    THIS EPISODE:
St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 is the oldest and most famous in Louisina. It was opened in 1789, replacing the city's older St. Peter Cemetery (no longer in existence) as the main burial ground when the city was redesigned after a fire in 1788. It is 8 blocks from the Mississippi River, on the north side of Basin Street, one block beyond the inland border of the French Quarter. It has been in continuous use since its foundation.
Effective March 1, 2015, the Roman Catholic Diocese of New Orleans, which owns and manages this cemetery, has closed it to the general public, ostensibly because of the rise in vandalism there. However, the diocese has recently changed their policy, and was then charging tour companies for access. At the time of this episode, the cemetery has been completely shut down to all, due to the COVID crisis.
    THIS CHANNEL:
    _________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....
    ....and some with tragic endings.

That is amazing. I'm an author (vampires, what else). I had the first book set partially in St. Louis 1, the McCall tomb back near the back. I included a story with the characters finding a still-smoking altar on the top of one of the graves. That story is based on a real life incident that happened to me and my husband on a walk through there before they shut the cemeteries down, sometime around 1997. We were walking and just looking at the graves and came around a corner. I caught a motion going away and when we looked down, there was an altar with the candle, rum, and cigar. We had evidently disturbed someone in mid-ritual. We apologized to the spirits and kept walking. Evidently the caretaker knew this was going on because he thanked us for being considerate. That story is in the book and takes place the night of Katrina. As I said, I love that cemetery and, quite frankly, every cemetery I come across.

Tbh, the way you did this Ron was perfection itself. One of the reasons you had to have a tour guide was that too many tourists were being attacked and mugged. There were projects overlooking and tourists could be watched and quickly mugged and the attackers quickly disappeared amongst the graves. I was last here maybe 2 years before Katrina and it was getting more and more tumbledown. It looks much worse now.
You did an amazing job and your narration was perfect as ever.

I have actually been to Marie Laveau's grave at St. Louis Cemetery about 12 or so years ago my counterpart in the New Orleans office took me. It is a really something in person it is an altar and many gift stores in New Orleans have altars for her inside too.

This video is hauntingly beautiful. I felt like I could see the way it was way back when. This is so much different than a tour. The lack of flowers makes me think many have been forgotten.
Nicholas Cage's story is so interesting. Thank you for letting us remember and honor those who have gone before us.

I've been putting off watching this episode. I am born and raised in NOLA. Raised in the French Quarter and 9th Ward. I am very persnickety about my city and how it is represented. She's been through so much over her 300 years. Ron, you did this right. Many of my family members are interred at St Louis #1. It's sacred ground. Thank you for being so sensitive.

Great Drone footage, How did Nicholas Cage get admitted to an Archdiocesan cemetery? He must've paid some big bucks but the odd looking structure doesn't fit in with the rest of the cemetery. I guess anyone who can afford to pay can get in there.

Probably the BEST tour of this cemetery I have ever seen. Well done my friend, you consistently exceed my expectations. I hope that one day you will do a video on the exquisite and historic cemetery in Cleveland, Lakeview Cemetery. I am sure you would enjoy it and do it justice.
