And that basil is boss af, I usually tear it up, but I can definitely never have pho without it again haha!! THANKS MARTINA NOW I NEED TO GO GET SOME PHO. 😩🍜
Protip on pho noodles, ask them to send the noodles uncooked instead. The noodles have a much better texture, exactly how they come out when you're eating at the restaurant vs having them poach it in advance and letting them get a little soft and soggy. You'll just need to boil some water, dunk the uncooked noodles for 15 - 20 seconds (time could vary depending on brand/quality of noodles), quickly strain and put into bowl with heated broth. It's extra extra effort but imo is totally worth it!
The way I remember pronunciation is that when a new place in my city opened called "Pho King" opened and you called to order, they would pronounce it correctly. Nothing like someone picking up the phone and saying "Pho King can I help you?"

Hey Martina! I’m so happy to see you do a video on Pho. I’m Vietnamese-American and it’s one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes to eat. I appreciate that you took the time + effort to explain not only the dish itself, but also the special components of the dish. When foodies or food personalities do Pho, they tend to gloss over it and just eat/say it’s delicious without explaining what makes it so popular. I also appreciated that you took the time to show people how to properly pronounce it (you tried so you get a 🌟). Overall, I love the message you’re sending out to people in this video. If you love to eat a culture’s dish, do yourself a favor and learn WHY you love it. Every cultures’ dish has a story, history, and significance to it. We’re all stewards when it comes to part-taking in a culture’s dish and sharing it with others. So long story short - GREAT JOB, MARTINA! 😉✨👌🏼
As a Viet-Canadian, I think you did the pho justice which was nice to see! 👩🏻🍳👌🏻*chefs kiss* It was a nice crash course for people who may not know why/how things are done. I actually really liked that you separated the solids and the liquids at the end to re-store it for leftovers. It typically gets stored together by then and ends up soggy because the noodles absorb all the broth (not in the best way). Also welcome back :)
Hi Martina! Thank you for featuring Vietnamese food! It doesn't get enough of the hype that it deserves!! The way that I prepare take out phở is a little different. First I would set the broth and brisket into a pot and let it get to a rolling boil (You want it HAWT). While that is cooking I would microwave the noodles for about 30-60 secs. This prevent the noodles from being overcooked and soggy. Then I would add the raw beef slices into the bowl with the noodles and then pour the boiling soup over the noodles and raw beef. Because the beef slices are so thin it would be cooked instantly without it being too overdone.
There's a bombastic Pho restaurant in my state called Un-Pho-Gettable. I can't resist restaurants that have pun names! They give you a metric ton of food, plus an entire plateful of that sweet basil! If the pandemic ever stops, I'm definitely going there again. It's great to see that you're still able to support local restaurants in your area and have amazing food despite the limitations, Martina! Thanks for sharing this with us. ❤
Hi Martina! I'm Vietnamese and this is how my mom orders pho take out. She asks for the tai (thin beef) raw and the noodles raw as well. She'll cook the noodles separately like pasta in boiling water, but no salt (pho noodles cook pretty fast). She'll assemble like this: hot cooked noodles, cooked beef/tendon/etc., raw beef, and pour over hot broth. The broth will cook the raw beef perfectly so it won't get over cooked. The hot broth will warm up the other meat too. Ugh, so good!
I just woke up and was drinking coffee and was enjoying Martina talk about coffee so much that it took me an embarrassingly long time to realize that was a sponsorship pitch Really amazing to see you Martina! ;)
straight up A+ for the pronunciation. Even a Vietnamese guy like me have to clap hands everytime you say Phở. You have absolute nailed the technique but I would recommend you squeeze a little bit of lime juice and a bit of sate, the taste elevation is going to be much higher. Thank you for trying the Vietnamese dishes like this, it really helps raising the great Vietnamese food to all of you. Stay safe and Cảm ơn rất nhiều (thank you so much).
