I have to say I believe you are spot on. While I love the comfort and the look of these I feel the Amp Flex is a gimmick. I tuck my tongue under and feel no difference. But otherwise they fit me great and have been protective. Before I forget, I do like the tendon guard a lot.

Thanks for posting this video as it made my choice much easier in July when I was torn between the Mach and M5 Pro. I really loved the all black look of the Machs, but the amp flex feature and the 5% weight reduction just couldn't convince me or justify spending an additional $300.00. I finally settled on the M5 Pros fitted with the LS Pulse Titanium runner and I love them. Been skating with these puppies for the last 8 weeks and they feel like my old 1S skates from 2016. Great support and very responsive with every stride. Since I do not lace up to the top; leaving the top 2 eyelets open, the amp flex feature is something I wouldn't have been able to fully utilize because of my lacing style.

So, told you I would get back to you on my new skate escapade...I literally tried on EVERYTHING. The only thing I could not try on was the FT4...which bummed me out a bit...but whatever.
    I tried:
    1) TACKS AS-V (strange feeling footbed and replacement tongue lugs I could feel on the top of my foot...annoying)
    2) HYPERLITES Fit 1(tongue dug into inner ankle bones, had little to no tendon guard flex and were strangely uncomfortable as it gave me a weird pinch point at the back of my ankles, yet... roomy)...I know, weird...
    3) M5 PRO Fit 1 (great fit and felt great right out of the box and really liked the flex of the tendon guard )
    4) 3X PRO (felt better than the Hyperlites...probably because of the felt vs the Hyperlite-shaped tongue...but did not feel quite right yet as they felt really overly stiff as well...toe box was too roomy and I prefer a closer fit up there)
    5) MACH (felt amazingly comfortable at a Fit 1 as I am usually a D width in just about every skate...so this was surprising as well. They didnt have the exact size I needed either in that...more on that later)
    6) RIBCOR 100K (felt really comfortable as well out of the box...but they didn't have the right size for me...kind of bummed me out...but I digress)...
Conclusion: I had to go to the Scottsdale shop which was a bit further drive just to try on the MACH and Ribcor and FT4 in my size...but am glad I drove the extra half hour. Between all of them the MACH were by far the most comfortable skate I've put my foot into...right out of the box...big toe just feathers the end of the toe cap, width was at Fit 1, alarmingly pleasing to my foot, the tendon guard flex feels great on initial push off...it really allows my foot and ankle to move the way I prefer, the pro liner and pro padding foam were a step up in comfort factor over the M5 PRO as well...I was going to buy the M5 PRO...but realized something...in the last several years...sizing has changed...I am able to very comfortably I might add able to wear a Bauer size 6...which is an man-card-carrying, destroying INTERMEDIATE skate now... WTH??!! Well, I can tell you that as soon as I knew that data point...I opted for the MACHs. I hit up a public skate session after buying them...but before having them baked...and my feet...never really ached at all...a FIRST...as soon as the session was over...I went back to the pro shop and had em baked...HOLY. HELL! Simply amazeballs. Saved enough money that I snagged a pair of pro stock mitts for the upcoming season. He shoots he SCORES!! Cheers!!
    $859.99 (intermediate) USD vs. $1100.00

Wow what a shop! Well done. As-v I went to get this weekend and man I just couldn’t. I hated them. So bulky and couldn’t get the weird feelings on my feet to go away. I opted out and unfortunately won’t be reviewing them. The Mach was amazing out of the box. The fit and comfort was second to none. And it’s a traditional feeling skate. From that perspective you can’t argue you need the skate to feel good. Bauer did well there. The amp I think it’s a gimmick but doesn’t mean the skate doesn’t perform.
Glad you got one that works and feels amazing. Cheers on the update

I could lace the hyperlites all the way to the top and have them tight and still get more forward flex, that being said I was getting ankle discomfort and went with the machs purely for comfort. I’ve been in Vapor Skates since 2009 in my Varsity High School days. Looking at getting some new wheels, do you have trouble switching between supreme and vapor skates? I had trouble adjusting and am back in my Vapor’s for that same reason is pitch. I felt I was on my heels in the Machs. If something works extremely well and your comfortable I would stay. @@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews Finally i had an opportunity to spend few hours on ice with Supreme M5 pro and I can share my thoughts, comparing them with old school vapor x600 budget skates with LS5 blades. I can tell you that... there is not so much difference as I would expected. Maybe, because I couldn’t get used to TI blades and I have switched them back to my LS5??? of course M5 have better ankle support, and are stiffer but overall performance gain is not so big, at least at my level. What really matters is much better puck protection. I was hit 2 times in front through tongue and of course I could feel it but I could also continue my shift. In x600, after such a hit, I would spend rest of a game on bench ( I like to skate with tongue out) Another big difference is forward flex which was quite consistent during the game. I didn’t have to retighten them which was quite common in case of x600. I also like asymmetric toe box an really recommend baking in pro shop and not in home owen. In my case, baking made huge difference because, out of the box, these skates were very narrow at toe and now, they are almost as comfortable as my 6 years old x600 :) so I really recommend these skates but please keep in mind that these skates will not make you a better skater out of the box ;) sorry for my grammar but English is not my native language.

