Grew up poor AF but one time my grandma worked at the mall and came through with the Jordan 5s on the day they released. That is still one of the best days of my life...lol Had never felt so good as the 1st time stepping through the halls of my middle school w/ the newest J's. Still gives me chills
I'm so glad to live in a time period where culture is finally being recognized as something very special. Plus the beauty and sentiment captured on camera, especially in the sole origins Tokyo. Y'all really killed the delivery of what it means to buy something from there and because of it my friends understand my connection. Thank you Complex for creating an amazing series and telling powerful stories and for passing on culture!
@mikael Working hard doesn't just mean working at a job. Could be in school, or whatever else you're doing. Think about the bigger picture long term. It's not rocket science. Work hard in school at a young age, get good grades, go to a respected university, and a high paying job will come where you'll be able to afford almost everything you want if you work hard enough. I'm only 17, I made over 15k profit just by reselling sneakers and streetwear in less than two years. I have nearly straight A's and soon enough I'll be in a good college where I'll keep grinding, get internships, and so on. Most people don't have the work ethic to get rich. It's a trade off. Depends what you want do you just wanna do nothing and relax or do you wanna work countless hours and make bank, and become successful.
Austin Thomas he literally said it in the interview. If you can wear something you like, why not? He alluded it to sneakers but I’m almost certain that’s his fashion mantra.
I wish these videos were about the design process/ business plan/ actual metrics, rather than just some fluff meant to build the hype for these brands further.
What a great time in the sneaker world. I remember when it was always such a hunt for these sneakers and you’d see people flex on ISS Forums. Great vid Complex 🙌🏾
That butchery-style sneaker store really reminded me of the CONVENI store in Japan. CONVENI looks like a convenient store but it sells fashion clothes. Mad connection that popped up in my head but its cool to see someone of inspired by that unique story
I’m in love with the tall skinny woman who had the Jordan birthday cake. Love her look, love her attitude and perspective, love her style. And she’s obviously model beautiful. Can’t help but adore her.
revisited this video because it's just golden. This, this is what real sneaker culture is and what it represents. Being from New York, this one really hit me.
Theres only four new york staples in footwear, puma suedes, adidas shelltoes, air force ones and timberlands, honourable mentions ill give it to air max ones, fila tennis and wallys
K. Block absolutely my friend and my favorites of these that i only rock are timberlands air max and wallos and new balance 574 and 996 was getting rocked in bx and queens for some time by people also.
aikens todd word british walkers was poppin but only in the 80s and i feel like wallys was/is more of a status symbol, cuz wu made em hot for the 90s again, they had a longer lifespan than walkers and of course, cant go wrong with some new bals but i feel like it was more of a shoe for boosters, not on some fly drug dealer shit that the whole nyc wore like all the other kicks on the list
@@0mgskillz96 As far as the NB's I'm from the Bx/Harlem and the hustlers was on them NB's heavy when there was $ in the streets. I agree with you with the Britishers though. There was too many kicks to choose from back in the days Ellesses, Avias, Sacouneys, etc, etc... These youngins got the game fucked up trying to look like what everyone else is looking like that shit is beyond lame.
dudes complaining about people calling him weird when they actually have a point. if you feel the need to buy a new turntable every time you put a new record on, wouldn't that be weird, too? #insecure
Finally someone that says what I been saying. Our generation made this pop...we started this movement! When we born sneakers were still mostly for athletes or strictly the gym. Not for everyday wear..lol The amount of stuff we started won't be duplicated by any other generation...
I doubled up on the bacons. Hands down one of the best sneakers of all time and a personal grail. Grateful for everyone going for dunks instead nowadays.
I *LOVE* the intense music they used , made it seem as if the content was *WORLD CHANGING* as the underdog persevered and rised above it all ! Lol , made it feel *waaaaaaaaaaaaaay* more serious than it actually is !
I feel like when he said "I wanted to make a shoe that you aren't confused about wearing or just praise It on a shelf" he was referring to shoes that existed post creation of his shoe such as yeezys
THANK YOU!!! I'm a young white European but for some reason I just feel everything you showed in this video. I love the 80'-now era and I love New York (even though I was born in '00 and have never been outside of Europe.)
I glad he found meaning of life through a sneaker and being fresh. Are you kidding me? Enlightenment of the soul found in sneakers. Didn't know you could get to Shambala via the low road.
I love that he says "at the end of the day they're just sneakers." I agree man I love getting new kicks and chase after many but I wear ever single pair
"Imagine bieng able to wear your favourite piece of art everyday" best quote from this vid
I was trying to explain this to my wife last night.

aw we gotta love grandma what a moving story!
Yeah, you had a great grandmammy!

