Thank you sir, I'm diy by necessity, I've been listening, watching, and hands on for 8 years and still consider myself a lot to learn, I have a 2017 Ford fiesta sedan five speed.1.6 liter.( I just found your channel and subbed up)
Great video mine looked exactly like yours and the slip rings were clean as a whistle but it doesn’t matter is they do t make contact you save me some money I salute you sir and now follow.
Hi there, I just did an inspection on my Alternator on my 2008 f250, and looking at your unit tells me that that unit has been working to hard, which is probably why the negative brush is burned out probably due to bad weak grounding points along with a weak battery. I'd do a all point inspection of the charging system - all cables for corrosion, and do a battery analysis of the internal resistance, and try and clean up any points grounding the alternator to the system. WOW you can even see where a hole has burned into the slip ring...
Agreed. Brushes are normally the cause of failure and often you can buy loose brushes and solder them in.Bearing are always close to worn out at high mileage so replace them. Also, the free running pulley's often seize up and need replacing. They are so easy and cheap to fix properly there's no reason to skimp on repairing them.
I have weird question , im doing a project not related to a car its home project i want to know what car brand 12v altenotor that provides more amps than any other cars .
I have a 96 E350 RV. Every off season i store it with a solar charger on engine battery. Amost every spring Alt. Only puts out around 8 to 10 volts. Had original rebuilt twice and bought a rebuilt from Advance. Just fired it up and only showing 8 to 10 volts again. Any ideas?
Does the voltage climb when you rev the engine? You need to make sure the battery is at above 12v volts or higher before you start it and see if that makes a difference.
Are the toothbrushes supposed to be that much difference in size naturally? I know you said something may have gotten in there but would that cause it to be that much shorter? I have a 2012 focus titanium hatchback that has a new battery in it and it’s been in there for a couple months and now the car keeps dying and won’t start so I’m assuming it’s the alternator. I’d love to try this trick if I can access the rear of it if not I would have to pull it off completely and at that point I feel so I should just put a new alternator on.
@@737mechanic my 2010 2.3 first the battery light came off then on and both battery and alternator tested fine at AutoZone then a few days later the battery break and abs came on and off with diming headlights. What could that be

@@737mechanic yes Sir, and thank you again!
Thank you very much for helping ordinary DIYers. 👏🏼
Great video, friend - and a great, simple explanation on WHY these things crap out on Ford alternators.

Thanks for taking the time to instruct.
Yep. Looks like the same as my issue. I just wish you would have zoomed in on the slip rings.
A lot of the time, cleaning up the rings with emery paper does the job. Shiny and smooth, that''s all you need.
he only has one ring this thing is toast

Turn the commutator. Buy 2 carbon brushes.
Install new slip rings, they only cost around $10, plus brushes at about $8 ...
Every store want 250 or so for replacement so will attempt to fix if possable. Thanks
Mine had a couple cold solder joints on the rectifier. re-soldered and good as new.
Thank you im going to give it a try, on my 1991 ford escort. 1.9. I'll let you know how it tested
How did it go? 95 escort asking 😂

This could be a game changer for me.. I'll take a look at mine and see if this is a thing! Thank you
Im going to try this on my 95 ford. I'll update once its put back together.
Thank you very much
Good information!
thank you
Brushes aren’t the problem. It’s the slip ring. Those brushes would last another two years with a new slip.
If only it were easy to replace the slip rings. Not impossible but usually not worth the effort.
Can the regulator be changed on the vehicle?
Great description
Take the alternator off of the vehicle for testing. Many times it will test good when on the vehicle
Nice.

Toothbrushes?
What happens to them the other 10% of the time? 🤔
The regulator goes bad 8 percent of the time, the windings open 1 percent of the time, and the bearings fail 1 percent of the time. :)

Will that fix the whine replacing that part?
It's possible.
Where do get parts?
Thanks ✌️
slip ring is gone. this unit is trash.
Just buy a new alternator
If you think Paying up to 200 $ for a new alternator is a good idia you shouldn't be here Mr.$$$
