A Jewish guy rocking out about his friend,Jesus Christ, with Black gospel singers....amazing.
Lord and Savior
Why even bring up race? How about it’s just a great song...guilty conscience?
@@mr.smithgnrsmith7808 Settle down Ken
He was never religious. Just a commercial venture.
He felt Jesus was more commercial than Abraham or Moses. . That’s all.
You wore the right T-shirt today for this one!
I love your shirt¡☺☮☮
I like the song he shows how stupid religious people are when I die I'm going to the one that's the best so many other religions out there I think he's going to the lol
for real
😆😆😆 !!
🙏
I never get tired of this song, and that says a lot! Is there any wonder why this was a hit?
Another favorite!!! This song brought a tender memory to my heart, Jay. This song was popular when I was 11-12 years old. My neighbor, who I called Gramma was a 60+ year old woman who I was very close to. I will say that she is the only true Christian I have ever known. She lived her daily life through her beliefs.... with peace, love, non-judgment, compassion and helping others. She didn't watch tv nor did she listen to radio. One day I was at her house and we were outside on this beautiful, sunny day picking weeds out of her yard. I had my portable radio with me... the radio that took 4-D size batteries. (old) lol This song came on and I asked her if she would listen to it with me. She said yes and she did. It was the most beautiful moment I have ever personally experienced. By the end of the song, there was a 60+ year old, gray-haired woman and a gawky 11-12 year old holding hands and dancing in her front yard. It was so spontaneous and perfect. This song has always been on my playlist.... as it still is today. Thanks for your reaction, Jay. It was nice to say hello to Gramma. Take care and be well. Peace.
cnatview ...what a fabulous story....love it!!
😁 beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing that story. ❤️
Cindy Knudson that’s absolutely wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing it, really encouraging.
Cnatview, what a wonderful story and memory. Thanks for sharing. 🤗
Wow beautiful memory. Made me cry 💓
I'm an atheist, and there is no denying the greatness and feel-good vibe of this tune.
Norman Greenbaum has said that no matter what, this song always brings him a minimum of $50,000 year...so he knows that no matter what else goes on in his life, he has that $50,000 base. Must be nice.
Who cares 😢😅
This was a huge hit around 1969/1970 and was always on the radio.
How about the best one hit wonder from 1981! Mickey by Toni Basil!
ua-cam.com/video/0aqLwHP4y6Q/v-deo.html
It was a hit because we were still seeing body bags coming off the ramps of military transport planes and being received on the Tarmac by grieving families. The Vietnam war spawned many musical anthems. This is another classic one.
This was number 1 in the uk the day I was born in 1970 👍
I went to a club in Northern California in 2016 and the band’s surprise special guest was Norman Greenbaum, now looking like Santa carrying a cane. They did this song, complete with background singers, and it was PHENOMENAL! So fun! We danced and danced😄
This song is a classic, never gets old. I'm glad you listened to it.
Got to agree & I’m an atheist. But as happy, spiritual songs go, I choose “One Love” by Marley & “Love is All” by Ronnie Dio
ua-cam.com/video/RW9OYsMn4ds/v-deo.html
kerryn67 I love anything from Bob Marley and that one is a beauty. Also three little birds. 💖💖☮️
Turd Ferguson
“Love is All” is my second fav song of all time. It makes me so happy!
My number one song is “Somebody to Love” by Queen. No explanation required ✌️🇦🇺🙃
Another powerful song from the sixties, Barry Mcguire's "Eve of Destruction."
Ooh, I was just listening to that one a while ago and HOO BOY, are the comments _interesting_ in 2020...
This was my daddy's favorite, he could NOT dance but he would dance like a train in motion to this song. Every time I hear it I think of him, he's been gone 13 years. I wish I had a video of him dancing. Thanks for this one! (He would be 91, bet he's dancin' now.)
Another childhood song. Brilliant. Just makes me want to dance.
I AM dancing! And its only 7.15 am (UK) Sarah x
Love this song 💕💕
How about the best one hit wonder of them all?
Mickey by Toni Basil! Do it!
ua-cam.com/video/0aqLwHP4y6Q/v-deo.html
kerryn67 That song came out when I was in high school. I disliked it then and still do. 😂😂☹️
Sarah Morgan You go, girl!!! 👍
There were no rules to music back then you could sing about anything play anything. That's what made this time so great
Perfect shirt for this reaction.
