My wife and I saw them live in May. This song is even better live. He hits all of those notes LIVE! The guy is wealth of talent. Vessel (the singer) writes, records, and partially produces everything except the drums, which are done by II. III and IV join them on tour. They also have 3 women that tour with them (also masked) who do the background singing. They put on an amazing show. Check out Granite, Aqua Regia, Take Me Back To Eden, Chokehold, and.... honestly, their entire catalog is fire! They don't miss!

I call Sleep Token Metal Fusion. They throw a lot of different styles into every song, but they went off the rails on The Summoning, Ascensionism, and Take Me Back to Eden. That's the next one you should check out for sure. Following that, Granite, Sugar, Alkaline (that one has an actual music video, not just a visualizer) and Blood Sport (from the room below--it's a stripped down version of the album release, and it's just Vessel and a piano. It is absolutely hauntingly beautiful). Also I really appreciate your analysis and interpretations. I always love when people who really understand music do reaction/reviews.
They're a heavily R&B and Garage influenced Prog-Rock band. Is Prog-Rock a really British thing or something because I hear this same discourse about their genre a lot and I've never really understood it?
Sleep Token bends both genres and time. Not many bands can do that. Trust me, a bunch of us just time traveled with you through this one. It's really awesome that you've picked up on the Breaking Benjamin influences in the vocals. It's one of the musical touches that always stands out to me about their music. Definitely check out Take Me Back to Eden (the song) next. It's very much in the same lane as Ascensionism.

I love these 3 (Sundowning, TPWBYT, and TMBTE) albums so much its crazy. Haven't vibed with a band this hard in a long time and its lasting for years. I'm very excited to see what happens now. Glad you're vibing to it.
Well, there’s a lot I could say as a fan of this band for over three years now. First to answer your question about touring, yes, they wear masks on stage to protect their identities. The vocalist is called Vessel. He’s a multi-instrumentalist as well and he writes/records not just the lyrics and vocals, but quite literally *everything* you hear on the album except for the drums. All the drum parts are written and recorded by the only other true member of the band, who is called ii. He also has some more expansive writing credits on a handful of songs in the discography, but by and large, Vessel write all but the drum parts. The drummer, ii, is in a league of his own making as well. His drumming is god-tier, and is, what I believe, what makes Sleep Token - forgive the pun - ascend above anyone that could be considered their “peers” but as you pointed out, this band bends and blends genres so smoothly and intricately, that you’d be hard pressed to define their sound or even find a band that could be considered a peer. Now the last thing I want to say, is to answer your question about what to listen to next, as you consider this song to have just set the bar. Rightfully so. I’m in the sleep token subReddit, which you can imagine is filled with a small subset of some of the most devoted fans this band has… and we are, kid you not, as I write this comment, two days away from completing a nearly 2-month long tournament event where we have been pouring through the ENTIRE discography to vote for, and ultimately discover together, what the best Sleep Token song is. We are at the final four, and you e already listened to 2 of the 4 that have made it to the final four. So that tells you something right there. You’re basically already starting at their gold standard, so I’m going to say it - I don’t think you’ll find a song you like *MORE* than the one you just listened to, BUT that doesn’t mean there aren’t endless more absolutely stunning songs to check out. The other two songs in our Final Four in case you were wondering, are Alkaline (from their second album), and the title track from their latest album (same album the previous two songs you reacted to are from), called Take Me Back To Eden. If you’re asking my personal opinion, this is their best song. However, I would highly, highly, highly recommend listening to at the very least, Chokehold, before diving into TMBTE, for lyrical callback reasons. There are other more intricate/subtle lyrical callbacks in that song from all across their discography, but Chokehold is the most important one to listen to before doing TMBTE. I have several other personal favorites I could suggest like The Offering, Higher, Atlantic, Hypnosis, High Water, Nazareth.. I think based on what you expressed here for what you enjoy, vibe-wise, you might also enjoy Granite, Rain, Descending, and Jaws, but part of me feels like recommending you listen to a live version of Jaws bc the vibes are immaculate on stage during that song…. My favorites are from Greensboro 2022, or Little Rock 2022 if you can find them here on UA-cam. Which leads me to my actual, truly final thing I wanna say - this band PEAKS on stage. It’s rare to find a band that sounds as good live as in studio, rarer still to find one that outmatches their own damn selves when they get up on stage. Night after night, just upleveling in ways that never fail to blow my mind. The bassist (iii) and guitarist (iv) are just touring members (as I previously mentioned they aren’t in the albums) but they are just as talented and incredible performers. The guitarist iv also lends his harsh vocals from time to time which are really well done. Vessel and ii, being the absolute units that they are, consistently wow us by adding in beautiful little variations and riffs that are not on the albums, and just really make the live shows mesmerizingly special. Vessel gives it his literal ALL every time, often to the point of genuine tears during different particularly poignant songs. The live shows are not even called shows, they are called Rituals. We gather together in worship. We connect, we emote, we transcend, together, through the vibrational pathways created by this incredible band. The songs themselves, particularly in the live setting, are called offerings. We offer them up (according to the lore they are offered as tokens to the deity, Sleep - hence the name of the band), but for many of us… as much as we love the theatrics of the lore, we still offer up our worship during the rituals, but perhaps not to a literal “god” called Sleep, but more to the general transcendence of that… unknowable something that exists just beyond our comprehension, that which we can feel and sense, and which connects us all to one another in this human experience.
This is not only my favorite Sleep Token song but it might be a favorite ... period. When he screams, "You're going to watch me ascend" and later "You make me wish I could disappear " no matter how many times I hear it feel that. Sleep Token just finished up a headlining tour of the US and will begin touring Europe soon with Bilmuri. They're great live. They're anonymous and wear masks. This song and The Summoning are off their third album Take Me Back to Eden. Its the third in a trilogy beginning with Sundowning. There are some references and callbacks. The next one you can check out would be the title track, Take Me Back to Eden. The Apparition also.

