A semi-improvised jam performed solely on the Elektron Octatrack MkII.
For our spring collaboration, my Patreon community and I put together our first sample pack, a collection of loops and one-shots for both melodics and drums/percussion. It's an incredible collection of over 250 samples, and to celebrate its creation, we made songs using the samples as our starting point.
Here, I started by taking my favourite loops and one-shots from the sample pack and turning them into a collection of perfectly sized sections for the Octatrack. Once I imported them into the Octatrack, I started mangling and developed scenes, transitions, and extra parts to fill in all the gaps. The Octatrack is the perfect device for taking an 8-bar loop and figuring out a way to get from the beginning to the ending of a song.
Thanks for listening, and I hope you check out and use the sample pack for yourself.

5/4 for the WIN. That was INCREDIBLE!
Among all other videos screaming that Octatrack is hard to learn this recording made me want to master this box. Amazing work!
-I think I mainly bought my octa because of this video, and now I thank you :)
What an absolute banger!! Not to mention the boss level use of the Octatrack. Fantastic work as always.
Wow. Genius.
This video sells me the octatrack, awesome performance!
Agree!
This is the best thing ive heard in awhie.... and you did on an Octatrack is f*cking unbelievable. Heading to your patreon now!
I cried at the end. Something beautiful ⭐⭐⭐
This absolutely slaps, listened to it a few times on repeat! Nice.
the best!
Such a MONSTER unit ! - Looks like great fun , and a great live tool ! - Beautiful Outro - a real BANGER of a tune ,- 😉👌
beautyful, this machine looks like a hell of a learning curve. love your videos from montreal
outstanding performance, using all of the good stuff here.
Damn, Jay. You make me want to practice more more more more more.
It’s giving the slightest little bit of 15 Step by Radiohead minus the guitars and way more techno/despondent. Love the duality of this track!
Man, I love coming back to this for the occasional listen and observation. And I gotta say, that eyelash hair by your play/clear button kills me, cause that's where I always wind up finding them on my octatrack as well. XD
Great!))
the most inspiring octa video I've ever seen! Marvellous!
Haha this is dope. You've mastered the thing.
great stuff as always. i've been in a rut i need to get back on my digitone.
i like that
That is amazeballs, man!
Omg. This is insane
this is incredible
Nicely done, love hearing solo OT stuff.
Absolutely brilliant! Super inspiring!
Timeless instrument
Really brilliant!!
This is bloody epic.
very clean. impressive
Great as usual Jay! Epic track:
I wish horizontal crossfaders was used more for important groovebox/synth/sampler functions - the octa and how you perform with it explains Why
I would love to see the idea of scenes, and the crossfader, implemented on tons of grooveboxes, yeah. And thanks!
Very cool!
Komplete kontrol! It’s a beautiful thing to watch someone glide through the Octatrack making it sing and dance seemingly without effort! I know what it takes, I use 2 simultaneously ;) very rewarding Instrument and a pleasure to watch you rock it. Cheers!
Mate that was a solid performance
This is an OT masterclass.
The melodic sample sounds like the first preset of NI Playbox, no ? Bit what you did is wonderful !
Bella❤
great scene setup, samples are great!
Dope
Dude...I'm trying to justify buying a simpler sampler and you're wrecking me over here.
Simpler samplers are cool, too!
@@JayHosking ...you be honest, I just wanted to say "simpler sampler". If I can never build to the Octa, eventually I will break down and get an MV-1.
@@nerfytheclown Buy-Akai MPS X and forget for all sampers.
A tutorial on how Build and perform something like this from stems/samples will be immensely appreciated Brother 🙏🙏🙏
would you consider doing a breakdown video on how this track was assembled in the OT?
I usually reserve breakdowns for my Patreon and try to keep the channel mostly focused on songs/performance. I did do a sample prep/breakdown on this track in a Patreon livestream last week. I appreciate the interest, though!
@@JayHosking understandable, really appreciate the response
Inspiring. Still quite new to the OT here so great to see it in max use! Excellent vid and track!
this person is an immortal AI
AbracaDabra - Jay Hosking will Zapp`ya ! 🤤✌
Sorry , but im too funny for my hat ,- 😲👏
New $7 Patreon subscriber after watching that video. That was amazing!
Amazing! Welcome!
DOPE AS FCUK incredibe piece
Would this be overkill if I wanted one mainly just for percussion and beats/rhythmic suites?
I keep seeing it truly can do an entire track alone but I like sculpting my stuff in daw or mixer with my various synths so solely looking for an intricate device that can keep up with the flow, and of course allows me to upload my own samples to it.
This video stuck out for I like the capabilities this one specifically has. But I notice it’s used to build legit songs hence my question.
Fantastic video! This thing just looks insanely fun!!
Ho-Lee-Fuk! O_O!!!!
yeap amazing stuff ! as usual do you have your music on spotify ? just wondering
Yeah, I usually release a record on bandcamp first, and then it goes to spotify and other streaming services 6 months to a year later.
Faster!!!
I want one but 1200 on reverb currently ... I hate to sell my dirtywave or something to get it rather have both!
I'm actually more interested in the templates/scenes than individual samples. Do you have that available, ala EZBOT?
I make these scenes specifically for each song, so I don't have templates. I usually try to accommodate requests like that on my Patreon, though, and it's easy enough to grab a bank/project from the Octa.
What kind of sorcery….?
