Good job on showing and telling the historical impact of the Berlin Wall. What I would have loved to see and hear is the history behind Adolf Dassler (adidas) and Rudolf Dassler (Puma) and the reason why the brothers split and became competitors. Another interesting aspect is the fact that cable TV gave people in West Germany a front-row seat to American culture through shows like Yo! MTV Raps. The impact that Hip Hop has had on people all over the world can’t be denied!
@@Joe-eg7ml every person I've spoken to in Berlin speaks english at least at a decent level. ofc the older people are not really as responsive with tourist or foreigners but I'd say everyone from the age of I guess 35 and lower will be able to speak english at a good level and they've always been nice to me. coming from a 20 yr old.
13.55 i got goosebumps the track matches with the hooligans scene. Ps: finally a video with no nike and jordans in it! Please make video for other brands as well! 👍🏻
love the series and hearing about different countries perspective on shoes. A mix of nostalgia and flexing seems to be the common thread between all of us. One Love.
I cant wait to see all the thumbs down votes and butthurt snowflake comments when they learn Phil Knight stole the design to the Cortez from Onitsuka Tiger.
I'm a huge sneakerhead, and I refuse to wear the Nike Cortez...nothing but Onitsuka for me! Same goes with Converse. Everyone and their mother has Chuck's...one of the best selling shoes of all time...but give me a clean pair of Purcell's anyday! Heck, I still rock Troops!
If you read the autobiography of Phil Knight, you'd know he and Bill Bowerman designed the Cortez under the tiger brand. They own the design. Not to mention onitsuka tried to cut Phil off after expanding the tiger shoe business in the states.
Whats the point of going Netlfix? What what would Netflix even add? It would mean less people have access to this amazing work as you have yo pay for Netflix.
ayumelove Sry... didn’t think things through 😅 I was just awed by the quality of this entire series, the kind you can rarely associate with being just a “UA-cam video”
Now Adidas with Yeezy's and Pharell's,Nike with Airmax and React's, Jordan's with Retro's...but still Puma fighting them of with just a Puma suede!simple, basic and yet still a good looking shoe.and relatively the cheapest amongst them..
Honestly as an old dude I got to give total respect to the German guys who worried about how their shoes look during a soccer fight after a game man. Total respect to that and that's honestly the coolest thing I've seen in a long time in regards to sneaker culture cuz it's real. It's like I'm going to beat the snot out of your ass for soccer or football or whatever they call it but my kicks are going to look good while I'm doing it. 😎. "it was an excellent shoe to fight in.". That's the most real line I've ever heard in a sneaker video. Nowadays you going to have people in their Jordans or Yeezys and stuff going to hold up hold up let me change my shoes then we going to scrap. And yes I was a teenager when Yo MTV Raps! was live.
I'm so glad to see this ,basically this is my childhood. European cream i hope you do the same but from other countries and brands like Italia whit diadora and lotto England with Reebok France with le coq sportif Denmark with hummel and Filand with Karhu.
the first time I saw PUMA SUEDE is when I saw for the first time one video of my most favorite band koRn wearing that shoes and I immediately like those shoes and now both koRn and PUMA SUEDE are my no.1 favorite things on my list!!
Was damn nice 2 hear about the history of Adidas N Puma not everything needs to be about Jordan/Nike would love 2 hear about the history of Reebok N Asics down the line
I can definitely identify with the East Berlin taste in athletic silhouettes. I think it’s from coming up in the hardcore scene here in Brisbane. Punks like to pretend we’re above fashion/trends but the sneaker culture in hardcore music is undeniable IMO. I’d love to see it represented a little more tbh.
ok, but that is just a complete different accent, therefore their pronunciation goes into another dimension.. Now I kinda want to rock a pair of AdeeDhas.
great Video, but they got one thing wrong Adidas sneakers were a status symbol in east Germany too. If a person had family in west Germany they could send things to east Germany, that you couldn't get in east Germany. Thats why some people had Adidas sneakers even in east Germany. Of course were Adidas sneaker in east Germany the coolest shoes you could get.
As a person from the eastern block i used to be very annoyed by the way every god damn american says it sooo wrong , felt kinda happy some1 from Pittsbourgh saying it the right way educating the others
I have two pairs of adidas and I didn't really like them because I have a narrow feet and adidas shoes tend to be bulky. I prefer puma to adidas but now I shop for Nike only (Converse too)
some German brands could made culture in U.S, but one U.S brands had to paid something to made a culture on their own country, thanks to MJ who left adidas, and made nike grown.
Finally, a video of sneaker but not about Jordan or Nike
the king of cool exactly that’s what I liked the most, I kind of like Jordan’s but I love adidas shoes more than Nike
I Love Adidas a lot and I was born in Russia and in Russia you see a lot of Adidas and vans shoes
Yes yes yes
Adidas is German so duh I guess 🤷♂️
It’s still the shoes, I’m still flexing!
Good job on showing and telling the historical impact of the Berlin Wall.

Indeed. and most of Europe is still racist towards black people.
Dre Graham I’d love to hear about your experiences. I didn’t encounter much there, I lived there for years

@Pretty Ahki yeerrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Are they mean if you can speak German. Wife went there from Sweden and couldn't speak German and got by with English.

I would love to see Complex does a video about Onitsuka Tiger/Asics history!

Again you guys did an awesome job! Would love to see my hometown, Amsterdam in the next episode! 🇳🇱
Excellent video!! Very inspiring....
Americans don’t give Adidas & Puma their props they deserve.
Kudos Complex

The ZX might be the most underrated sneaker of all time in US
This video just made me like adidas superstars and puma Clyde’s and the suedes

Amazing!!!
This got deep only puma gas stations only adidas grocery stores. Talk about a house divided.
I just picked up the Ralph Sampson mids. They are super dope on foot. The leather is crazy buttery, like crazy buttery.

Rekuzza and wiz Khalifa right?
Whattt? Didn‘t know that!
@@codetastisch We have big US military bases in Germany so there's a fairly big american population over here.

Welty gotta be lovin this episode
Honestly didn’t know adidas was supposed to be pronounced like that until now
what minute is this on? did not catch it
As a German it sounds so weird how Americans pronounce Adidas. But that for we also pronounce Nike different than Americans.
bean 3:37
ok, but that is just a complete different accent, therefore their pronunciation goes into another dimension..
Now I kinda want to rock a pair of AdeeDhas.

Can anyone ID the pair of sneakers he’s holding in his hands at 12:57??? I found a vintage pair at home that looks exactly like this.