@@eatyourkimchi Also Vietnamese person here, saying it like a question is incorrect in general. It might sound similar to an upward inflection if spoken in the Southern Vietnamese dialect. In the Northern dialect, the tone for the word “phở” is more of a deeper sound produced from the bottom of your throat and does not sound like a question at all. Just contributing for your info :)
Who knows how to eat pho, but still watched the whole video anyway because they love Martina content?! 🙋😍 Also I didn't skip through the sponsor, because you do it so organically and your skits are so entertaining 😂
Love that you're back in videos. Extra love that it's about food I grew up with and that you're so good about giving accurate context behind it. This made my day
What a delight to see your face pop up in my feed; this made my day. You’ve got such a talent for making videos that make people smile. I’m chronically ill and have learned to focus on small joys everyday. Sometimes a bowl of Pho is just what the doctor ordered. Your Mum is stinking adorable and I’m so glad you’ve got each other to lean on during (arguably) the crappiest year in history. On the bright side patios are opening tomorrow🥳 (although I’m not in any rush to be around tons of people downtown). Thanks for helping me build a ladder today cuz I really needed it. 🌈❤️
Thank you for being you. For being positive when its hard, for teaching us that it's okay to not always be okay, to build a latter. To bring us educational videos. You and Simon are turly gems.
If u dont want ur raw beef to over cook, I would recommend not putting in the cooking broth when your heating it, but put the beef into ur bowl before you dump toppings in, after you've poured the broth in. Its scolding so it'll cook quickly
I eat pho every other week because it's my dad's favorite food and he won't stop making it a few times a month since quarantine started lol. I just wanted to say Martina did such a great job of not only demonstrating but appreciating the meal. I was amazed at how much Martina knew since I've always felt like pho is one of those food a lot of people have eaten but know very little about. - Internationally, you can usually get pho at any time of day but in Vietnam, it is usually just a breakfast meal. Some pho places would even close at 12-1 pm there. - The broth becoming like jelly in the fridge is 100% how you can tell authentic pho from the flavoring ones. Before the lockdown, dad and I actually bought broth from all of the pho places near me to see if any of them would become jelly in the fridge. - There's also chicken pho which is lighter in flavor but just as good. Dad actually makes a combination of beef and chicken cuz he has high cholesterol and can't eat a lot of beef. It actually makes it easier to eat since he makes a lot and we eat it for like a week every morning. - If you want to not overcook the meat, put it into the bowl instead of directly into the broth. Aim for the meat when you pour the broth into your bowl and keep the meat submerge for a bit. The broth is hot enough to cook the meat without overcooking. Also your pronunciation of pho at the end was basically perfect Martina!!! Missed you so much and so glad to see a video from you!
Thank you for filming in a home that looks like people live there! 10/10 times I want to see people in spaces that don't look staged for the video. It's boring and makes people feel inadequate. Normal people in normal spaces are so much more interesting. (and relatable af!)
I've been using Trade for over a year and I love it! I really appreciate how you can change the frequency of deliveries at any time. I'm going to go order some pho now. Yummmm
Love you Martina! Love how you turned a sponsorship into a comedy skit so it didn’t feel like advertising! Totally how I make take home pho as well! Vietnamese momma approved!
GRRL...you are ridiculously talented at making me actually be invested in what is essentially an ad for coffee, of which I don't even drink, but now maybe I should...I must be missing out on something right? Keep building that ladder and love, love, love your video content. It's a present every time I see one!!!! Happy unbirthday to me!
Haha 😂 turning tea drinkers to coffee~ well I’m glad you found it funny, if you’re going to sit through an ad, I might as well put effort into making it enjoyable even for all those non-coffee drinkers
LOOOVED THIS! and your mom's cameo 🤣🤣🤣 PERFECT! She is too cute and innocent 🥺 mom must be protected at all cost! I'd loooove to see a video of your plants and your propagation station 😍🌿
I'm a day late, but I am so freaking happy to see a new video (aside from King Kogi work, obviously)! While I've had pho in restaurants before, I've never assembled it at home, so your video and some of the comments below have actually really helped me because it is something I've been cautious about delivery ordering for a while. Keep it up queen, love to see the jokes and the joy
Yay!! Love the foodie content! The first and only time I had pho, I was in Greeley, Colorado! They also served raw jalapeno peppers as a side. It was a major pain day, so I enjoyed mine for a minute as it came and made it so spicy the other people I was with couldn't handle it, lol. Oops. I also had mine with brisket, tendon, and tripe. I ordered the wrong one by mistake. I will say, though, that even though I had never had any of this before, I LOVED IT. Still crave pho. It had been almost 3 years!