Who else can’t afford “Fresh”
Use not being able to afford something as motivation to work harder until one day you can.
Just buy wat is aesthetically pleasing and comfortable to u man. Look on poshmark, eBay, asos, and any sales that brands u like have going on.

tbh you can keep used sneakers "fresh" for a really long time by just cleaning them every once in a while and treating them like you'd treat your kids
FREDOINTHECUTTHATSASCARYSIGHT P you must not have any style
The series looks promising. Looking forward to the next one.
Only sneaker missing is the ari menthol 10
Alexander Handzhiev Ari just released a whole entire video on them recently. Awesome watch, check it out if you haven’t already
@@Grim_NY i saw it but this man deserves more respect
Alexander Handzhiev *BiGGEST of FACTS ! ! ! !*
Alexander Handzhiev so true
DJ Clark Kent think he's fresh. He AIN'T fresh. I put an new pair of sneakers on every two steps. That's fresh 💯
Happy birthday m8
5:50 She turned heads. Especially the guy who wasn’t in line.
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣👀👀👀👀👀👀
Yeeteth was wondering if anyone else saw that
YOOO i wanted to see if anybody else caught that LMAO.
The power of the leggings lol 😂
“Why you you here? Because you saw me being fresh!”
Lmao please
Please bring these back complex
Someone wanna tell me why DJ Clark Kent hasn’t updated his style since 2007?
Austin Thomas he literally said it in the interview. If you can wear something you like, why not? He alluded it to sneakers but I’m almost certain that’s his fashion mantra.
Chino Nguyen , exactly key 🔑 word is thinks!!!
Stick to the classics fuck trends!
Best video I have watched in a VERY long time.
Can y'all come to union city california and or Hayward, there's a lot of folk and youth that would appreciate!
You obviously don't watch videos of importance or originality then.
Amazing Series Thank you!
I wish these videos were about the design process/ business plan/ actual metrics, rather than just some fluff meant to build the hype for these brands further.
every once in a while Complex still puts out some good content.
0:47 This five seconds made me cry with joy
This is a 21 minute Nike and Supreme ad
A vast majority of the most sought after collabs in sneaker history are Nike/Jordan. I wouldn't expect less
yeah tbh the fact that they didnt mention the 80s b-boy sneaker culture (adidas superstars etc) is kinda weak
Definitely and Reebok was a huge in 80s and early to mid 90s
It's NY bro, what do you want?
What a great time in the sneaker world. I remember when it was always such a hunt for these sneakers and you’d see people flex on ISS Forums. Great vid Complex 🙌🏾
Love this series! What happened to the uncensored version?
That butchery-style sneaker store really reminded me of the CONVENI store in Japan. CONVENI looks like a convenient store but it sells fashion clothes. Mad connection that popped up in my head but its cool to see someone of inspired by that unique story
Amazing mini-documentary! 💯 looking forward to the next one! COMPLEX
Am I the only one craving for more of SOLE ORIGINS?!
Ain't nothing better than getting a fresh pair of kicks. Regardless if AF1, Jordans or Air Maxes. Gives me a good feeling.
This wasn’t long enough. I need more f this
Found myself rewatching this film for the third time since it was released… sofa king great!!!!
Love it. Reminds me of why I fell in love with sneakers and great stories from the glory days.
This was 🔥 and inspirational!!!!!
Thank you complex ❤️🐐
Man, this took me back to memory lane to when I was a young buck in the 80s
Best show ever
I’m in love with the tall skinny woman who had the Jordan birthday cake. Love her look, love her attitude and perspective, love her style. And she’s obviously model beautiful. Can’t help but adore her.
Is this strictly a UA-cam series? I feel like this is beautifully created/scripted and designed that it deserves TV viewing!
This is such great video. I absolutely love what Complex stands for and the content they put out. Keep up the good work Complex staff!
The benefit of staying in your own world creates dreams and visions that come true.
Keep up the videos these are what real sneaker collectors want to see.
Amazing!!!! So proud to see our women heard
watching this wearing my side b sneakers. love it

Man i like this type of mini documentary...
This background music gonna make me cry bruh I love sneakers.

You gotta take it back to 80's if you mentioned wallys you can't forget about British Walkers and I still to this day rock my NB 996.
aikens todd word british walkers was poppin but only in the 80s and i feel like wallys was/is more of a status symbol, cuz wu made em hot for the 90s again, they had a longer lifespan than walkers and of course, cant go wrong with some new bals but i feel like it was more of a shoe for boosters, not on some fly drug dealer shit that the whole nyc wore like all the other kicks on the list

dudes complaining about people calling him weird when they actually have a point.

Yeah right and Pretty sweet changed my life. Those two videos are literally engrained in my DNA.
I feel like when he said "I wanted to make a shoe that you aren't confused about wearing or just praise It on a shelf" he was referring to shoes that existed post creation of his shoe such as yeezys

There’s more to LIFE than being FRESH.

RIP Clark Kent. You were our Superman.
God bless you Russ for this one
I love that he says "at the end of the day they're just sneakers." I agree man I love getting new kicks and chase after many but I wear ever single pair
They need a DC episode.

12:56 I went to school with the artist that painted that mural wow mad cool
Awesome Im a compulsive fashion fanatic being fresh is like a Heroin fix to me
Not a fan of SB Dunks but the Staple Pigeon Dunk were fire.
Complex litt
I ain't about being fresh, I'm about being rich. If I want my clothes to be fresh, it's called the washing machine son.
casualsuede something a true white person would say
This is amazing
Want to look and be fresh? 2 words Clark- Gym Membership

I’m wondering why no Stan Smith in the video.