Sleep Token are the best band I have ever come across and the recent album is definitely my AOTY! You should go down the rabbit hole now. They’re genre bending and use elements of everything from rock, metal, RnB, trap, hip hop, gospel, and more. Even if you don’t like one song don’t write them off as every song is different and as you can see from this one they switch up completely through the songs, also don’t be thrown off by some of them being 7-8 minutes long either as it goes by far too quickly. You should start at the beginning and work your way through as they tell a story and have call backs to a lot of them. The band are anonymous, I and others know who they are but won’t reveal out of respect to the band and fans but the singer goes by the moniker Vessel, drummer, who is a beast is II, bassist III and guitarist IV. From London UK. As far as their discography goes they brought out two EPs called One and Two, then 2 singles called Jaws and The Way That You Were, then the three albums Sundowning, The Place Will Become Your Tomb, then TMBTE (Take Me Back To Eden). They’ve done five covers that I’m aware of. One being Hey Ya by OutKast, I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston, Is It Really You? By Loathe and When The Party’s Over by Billie Eilish, Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. His Vocal range I believe is B ♭2 to F#5 and he has a wonderful chest voice, head voice and scream. I have never hyper fixated on a band like I have with these! Loved the react and hopefully see many more. 🖤 The trilogy = Seduction. Destruction. Liberation.

Loved the reaction! Yes, they are multi-genre and absolutely fabulous. They blend the switch ups so well, and the lyrics are very poetic. Vessel (singer/songwriter/composer/producer) writes such beautiful lyrics that's so full of imagery and just reaches into your soul. They are so worth a deep dive into their discography. This latest album is absolute 🔥🔥🔥. I would listen to Take Me Back To Eden (song), Granite, The Apparition and Rain then maybe go back and listen to some if their earlier stuff. They are all good. Sleep Token are the best band I have ever come across and the recent album is definitely my AOTY! You should go down the rabbit hole now. They’re genre bending and use elements of everything from rock, metal, RnB, trap, hip hop, gospel, and more. Even if you don’t like one song don’t write them off as every song is different and as you can see from this one they switch up completely through the songs, also don’t be thrown off by some of them being 7-8 minutes long either as it goes by far too quickly. You should start at the beginning and work your way through as they tell a story and have call backs to a lot of them. The band are anonymous, I and others know who they are but won’t reveal out of respect to the band and fans but the singer goes by the moniker Vessel, drummer, who is a beast is II, bassist III and guitarist IV. From London UK. As far as their discography goes they brought out two EPs called One and Two, then 2 singles called Jaws and The Way That You Were, then the three albums Sundowning, The Place Will Become Your Tomb, then TMBTE (Take Me Back To Eden). They’ve done five covers that I’m aware of. One being Hey Ya by OutKast, I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston, Is It Really You? By Loathe and When The Party’s Over by Billie Eilish, Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. His Vocal range I believe is B ♭2 to F#5 and he has a wonderful chest voice, head voice and scream. I have never hyper fixated on a band like I have with these! Loved the react and hopefully see many more. 🖤

Anything they have put out is great, no two songs the same, they will always keep you guessing if its gonna switch up or not, lyrically sound, you cannot go wrong with anything they have released... they don't fit into any one genre... absolutely love this band 😊

Loved the reaction! Yes, they are multi-genre and absolutely fabulous. They blend the switch ups so well, and the lyrics are very poetic. Vessel (singer/songwriter/composer/producer) writes such beautiful lyrics that's so full of imagery and just reaches into your soul. They are so worth a deep dive into their discography. This latest album is absolute 🔥🔥🔥. I would listen to Take Me Back To Eden (song), Granite, The Apparition and Rain then maybe go back and listen to some if their earlier stuff. They are all good. Here fir it!!!
