    I've invested in a T-4 and I love it. Quick additional tip: I've replicated the magnet-feature of the bigger Tormeks by just throwing a small magnet into the water trough and secured it with an identical magnet on the underside. That way the steel particles get pulled off the stone faster, accumulate in one spot and don't float around. Just make sure you put the magnet in a spot in the trough where it doesn't interfere with the stone.

      TinMan Bushcraft i just taped a magnet on the outside. Particals collect on the inside in a ‘blob’ where the magnet is.

      TinMan Bushcraft I just got my new T-4 and did the exact same thing with some super strong mini magnets I had sitting around my shop. Worked like a charm! I was curious if other had done the same mod but was certain other T-4 owners had as it’s so obvious and effective. I was going to go with magnetic tape as well but used what I had laying around. I bet having the tape on the outside would make cleanup easier though.

      Just a slight modification on the magnet setup. I simply put a washer inside the trough, a rare earth magnet on the outside and it works like a charm. This means that you have a disposable inside collector, I simply let it all settle then tip out the clear water and can wipe off the iron particles with a tissue or whatever. Replace the washer if it gets too rusty..minimal cost, maximum function. No tape needed.

      Im just afraid its gunna pull out particles out of my samurai swords. Dont wanna risk that. Plus im not allowrd to play with magnets cus its dangerous.

    Dear Sirs,
    I don’t do any wood turning, just normal planing, chisels and occasionally leather knife sharpening.
    If I were to invest in a Tormek sharpening system, which setup would I be better to invest in?
    Yours truly,
    Ross morrow

      If you are not doing it professionally or lots of heavy use with it, the T4 is all you would need. If you have the extra money the T8 is just a little nicer.

    Can you sharpen bench planer blades in the T4 ?, the accessories of the T8 can be used in the T4 ?, I want to buy one and I have those doubts, the use will be for carpentry enthusiasts.

    • @TormekSharpening
      @TormekSharpening  5 років тому +1

      Yes, everything you can sharpen with the T-8, you can sharpen with the T-4. Worth to mention though is that since the grinding wheel is smaller on the T-4 it can be a bit tricky when sharpening planer blades and drill bits. I would recommened going for the T-8 for that kind of use, but the T-4 will also work.
      /Best regards
      Carl, Tormek

    Does the T-4 have the floating solid steel gearing in a smaller size as with the T-8, or is it a cheaper gearing system?

    • @TormekSharpening
      @TormekSharpening  2 роки тому +1

      Both machines are based on the same floating gearing! The Tormek T-8 does however have a zinc drive wheel and the drive wheel of the Tormek T-4 is plastic. Stay sharp!

      Hej Lizeth,
      no podemos dar una respuesta precisa a esa pregunta. Depende de la cantidad de herramientas que afile, de la presión que utilice, del material de las herramientas y de algunos otros factores. Lo que sí podemos decir: ¡Son duraderas!

    What jig do you need for lathe tool sharpening?
    Since various shapes and angles
    Can anyone recomend which jig?

    • @OOTurok
      @OOTurok 4 роки тому +1

      You need the tool rest shelf for sharpening scrapers
      the gouge jig for all gouges... roughing, bowl, Skewchigouge,
      & the skew jig for skew chisels.
      The different shapes & angles for different bowl gouge profiles, is achieved by adjusting the distance of the jig rest from the stone, & by how you mount the gouge in the jig.
      Same is true for othet jigs.

    Can it grind crystals and stones?

    • @TormekSharpening
      @TormekSharpening  2 роки тому +1

      Hej Illyrian Gamer, we have been asked this a few times over the years, but I can't give you an answer on that particular topic. We are more in metall sharpening. It would depend of the hardness of your gems. We have different grinding wheels out of aluminumoxide and silicon as diamond. Sorry, that I can't give you a better answer, this is not our expertise. / Wolfgang

    I'm a little concerned about the 30min duty cycle on tbe T4 model. I easily spend 45min or more sharpening everything in the house at one time. I'm concerned about over heating the T4 by accident.

    • @TormekSharpening
      @TormekSharpening  2 роки тому +2

      Hej James Connell, the 30 min cycle is meant on permanent max pressure. Sharpening a few hours isn't any problem due you don't applay the max pressure uninterruppted. It's no risc for your tasks as you mentioned it. /Wolfgang