The real question is whether this skate offers improved forward flexion over the prior Ultrasonics. I've been skating in the Machs since around the July 4th weekend and I love them. I'm able to drop down to 3/4" ROH, and even that feels sharp. I really fly in these skates. Have had the Hyperlites as well and I could barely use a 5/8 ROH in those, though that might've been more of a fitment issue.
Bottom line, if you're the type of person that needs to drop an eyelet in the Hyperlite, eg, then you're just in the wrong boot. I think the Mach's are a better option in that case, as I struggled with the same thing (dropping an eyelet vs not). And in beer league, no less, where that sort of a thing is a total energy leak. Maybe a dozen skaters in the world can get away with dropping an eyelet and not suffer performance degradation. I'm not one of them and never will be.

The worst part about the MACH skates (and the Supreme line) in my opinion is the flexible tendon guard. It makes the skate unstable for me and unusable in game... it's more of a practice skate if you ask me. I can skate better in my 10 year old Vapor 40s without even tying them up because the fixed tendon guard gives me way more stability when changing direction quickly. Put a Mach and M5-Pro on each foot.... felt like what I'm used to, a stiff skate with higher ankle support. Both felt good in the boot, but the stiffer tongue in the Mach sold me. I didnt no, going for as-v pro next just waiting for them to arrive at the stores. The way the amp flex is designed is to basically crimp on top of itself from what i can tell, so I could see you would really have to be on top of your boot to do so due to the stiffness. I’m sure Bauer skates are decent, but they don’t half have a lot of gimmicks. The strips across the tongue that they claim give more power is a perfect example. Then there is the injected facings, which worked really well for getting a tight lacing. But my Trues don’t need to have tight laces, so the traditional eyelets are just as good. In fact they are better because they allow the skate to provide a better foot wrap. They have fancy names for the toe caps, with grandiose claims about their effectiveness, but there is a nasty join inside the skate between the toe cap and the shell which gave me bunions. They boast about the carbon curve shell and heat moulding, but in reality they hardly move during heat moulding. I reckon the truth is that they have few real innovations, most of the features are marketing nonsense. My Bauer S2 Pro customs were very durable, I’m not convinced my Trues are. But the Trues provide me with far more ankle support, so my tight turns are better, and for reasons I don’t understand, the overall performance is far higher. Edge drills that were hard in the Bauers are easy in the Trues. It might be because they provide a better fit to the foot, with less distance between opposing facings. Plus I can wear stock Trues, they are incredibly thermoformable, and far more comfortable than stock Bauers. I hate my Bauer 2.9X Vapor inlines. They are painful. I’m not saying True skates are better, just that they work better for me. Bauer in my opinion need to innovate.

Bauer skates are designed to be stream lined. They feel light; small, and agile. Ccm, and true feel bulky and heavy to me. But Bauer needs to exploit that as opposed to putting gimmicks on their skates that do nothing. The amp flex was a silly gimmick that added cost to the top end skate that wasn’t needed. Of all the things Bauer has done on skates. Injected eyelets, amp flex: tongue inserts, tendon inserts, speed plates, etc the injected eyelets are 1/20 that make sense and work

@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews I weighed my TF9 and Bauer 2S Pro custom without insoles, the TF9 weighs 60g more, but it has a new blade, the Bauer has a nearly exhausted blade, so in reality they have almost the same weight. My TF9 is far more agile, on my feet. I was really disappointed in my Bauers when I moved to TF9, the improvement in edge control, stability and agility shocked me. For example I can do really nice powerpulls in the Trues, I can’t in the Bauers, and in the Trues I can get much deeper edges doing crossrolls. I don’t think this is true (no pun intended) for everyone, maybe not for most people. I think what I am seeing is that I have feet that don’t suit Bauers, even customs. I have ducks feet with very narrow leg bones. Stock Bauers are painful, I hate my 2.9X inlines. The customs are the same shape as stock skates, just sized to each foot in 1/4 size increments, with a bit of heat+pressure moulding. I think they filled the ankle of my skate with foam padding to bulk it out, which means there is inadequate support, hence they lack control and precision. In other words, I’m not contradicting your review, your Bauers may well be fantastic on your feet. But the performance depends on the feet inside, as well as the skating ability. As for gimmicks, you can’t blame them, they have to sell product, and if a Turbotongue, Gigashell and Megaeyelets help sales, so be it.
