma of being ‘like a girl’ isn’t so bad; it is something to be proud of. I really hope that your talk is seen by non-manly bookish boys like the one I was and that the next time they are laughed at because they are ‘like a girl’ they picture you and laugh back or smile.
I find I keep returning to Lee's UA-cam clips. Enthralling, captivating, engrossing, inspiring, uplifting, motivational. She reminds me why as a boy as soon as I got on my bike it was magical with that feeling of freedom and unlimited potential of adventure. That feeling is still as strong today 50 years later.
Lee is a natural story teller, a smart woman and a great cyclist who thinks a lot. I plan to share this with my non-cycling colleagues, for the collaborative perspective she offers.
this woman gets it. It's not about the goal, but the journey. Success, fame fortune are all for nothing if you don't take a break and learn to live in the moment more, learn to cooperate, make friends, etc
I ride a ladies style comfort hybrid bike. And yes i'm a guy. No sore bum, no sore wrists. It's the best bike I've ever owned. I love it. And I loved this video. One of the best TedX talks I've seen.
I love this story and have watched this video several times. It’s an inspiration that I want to take with me on my own biking adventures. Thank you Lee!
Thank you Lee, your understanding and definition of winning is inspiring. We live in a zero sum world and your view gives an alternative that is missing from so much of our worldview. I know in my life the simple act of riding a bicycle has altered my world and redefined my life. Thank you for sharing this incredible moment in time.
I'm struggling to comprehend how 13 people gave this talk a thumbs down. What a delightful talk, what a wonderful and inspiring lady. From now on, I will aim to ride my bike 'more like a girl'
10 out of 10 Keep it short and sweet, Voice was full of passion, Connection to life, Tastefully executed, See the love, The strength to overcome, Power of the mind, Team work, Teaching the children TO BE, Another adventure awaits. THANKS.
There is something very beautiful with your voice and grace. But I still wonder how it would be for the first two guys whose efforts had been demeaned into humour.
The Tesco thing cracked me up, because I had the same experience after a one week hiking and camping trip through the highlands once. Also in Ullapool, so probably even the same Tesco. It was pretty overwhelming. ;)
Hope to ride from Waterloo (Ontario, Canada) to Halifax (Nova Scotia, Canada) summer 2021. Hope to entice my then almost 14 y.o. son to join me. (He rode 800 km with me summer 2019). Yes, that cup of tea is sublime. (Secret of life: Be. Hear. Now. IMHO.) See you on the road - but FTLOG SEE ME FIRST! Peace!
She calls this riding like a girl?! I'm a 45 year old man who rides around town on a folding e-bike with a matching set of blue shopping panniers. I RIDE LIKE A GIRL!!!! 😀
damm that was tedious. Imagine being on a bike ride through the Highlands, loving the scenery , nature and you catch up with her, and she wants to talk Religion, Politics, and Feminism, which I suspect she knows nothing about anything about all 3, damm she must even bore the Animals. Scotland has great cyclists, Hoy, Beaumont, Jenny Graham and they put this wet dishrag up.
"Ride Like a Girl" ...sorry, you insulted half your audience, including me. I gave you ten seconds (which is ten seconds too many) and moved on. Bye...

Way to go Mark! Keep it up
Hope you're still riding strong mark, you've a great country for riding bikes!
Fix your typo then should be than!
You're no less of a man for not being sporty as a youth. I love bookish men myself, and I think lots of people do. 💜

I melted with admiration when she picked that bike up and slung it on her shoulder. She's the kind of hero/mentor all us girls/women need
What’s the problem? A good bike doesn’t weigh much, maybe 10-12 kg.
Don't bring gender/girl power into this. You have two arms and two legs just do it and keep your feministic conversations to yourself.

How did she do in The Great Divide race you should get it back on to talk about that
I love self-supported races; they're races for uncompetitive people (like me)
Brilliant.

Winning isnt always coming in 1st

Riding like a girl but only if you are Scottish and hard as nails lol