I was just listening to this song yesterday. It was in the movie "Apollo 13".
YES! This song most definitely fits the mood of Apollo 13. Great song Great Movie!!
One of my favorite scenes in one of my favorite all-time movies! I lived thru Apollo 13 for real with my father, an Air Force guy who actually knew all the Astronauts personally. I love the irony of that scene with the Astronauts doing a TV show that nobody back on Earth was actually watching...only to have the entire planet glued to their TVs only a few hours later.
@@larrywt656 Wow! That's cool. I could imagine what that must have been like. I remember after the 2nd Moon Mission the viewing ratings went down quite a bit. Then the "The Problem" started on Apollo 13 it became widely popular. The conspiracy nuts even go as far as to say it was all done on purpose for the TV ratings.
@@RayRay-zt7bj 🎥😁
@@larrywt656 Wow that's so awesome!🚀🌠Thanks for sharing! Thank your Dad for his service🇺🇸🎗
I was laughing Jay when your moving to the beat of the music it looks like the hands are moving on your tshirt Great video this video brings back memories
😅
I saw that, too!
I was thinking the same thing about his praying hands t-shirt
Yes, those hands were moving!!
Jesus was grooving to the beat!!!
A great one hit wonder, Come on Eileen by Dexy and the Midnight Runners.
With the original video,please!
Great song but dunno if you're suggesting that was a one hit wonder??🤔 if it was then you are soooo wrong they had many
'Geno' was another hit in England for Dexy's. I'm sure they had a couple of others that were modest hits at least in the U.K.
Praise God...thank you for your son, Jesus! He died for me and I belong to Him! He calls me His own❤️
The chorus of this song is literally engraved on my parents headstone 😔
We played this in the Catholic Church during my dad’s funeral service.
YES! Spirit in the Sky. It was a great one hit wonder in 69. Awesome song! Thanks for your reaction.
A great one hit wonder it's "Venus - Shocking Blue"
Shocking blue ? They weren´t a "one hit wonder"! Never marry a railroad man was another great song by them and there are more.
God yes, put some Mariska in front of your eyes, young man.
@@miguelbravo2066 Both those songs were hits in Australia. No one hit wonders at all.
I have to say; when you are listening and moving; those prayer hands on your shirt are really praying 🙏🏻
“Hey There Lonely Girl”-Eddie Holman, and “Please Come To Boston”-Dave Loggins. Both great one hit wonders! Your reactions are helping me through 2020! Keep up the good work✌️
Yes to both of these!
We drove our parents crazy asking them to play this over and over!
One of a kind song, so many distinctive things about it. That fuzz guitar, that rhythm track, the echo part, the lyrics and the strange offset in phrasing where the chords seem to change on the wrong beat.
I know, right? But he totally makes it work. Amazing!
I told my kids this was the song I wanted to be played at my funeral. they said "Yea whatever mom" LOL
M Dunn 😂😂😂
Me too!
It was played at my wife's cousin's funeral, but the preacher made them turn down the part where he says "I'm not a sinner, I've never sinned."
@@rickyprice7597 wow really Okay I am not sure what to say. I am sorry for your family's loss
@@rickyprice7597 I can understand a preacher, wanting to do that. Still, I always thought it would be kind of different to have it played at a funeral.
This song never sounds dated. One of my all time favorites.
Love, love, love this song!!!!
Makes me wanna get up and move!!!
When evangelizing to New Agers, slip this one in.
We were going thru not only the space age from 1957 onward, but also a spiritual revolution within the hippie movement, it was awesome!
This song came out of the "Jesus movement" which actually made Christianity popular for a while! Some other cool songs from this era include Put Your Hand in the Hand by Ocean, Jesus is Just Alright by the Doobie Brothers, Turn, Turn, Turn by the Byrds, and the quintessential Joy to the World by Three Dog Night.
He was inspired by an American Indian image of worship on a greeting card.
I’ve always loved this song! I’m thankful this was his one and only big hit that I know of anyway! I grew up listening to this (I’m in my early 20’s). Thanks to my parents playing music from the 50s onwards when I was young, I can’t remember the first time I heard some of the older songs they’ve just always been there.
Asked for this last week, thank you!
