Wack, mans lost me running flat boxes on butts, why pass over the flat with a broad knife? Might as well coat it by hand at that point....machines tapers lmao
The blade over the top is usually to lose air bubbles, he probably had the mud over mixed.
I never liked boxing over butt joints either but towards the end I did start second coating with the 8 inch and doing the finish by hand.
Especially when I had as much do as in this video
