Man, Majora's Mask has the best OST of any Zelda game. Every I hear this song (and Song Of Healing, and the Astral Observatory) I am moved to tears, don't even know why.
The entire song provokes a sensation similar to a 'Final Desperate Stand.' It's the final day, the clock is counting down the few precious minutes you have left, you either stand or fall with the land and Majora is waiting. It is waiting. For You.

Honestly Majora's Mask is one of my favourite games ever. I'm not sure why but there is just this feeling I get from the game that just fits with me as a a person, it might just be the erie darkness of the game...
I agree. it's not as plotcentric as ocarina of time, there's more of an emphasis on gameplay, but that's what I love about it. They let the gameplay do the talking, and it manages to convey just as much if not more character development than ocarina
+Ron Michaels No I don't think that's it... it just feels more... personal... more hopeless... In Ocarina of Time, the big villain at the end of the day was a man. A mortal man trying to take over a kingdom. In Majora's Mask, the big villain is a creepy, mysterious mask with untold power. A force of nature bent on destroying the world. In Ocarina of Time, you would speak to side characters and perform side quests solely for the reward you'd get for doing it. With Majora's Mask having more sidequests than dungeons and with the characters all different ways of responding to the inevitable, just makes it more personal to me.
The suspension-resolution during 2:27-2:35 is very reminiscent of the end of Requiem of Spirit in Ocarina of Time in the sense that it changes from minor to major.
Even though I know that the Oath to Order is a song used to summon the giants and get them to stop the moon from crashing into Termina as well as to stop the Skull Kid's madness and to restore *order* to the world, hence the name, I also see the song as a plea from the giants, in which they are begging the Skull Kid to stop. When I hear the song, I feel as if the giants would say to the Skull Kid "Stop! Just please stop! We are begging you to just stop! We know that this isn't who you are, and we know that this just isn't you! We are begging you to stop! Please!" The giants would actually be quite right in saying that the horrible things that the Skull Kid did wasn't who he was, because the Skull Kid wasn't actually doing any of those things himself and of his own free will; the power of the mask that he wore was making him do all of those things, so in a sense, it was the mask that was doing all of those horrible deeds throughout the game and not him.
Been playing through Ocarina of Time recently and was on a Zelda music binge when I felt an itch in my memory. There was this one incredible Oath to Order remix with pipe organ segments that sent a chill down my spine. I looked for extended versions of the song to no avail. So many variations exist now, but I knew the video I was looking for was around 7 minutes long. Sorted the search results to fit that and still couldn't find the one I was looking for. Running out of options I figured sorting by view count might do the trick. And there this was, not the first result but high enough, the thumbnail art hit my eyes like an old friend. I'm so glad I found it again.
Amazing. Love the organ piece on this, a job well done on this piece of art! These are the type of things that are like Da Vinci but of music instead of paintings, it is less known but beautiful and powerful.
Oath to order (To me) is a song of acceptance. You have to go back in time to not die by the moon, but each of those times, you undid the deeds. Just because swamps are being poisoned and mountain life is being frozen to death, You have to stop the moon by accepting that you can't save those species, But who gave you the permission to do that? In a nutshell, This game represents accepting that You can't do certain things, You can't stop certain things, You can't really be Link in real life. I would listen to this if a Asteriod/Moon actually fell in my time. I would just ACCEPT it and move on..
I was just thinking that if my house burned down (something I worry about often because I have anxiety, even though it's not likely to happen), this is a song I would want to sing. I know it has no lyrics, but would make a good funeral dirge.
When you said, " But it would make a good funeral dirge.", I saw lots of people say that. The way that Oath to Orders tune feels like.. Your journey is about to be over, And its so hard to ACCEPT that.. (Sorry for ending two comments the same way, but i guess i'm making points..)
Acceptance is the key to letting go of fear. Fear, anger, jealousy and grief come from a fundamental unwillingness, unreadiness or inability to *accept* what is happening.

Looking at the official art again, I've noticed an anomaly that shows how different Majora's Mask is than all other Zelda games. Traditionally, the words "The Legend of Zelda" are written in a red cover on the title. Majora's Mask bucks this trend, and instead goes with purple to match the mask. It's a visual cue to show that this game will be very different from previous Zeldas. And it was, in a wonderful way.
I like to imagine the Happy Mask Salesman is at his organ playing this in the clock tower as the townspeople of Clock Town huddle together humming along to the organs notes as the moon crashes down with Link looking down at them in desperation and fear rising as he’s calling forth the giants to help save them all from their demise

It's called a Picardy cadence. Often used in baroque pieces. The usage here refers to the organ pieces by Bach as does the whole piece generally.
@@Nhnhnfk I think that part was inspired by the "Toccata and Fugue" by Bach, so, yeah.