Waiting for "Signs" by the "Five Man Electrical Band"
Perfect shirt for this song...
Man, I sang along with this every time it came on the radio.
they would be a two hit wonder
@@xomthood damn now I have to check out the song list, I can only remember Signs....my bad!
And if that's for My. Hood here in Oregon, I love it, it's been beautiful to me for 63 years....
@@johngammon7891 second hit is "Absolutely Right", the Mt Hood refers to USS Mt Hood, but I'm also a fan of the peak and the brewery there at Government Camp. ua-cam.com/video/Qxa_I_GGe8k/v-deo.html
I love this song!
Yes we had alot of cruising to this song !!
Damn Jayvee, you're hitting a lot of the classics today. Love those distorted guitars.
One of the grooviest songs ever recorded! I absolutely LOVE the guitar work in this song.
Awesome song thank you ! The famous "beep beep beep" effect you hear is a riff the session guitarist came up with he does it thru his pick-ups while bending the string- the guitar player for the Cars Elliot Easten pays tribute to Norman by doing that "beep beep beep " effect in one of their great songs - bless you!
Here's a couple one hit wonders "Rings" by Cymarron and "Ride Captain Ride" by Blues Image
I second Ride Captain Ride!
How about “Love is All” by Ronnie Dio at the Butterfly Ball?
ua-cam.com/video/RW9OYsMn4ds/v-deo.html
Ride Captin Ride ~ immortal
I bought the 45 of "Rings" when I was in 5th or 6th grade. And "Ride Captain Ride" is an incredible song.
YAY!! This is one of my lullabies that my dad would put us kids to bed.
One of those songs you can sing and dance to 😂
"Ma Belle Ami" by The Tee Set from 1970
I bought the 45 of that song in 5th or 6th grade. The B-Side, "Angels Coming In the Holy Night" was a pretty rocking song, if I remember correctly.
Norman was born in Malden, Ma. I was born & grew up in Cambridge, Ma., which is right across the Charles River from Boston. But, I did live live in Malden when I got married. I lived there for 8 years. Norman Greenbaum now lives in Petaluma, Ca.
Here’s another good one....By David Essex....Rock On or something like that. I think you’ll like that one too! 😘😁. You are doing such a fantastic job!!!
Not a one hit wonder - had 2 songs in the Billboard 100 and 2 others just outside. In the UK he had 2 no. 1 hits as well as many others. Still a great song though 😉
This is my ringtone - always loved this song! ♥♥♥
“Gonna go to the place that’s the best.” Just went there!
Sherwood S 😂😂😂
John. Dispensary?? Pot store??
@Sherwood S 😁😁😁 EXACTLY my thought!!!
Sarah Dixon jeez, what a bunch of druggies😂! At my age it’s more the john 🚽 then the Marijuana Market!
*Supernatural* used this for an important ep about the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse. Badass.
Really good 🎵
Was gonna go to bed..... It's 11.30 pm here in the UK...... But as soon as I saw this I had to watch.......Great song......whoever your "Spirit in the Sky" is. ❤️
Ok I been wanting this say this for while. I am 72 a 60's child. Think of a whole generation of us to loved all the music you are finding. Do you think there room in our hearts for hate? then or now.
CLASSIC one-hit wonder! So glad you liked it! This song goes well with Jesus Is Just Alright by the Doobie Brothers (who had many hits, of course). I’m loving One Hit Wonder Wednesdays!
Absolutely JIJAWM by The Doobies!
And Put Your Hand in the Hand by Ocean. Haven't seen anyone react to that one yet.
I absolutely LOVE how these young Christian Men and Women of JESUS CHRIST seem to totally enjoy this sensational song !! I will NEVER, EVER forget this song. Heard it when it first came out. BRING BACK 1970 !!!!
My favorite 60's song ever! Believer or not, this song gets you groovin'.
I love the tee shirt-it goes with this song!
1969, and NORMAN GREENBAUM'S, "SPIRIT IN THE SKY". WAS A BIG HIT, AND DEFINITELY A TOP ONE HIT WONDER.... THE GUITAR WAS RIFF WITHOUT QUESTION LED THE WAY... RIGHT ON THE HEELS OF "JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR " BROADWAY PLAY WHICH YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT WITH SOME OUTSTANDING SONGS AND VOICES... YOU CAN SEE THAT HERE ON UA-cam... GREAT REACTION JAYVEE...🤪✌
Hi from UK, I asked for this a while ago, it's a great a one time hit , i loved it in 1969 , love it now , by your reaction you did as well 🤩🤗😊😃.
