The B actually means that there has been a blade added by a warehouse employee, as all Veritas seconds are sold with a blade. The little sticker with an S indicates it a seconds product. (I work there)
Got a 30% off - almost $100 off on a manufacturers second Veritas bevel up jointer. I couldn’t find any blemishes at all until I stupidly etched a thin shallow groove into the sole because I hadn’t brushed off all the grit from a board. But it’s a jointer so no big deal. You have to be quick on the draw during the sale. Get familiar with their product line up beforehand so you can add to cart immediately. If you have to read the product description the popular items are likely already gone by the time you’re done. Have an account set up with all your shipping details and have your browser set up to quick load credit card details.
I second your recommendations. I've bought 2 planes from their seconds sale. The tote on one of them appears to have a knot which may be unacceptable for their inspection process. I still haven't found the blemish on the second plane.
BEFORE YOU ASK: It was marked down by $27 or 15%. ---------- A first look at a "Manufacturing Second" block plane from Lee Valley. Once a year (I think it is once year) Lee Valley has an online sale of Manufacturing Seconds. It's mostly various Veritas planes, but also some other items. You will find out about it if you are on the Lee Valley email list. They advertise that the tools are fully functional, but have some sort of a cosmetic blemish. This year I signed up for the sale and bought a low angle block plane. In this video I am unboxing it and looking it over.
I Love Lee Valley. They are an awesome company. I never worry about buying anything from Lee Valley. They stand behind everything they sell. I've never ever been dissatisfied with Lee Valley customer service either.
i scored a low angle jack, i have not been able to find a blemish anywhere except for a tiny scratch on one side and the big bonus was the pmv11 iron in the box!
About a 20 per cent discount off full retail. I got a low angle jack plane on Oct 27, it arrived two days later and I couldn't find an obvious or serious blemish on it. You sure do have to act fast and be ready. I had another item in my "cart" and it disappeared before I could pay for it.
Good score Art! I bagged the #7 Bench Plane and had the RH-Shooting plane in my cart and paid for before finding out I didn’t get it when the receipt arrived. Still stoked with what I ended up with, my “blemish” was a tiny fingernail-like divot on the top/cast side. Flawless otherwise😄 LV FTW!
Because the majority of my viewers are US based and I'm Canada so I pay in CAD$. Because the discount on one model plane is probably not the same discount as a different plane. (read through the comments and you will see that confirmed by someone who bought a different product at the same.) Because by the time I released the video the sale was over, and the prices next year will not be the same.
Huh? Since when do they have those Stanley-style gripping areas? There used to be three divots for individual fingers. Nice haul anyway, one of my favorite planes.
I like Lee Valley but their closures of numerous stores in Ontario doesn’t sit well with me…. especially as regards their timing; the Scarborough store was closed on December 24th 2021. Not nice at all.
No one likes to lose a Lee Valley store, but I don't think we can blame them for someone else raising the lease price. Also I googled a bit and found that this was known since February, so it's not like it was sprung on the staff at the last minute. They are reportedly looking for a new location.
@@Wordsnwood I understand what you’re saying but losing the physical store isn’t beneficial to me as a customer at all… also, the Christmas Eve Day closure is an extremely poor decision plain and simple… it looks as though they learned something from this Pandemic… that on line sales are excellent for them. I for one certainly hope they do open another location. Either way, I like your videos.

Thanks for the explanation!

Even better discount that I got... Makes sense on the bigger/more-expensive ones.

Just came up in my feed. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe, happy, warm and healthy, from Henrico County Virginia

Definitely a class operation.
Nice score! Nothing wrong with it lol!
I can understand why they call it a "second", but there sure is nothing functionally wrong!
I'd certainly buy that plane! I own a Veritas/ Lee Valley scrub plane, good stuff!
i scored a low angle jack, i have not been able to find a blemish anywhere except for a tiny scratch on one side and the big bonus was the pmv11 iron in the box!
One blip of jbweld and some sanding and you dont even feel it anymore
Yup, but I doubt I'll bother.
If you get serious, try Lie Nielsen.

Yeah I went into the sale not even 100% sure I wanted to buy something, so I was worried it would disappear while I was arguing with myself!
Looks like a good plane. Just Curious, what kind of discount?
$27 -- 15%
Art how much did you pay for and what was the retail price
I got it for 15% off. retail is currently CAD$185

This sale does not disappoint.
I bought a low-angle jointer last year from Lee Valley - I never did figure out why it was considered a blemish. It was perfect!
That might drive me bonkers trying to find it...
Pretty
Why did you not mention the original price compared to the discounted price?
Because the majority of my viewers are US based and I'm Canada so I pay in CAD$.

Awesome!!!
Nice score Art! I would have been all over that one too. :-)
You were buying sight unseen, so there was the whole wondering as to what it would look like.
Score, man!
It's a great deal only if you're going to use it
True for whatever you buy.
Huh? Since when do they have those Stanley-style gripping areas? There used to be three divots for individual fingers. Nice haul anyway, one of my favorite planes.
Possibly new this year - the manual still shows the three finger divots
Nice score art! I'm regretting not getting the large shoulder plane ☹ maybe next time!
I had second thoughts about making the video, as it was challenging enough to get this one, so I'm NOT sure I *want* more people competing! 😆
