I enjoy cryptid stories. Folklore is interesting. I was close friends with a family from San Antonio, TX, when I was younger, and the father, a high school biology teacher and ex forest ranger, would tell some tall Texan tales. Not having any travel under my belt and being very young, I never knew when they were serious or joking. They loved yanking my chain, and I never had so much fun than when I was listening to that family's stories. In about 20 years of hiking, snowmobiling and skiing in the forests of northern Arizona, along the Mogollon rim and around Hawley Lake on the Apache Indian Reservation, I never experienced anything weird, and I hope I never do--I enjoy the forest too much. Still it is so fun and/or scary listening to the stories.

Interesting sad story of the Squonk Cliff. Have never heard this tale. Poor little squonks. I would talk kind if I met one. I talk to all animals. A squirrel just sit one time & listened to me yap on, so cute Lol. Loved the trail you were hiking. 🥰
Long ago at the since-faded Boy Scout camp, Camp Chiquetan in southern Lancaster County, I learned of Squonks in the woods. I'd lie awake in the tent, deep in the night, straining to hear their cries.

I've spent over 50 years hiking, camping, backpacking, and hunting the forests and Game Lands of PA. I've been an outdoor enthusiast since I was in the Boy Scouts. A lot of my outdoor pursuits were in North Eastern and North Central PA. I have NEVER heard of a Squonk, never saw one, same thing about Bigfoot. There is an Big Foot investigation club in PA, and they got upset with me when I Posted that there are no Big Foot Creatures in PA. Not only I never saw one, I never smelled one, never came across one or more, never saw any foot prints either.. I've camped solo for up to two weeks and taken longer backpacking jaunts solo in PA. The only animals I ever saw are indigenous to PA. Calk another one up to Folklore.
John Adams - how r u doing? I've only done the typical bible camp hiking when I was younger, lol - and used to live in Albrightsville PA, several miles from Pocono Raceway, I was always fascinated by "roughing it" in the woods but scared of bears. Honest question. I'd like to get your opinion on the Missing 411 series. You know the unexplained disappearances of people who were not far away from others but seem to vanish in daylight.

What? It looks like a regular farm pig, but it's slender, with longer uneven legs, instead of a pig face it has a sad cat face, baggy leathery wrinkled warty skin and possible webbed feet. At what point, beside it's general size, does the thing resemble a pig? Did someone see something and couldn't think of a critter to compare it to so they settled on size alone? They're aware they're ugly to humans and feels shame? But they're too dim to stop swimming in circles before they drown. The level of intelligence and stupidity in one animal is amazing. Back in those they didn't have a lot of entertainment, but they certainly had entertaining stories. Sometimes possibly fueled by old school, over 100 proof, hooch. This is fun video, but I have back over it to really enjoy the trail, and it is a nice one. Trying to wrap my head around a crying, skinny, warty baggy skinned pig with a sad cat face and web feet that liquefies when caught was a bit distracting.

The trail they leave is very clear for all to see at night
All to see at night
They come at night
In season, out of season
Oh, what's the difference when you don't know the reason
In one hand bread, the other a stone
The hunter enters the forest
All are not huntsmen who blow the huntsman's horn and by the look of this one
You've not got much to fear
Here I am, I'm very fierce and frightening
I come to match my skill to yours
Now listen here, listen to me, don't you run away now

Making noises my little furry friend would make
I'll trick him, then I'll kick him into my sack
You better watch out, you better watch out
I've got you, I've got you
You'll never get away
Walking home that night
The sack across my back the sound of sobbing on my shoulder
When suddenly it stopped
I opened up the sack, all that I had
A pool of bubbles and tears, just a pool of tears
Just a pool of tears
All in all you are a very dying race
Placing trust upon a cruel world