Great fairground music.
The hands on your shirt seem to flex as you rock to the beat.
Love, love, love this song! One of my ALL TIME FAVORITES! 💖🙏💖🙏🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
My young brother, you amaze me! This song is 51 years old and it really is hard for me to believe anyone on this planet has never heard this classic! It warms my heart to watch your reaction that so many of us shared so long ago, peace and love!!!
Yes Yes Great Song 🌟🥰🎶🥰🌟💋🤗🤗🤗🤗
I was seven years old when this song came out and I used to love to sing and dance to it!
One hit wonder “Beach Baby”. By First Class. Also Flip, flop and Fly. By Downschild Blues Band.
Beach Baby was just a blatant ripoff of the Beach Boys, but was a fun song.
FINALLY!!! Someone reacted to this song!!! Good job, Jayvee TV!!!
Hey Jay. Jamel sent me here. Thanks for reacting to this classic hit. I recommended it to Andy and Alex, but no luck there. I'd call this psychedelic folk gospel funk (is that even a thing, lol). Whatever it is, it's awesome.
The first time I heard this was by Doctor and the Medics, later I found out it's a cover. I love both and can not really choose which one is better, I guess it depends on my mood on the day.
Arguably, the greatest one-hit wonder of them all, except for, maybe,Terry Jacks.
Yes! "Seasons in the Sun" I used to confuse Terry Jacks with Sammy Johns "Chevy Van"
Sherwood S Was that Norman?? Geez, that song brings back memories.... 💖
@Sherwood S That's it! Another one hit wonder. As a kid, it was awkward hearing it, since the family vehicle was a Chevy Van.
Sherwood S Was that Lobo?? 💖
@Ronald Elkins. I have this at #2 OHW all time. Reason is that In the Year 2525 was #1 in both the US and the UK. And Z&E never had another song in the top 100 chart. And it's the only one to achieve that ignominy.
Nice t-shirt J !
I hope you will get to react to the one hit wonder by Hurricane Smith called Oh Babe, What would You Say. It was a top 5 hit in the early 70's and a surprise hit! A surprise hit is a song that is not expected to be a hit.
C’mon man! The best one hit wonder of them all was “Mickey” by Toni Basil!
ua-cam.com/video/0aqLwHP4y6Q/v-deo.html
Love to watch you!!!
One of my favorite songs of all time. And I’m an atheist. 😀
Same here. I Can Only Imagine is a Christian song that I love. I don't have to agree with it, just enjoy it.
@@abc456f There are a bunch of songs that fit in this category that I really like regardless of their religious content. "Put Your Hand in the Hand" by Ocean, Presence of the Lord by Blind Faith, Oh Happy Day by the Edwin Hawkins Singers, and, of course, The Doobie Brothers' Jesus is Just All Right With Me.
All are aces in my book.
@@lreadlResurrected Anything by the Staple Singers too!
I always thought they should've extended that guitar groove, at the end. It was really starting to cook.

Great song 👍
Yeah, one of the greatest rock riffs of all time! Just amazing sound and arrangement! 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 ❤️✌🏻✌🏻❤️
What a wonderful song that sadly I had forgotten, this is great to dance and sing along with. I love the guitar riffs, it maybe a one hit wonder but its brilliant. Thank you for bringing back some great memories to mind Jayvee, you're a lovely young man with so much love for music and music from all genres and decades, bless you sweetheart. Thank you Mary you’re always so sweet
@@JayveeTV thank you for replying and saying that I'm sweet, my husband and son agree with you but I believe in loving and caring not anything negative. I have been housebound and bedridden for a couple of years now, but I'm happy and so well cared for and spend my time making others as happy as I can. You are doing the same with your channel and that is so wonderful. Thank you for all the pleasure and joy you bring into my world. God bless you, love hugs and peace Mary-Ellen
Takes me back to High school. another one hit wonder for that year was Little Green Bag by George Baker.
