Absolute LEGEND for commissioning this; even the less glamorous discoveries are worth exploring to the fullest! The idea of replaying an abridged version of each dungeon to reclaim your items and upgrades one by one, taking on every boss and miniboss along the way is a VERY interesting one - even if that's not what this is, it's a fantastic idea for the basis of a mod! It's also an interesting idea that could be explored in a Ganon's Castle context; everything is stripped away from you, and you have to earn them back through abridged versions of each dungeon before you can progress to the final showdown. Could have been really cool to see something like that play out in this game or another!
He got called out for selling a build of the Third Quest mod he used to be a developer on for $1k to someone who had to take out credit to afford it (read: someone who was in no state to spend that kinda money). Pretty quickly after that he deactivated, because he was too shitty to own up to anything so he just ran from backlash. Dude already made a hell of a name for himself in the past as a notoriously shitty person, so it was no surprise.

This is interesting...I definitely think that Master Quest is most of what Ura Zelda would have been (3DS Ocarina even tends to refer to MQ stuff as 'Ura' internally) but pretty cool to see other things they were experimenting with/using to test things.
It actually a proto "hero" mode where all the dungeon layout would be completely different (reason for map/compass) and not just adding obstacles (master quest). The hooks are what the game uses when entering a loading zone. It my understanding that the DD and the online BBS would alter the game on the fly... I think that how code injection was SUPPOSED to work, making the game dynamic - see any TAS Triforce any % run.
Did the Gigaleak contain any of the Zelda 64 textures before compression? It would be interesting to see what the wall/background textures looked like before they were made so blurry.
These are some really cool findings! Hopefully you guys can work with the devs for Ship of Harkinian so they can fully restore these on the OOT PC Port! 👍

were the treasure chest contents improvised or is that actually what the data said they contained? it seems like a mini-boss to get the item followed by the boss where you use the item is a good idea and then they give you a compass or something instead
What about ZethN64's semi-recent rom hack? Not the old one, but his one from like last year, which restored Master Quest to it's Ura Form (ie; harder). He doesn't include any of the boss rush though.

It really is a myth to say the Wii U wasn’t modern when it launched. The PS4 and XBOX One didn’t exist in 2012. The graphics were better than its contemporaries, namely, the XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3, while the CPU was the same PowerPC architecture that they all used. Though it didn’t have all the cores and such of the PS3 it was easily capable of better graphics and performance in just about any multi platform game. It was a lot closer to Switch performance than people who rejected Wii U and accepted Switch are willing to admit… since it reveals that they were manipulated by public sentiment.

The Wii U’s GPU technology was four years newer than the PS3 with the XBOX 360 being even older. That was a HUGE technological difference for the mid 2000s. Four years was literally the difference between the original XBOX and the XBOX 360. Yes, that level of performance was still closer to XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3, but XBOX One and PlayStation 4 didn’t exist yet. The Wii U still had better graphics tech than either of its contemporaries in 2012. The reason some multiplatform titles suffered is because of sloppy ports bottlenecked by CPU performance. When developed as a Wii U title in the first place, performance was much better. Heck, the Wii U port of Breath of the Wild even outperformed Switch at launch since it spent the majority of its development being optimized for Wii U (patches eventually improved Switch performance).

As far as mobile hardware goes it was relatively modern when Switch launched in early 2017 since it was based on 2015/2016 mobile hardware and it’s contemporaries were based on PC hardware that was already years old when they launched in 2013. That said, generations leapfrog in performance almost yearly in the mobile space putting it pretty far behind the latest iPad or whatever for the time... but it’s not like Sony or Microsoft were using Apple silicon.
