  • Hope you enjoy this overnight at my new bushcraft camp that I made by the bog. Testing out the debris shelter for the first time and hoping no boogie-man gets me, as my dog seems determined there's something lurking in the woods....

Wow...how could she get hate mail over these videos. She should ignore them cause they’re baseless. Their is something really wrong with those folks. Maybe cause they’re really jealous of her genuine love that radiates from all her videos. She lives on love and their weak minds devolve around being hateful. I bet they don’t like coffee either. Their life must be shallow.

Maisie sees her responsibility as protecting you. She instinctively understands that she is supposed to protect you. She doesn’t understand that you have your gun to protect you and that you are the wilderness guru. All she knows is I need to protect Mom.
I think MREs are greatly misunderstood. They can be very yummy when you’re hungry. They are packed wit calories to keep you alive and well in the great outdoors.
You are a great Dog Mom.
I love the shelter. It would be cool to have your string of lights to put in your shelter. Thank you for sharing your wilderness experience with us.💖

    Hi Brooke,
As always ... love the show!
But I have to say it's good that you camp out with your dog even though, she gets your imagination rolling when she's barking at things in the woods, and though it can be annoying sometimes. She is the guardian, the protector doing her thing by checking her perimeter and surroundings. It's also good that you camp out with her, because while she's barking in the direction that she's barking at... She wards off, and warns predators to stay away by all the Ruckus she's causing. And that is a good thing for sure! Even though it can be nerve-wracking... especially camping alone at night.
I myself have a weenie dog that does perimeter checks, just before I leave for work. She'll walk around my car at night just to ensure my safety from any predators that might be lurking around in the desert. And then she stands guard, while I'm loading my car with things I need for my job. Don't get me wrong, I'm doing the same for her as well. Because of where I live we have coyotes amongst other creatures that prey on small animals and such. I take her with me, and drop her off to my mom and dad's house so they can take care of her while I'm at work, but I think it's the other way around...Lol ! My point being is... that because I leave at night, she watches over me from predators, and alerts me when my back is turned. There are times where she's suspicious, and she'll do her own perimeter check, without a command. It's just something that they do, to alert us and protect us, and our surroundings. So I think it's pretty cool that you camp out with your dog. I'm sure you know this. But I'm just saying she's good protection for you!
Thanks for teaching me how to make a debris shelter, that's very cool! Definitely inspirational! Again thanks for sharing!
    Callie from California.☺

I used to do wilderness survival and now, I get to "camp" once or twice a year with my scouts when they are at a BSA campground close enough to my neurosurgeon and hospital "just in case." These videos have been both a blessing and a curse… they bring me joy but also sadness reminding me of what I lost… but I ca t stop, watching them… I love both Brooke and Dave… I also recently discovered that their son, Mick, has his own channel now too and I binge watched all,of his videos,,, he is quite the story teller!!! Brook, I watch Maize when she gripes at you and her voice and expressions sound more of the anxious type. When she wanders towards the noises in the woods she has her tail up and curled and her voice is more angry to the point that she is trying to warn other creatures to stay away. I think that she is actually trying to protect you. Don't be surprised in the future when some critter doesn't accept her warning and it decides to infringe upon Maize's turf. She will probably attack it. She is just trying to protect the one she loves. Awesome Solo! I love the way you decorated the doorway with the lights. It gives it a homey cabin feel. Thanks for the share.

Hey Brook!! Great video! FYI, MREs come with a pouch warmer, they react to water and takes very little water, makes the food hot enough that you have to blow on it to eat it, using fire to warm the pouch can make the food taste like plastic. Great job on the shelter, I'm trying to find a spot to do something like that but life is busy. Take care!!!!

My friend is a plumber, and even in the winter he has to dig ditches. I asked him how he stays warm. He says for his feet that they make these bean bag devices. And once you squeeze them that they heat up. He then puts them into his boots and that they last for hours. He showed me one after he worked and it was still warm. He says that they last for hours. I noticed she had that warning bark going at first. They’ll do that high pitch with enemies. Could be either deer , cat, or another dog or rabbit. It was definitely seen. I love how this pup takes her cues from mom, and even mimics her. And that was some mighty fine moochin goin on when the beef stick came out. 😝 Special vids these are!!!

Dam straight. Deer and turkeys come out and feed like mad before a snow storm. When the woods fall silent you got a predator lurking.

I enjoyed the video. Last year I built a good sized debris shelter just to see how much time and effort it took and get a cover pic for the resource directory. I loved it with leaf debris fingertips-to-armpit depth. Stayed dry through 3 solid days of soaking rain. I heated it with hot rocks. Cozy. Hope yours works as well. Steve

I do love the music. Never eat where you sleep. The dog's barking at big foot, bears, wolves, lions, dog man, goat man, hu man, interdimensional beings, space aliens, and wild hogs. Where is your 357sig Glock? I would want an extra, big, dog.

Awesome video Brooke. May I ask what the sleeping pad was that you used on this trip and if you think it would be suitable for someone 70 years young? It was wonderful to hear the frog and all the other signs of spring. If you don't mind though would you please send some of that my way. I still seem to be getting buried under snow and cold temps, at least for the foreseeable future. Guess that's what I get for living in northern Ontario. Maysie was as adorable as ever. 🐸