Dan .Turner I thought I was the only one who remembered Little Green Bag, even my mother loved it.👍
@@Russ-gy7tx I can remember sophomore mid term exams with 1 hour between test riding in a friends 65 barracuda listening to little green bag and Sprite in the Sky.
Dan .Turner that’s Bitchen! Or Boss👊
Loved this song, for 51 years:) I learned to dance to this, and I still play it frequently
Apparently he was listening to some songs on the radio and said "I can do better than that " and wrote this song in 15 minutes!
One hit wonder Classic!!! They still play this 60’s hit on the radio today 🎶💕
Always liked the song, had no clue who sang it. Could this be considered early Christian Rock? If so, a lot of current groups should take note: this is how it’s done.
Interesting that a classic Christian rock song was written and performed by a Jewish fellow.
Yes, a great way to do it. Solid underpinnings to the message without being preachy or goofy.
It may well be the first Christian rock song.
@@SPAMDAGGER22 Messianic Judaism gained followers in 1967 so other Jewish songwriters could have written other songs still not attributed to them.
Actually a lot of Jewish American songwriters have penned secular Christian holiday classics. Irving Berlin wrote some greats.
Whenever I hear this song, it reminds me of my nan playing this on full volume.
This great song still in my head all these years later ! Best wishes from Scotland.
My Mom has a cassette tape that she recorded with ONLY this song. She played it in her car on road trips. She was a musician all her life - part of our family income came from the weekly gigs she played piano at. It’s such a cool sounding song. Also used on Apollo 13 space flight and to wake shuttle and ISS crews. That rhythm....could listen to it over and over. ❤️
I got you, Bro!!! I gotta go watch!!! BRB
This was played at my sister-in-law’s funeral. She passed at 47 and loved this song!!!
I have a 2 hit wonder.... The Knack. Good Girls Dont and My Sharona.
I did my sharona last week wednesday
What about the Knack remake of Heartbeat (why do you miss when my baby kisses me)?
@@JayveeTV check out 'My Bologna' if you can find it. Weird Al, of course.
I was about 8 or 9 years old, when this played on the radio. Me and my girlfriend's danced a little line dance to it, wow talk about a blast to the past
I think you would enjoy watching it live too. Just real simple ... the man singing! As always, love you
I am old enough that I was around when this song came out to hear it for the 1st time. Great song. We loved it. Just at the time of Peace and Love. Make Love not War. This was one of those songs of the times. Incense and Peppermints. Green Tambourine. Great days....
Head bopping. feet tapping...I LOVE IT.
This was in the charts in the uk when I was a teenager .Still one of my all time favourites xxxxxxxxxxxxx
this song is still cool 50 years later! also from the same time with a similar spiritual feel, a song called Lay Down by Melanie (with The Edwin Hawkins Singers). she wrote it about being at Woodstock, there's a great live performance of it on youtube
This is a groovy, spiritual rock song and it always was very popular! And Norman Greenbaum is a Jewish man. Norman Greenbaum saw Porter Wagoner (Dolly Parton's old singing partner) doing a gospel song (like: Be Careful of Stones You Might Throw) and Norman thought: "hey, I think I can do a song like that" or something to that effect. So he wrote: "Spirit In The Sky". Porter Wagoner is the person that Dolly Parton wrote the song "I Will Always Love You" for when Dolly decided to go solo. Both Whitney Houston & Celion Dion requested that they be allowed to sing Dolly's song and Dolly said: "Why not. I'm getting the residual checks".
So glad you like it. All that has to happen to bring a smile to my face is for Spirit in the Sky to play. Ultimate feel good song!
Never get tired of this song. This is another blast the radio when you're driving song
I once bought an album in the 99cents bin because this song was on it-some mixed artist promo or something-it is still as awesome as it was in the 70's
absolutely a favorite, thank you for the Gordon Lightfoot reaction video Jay!!!
My pleasure!!
my favorite song by Gordon! love your review -
Love this song! Ive always told my kids I wanted played at my funeral! Picture it... everyone sad and crying and then this comes on and everyone starts head bobbing and having a good time. Thats how I want it!

YAY!!! Thank you so much! Some of the best guitar distortion ever played and recorded! Stellar riff!!!
Spirit in the Sky really is a great song. In retrospect, I think it seems odd that I've only seen that one photo of the singer, Norman Greenbaum. I love your videos!