I live in a very rural area, so it wasn't until yesterday that I was able to find an actual Vietnamese restaurant for the first time ever that I just HAD to check out (yes we traveled to see the eclipse and it was INCREEEEEDIBLE!!!!!) I ordered pho just because of this video ❤❤❤ even though I was very tempted by the Bahn Mi 🤣 so getting to see my first total eclipse and then finishing off the day with my first ever Vietnamese food with pho was such an absolutely unforgettable experience 🤩🤩
I used to watch this channel all the time when i was a teen, and just saw this video pop up in my recommended! I miss you so much, and just binged all the videos i missed! Your korea videos brought so much positivity and humor to my life when i discovered your channel

I rmb how happy and laid-back the content was back when you guys were still doing EYK, those videos taught me alot about Korea, and they brought me so much joy!! I was only 14 when I was watching them, now I'm 24. I won't forget the little jokes and punny puns made back then. Love you guys so much!!
I lived in Vietnam for several months a few years ago and I ate so much pho! I get it here in the states delivered much the same way as Martina did but I assemble it differently. I put the noodles and raw beef in the bowl with the onions. Then I boil the broth and warm up the brisket (and tendon!) in it then pour it over the beef and noodles slowly. I use a lot more herbs and I always get extra bean sprouts since I love them so much. I like spice so I add the sriracha to the broth and keep chilis on the side to take bites of while you’re eating for some added heat. But I do dip my beef into the hoisin like she did. So good to get to see you back Martina! Hope the cookbook is going well!
I have to admit I usually fast forward through people's ads unless it's for something I'd be interested in. But *that* was the best and most enjoyable to watch ad I have ever seen. I love the interplay between business Martina and regular Martina, so funny. I would go back and watch it again, infact. And I'm going to check out that coffee because it sounds great. Thank you for both entertaining me and informing me about a cool company.
The day this came out, I was actually having pho for dinner... I actually don't care for the basil so I always leave those out. I always add a BUNCH of bean sprouts because YUM!!!!! I have a friend who leaves out the lime... I like how customizable it is... and the fact that you call it magic soup makes me so happy because that's what I call it because I eat it every time I start to get a cold and it makes me feel better.
Something very specific, but I forgot how much I missed/enjoyed listening to how Martina describes food and flavors ! I feel like I'm a foodie myself, but hearing her talk so passionately about the food makes me want to appreciate food even more ! I'm so heckin excited to try all kinds of new food when I can finally leave for Japan this year >< 💖
This makes me so happy to see you on here again Martina! Keep the coffee puns comin! It’s amazing 🥰🤘😎🤘❤️ and yes mom cameo! Love it! Y’all are the best ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Martina! I've never had pho before, and am now desperate to try some, it looks absolutely scrumptious. Spotted that box of Yorkshire Gold behind you, and I applaud you for your doubly good taste! Sending love from the UK xx
Omg I spent so long trying to find your channel again because I used to watch you two YEARS AGO when I was a teenager and you made WTF videos, among other things. I’m so happy to see you’re still making videos and I’m going to rewatch all of the old ones that I used to love if they’re still on here 😭
Hi Martina, I hope you are feeling well. Congrats on the coffee sponsorship I will be sure to check it out. I'm sending you all my love and good vibes!!!
That’s me! I’m in Etobicoke but the Sauga is my closest city. It’s been amazing to see how it’s grown, I literally used to drive through the “farm” land part of it with my family when I was a kid, and now it’s all paved and filled out
I eat the topping by themselves. Your explanation is great. Personally, the noodle gets warmed in the microwave, and even the cooked meat (if too cold) for about 30 seconds , while the broth is heated. Place the noodle and meats in the bowl (raw meat can be placed at the bottom or top depending on how much you want to cook it), and when the broth is ready, pour the broth in the bowl with a circular motion (or rather spiral, pouring near the rims to the center) .
Hi Martina! I’m so happy to see u and it made my morning to watch this video 🥰 I am Vietnamese and only thing I would say is not to put the noodles into the broth and cook cuz they can get super soggy . And u definitely made me crave pho! It is my #1 fave food !
I ordered take-out pho for Father's Day and came back to reference this video to make sure I got the most out of my pho. It was delicious! Thank you Martina!
Vietnamese-American here, also a first-time commenter (but long, long time lurker!) and i just wanna say: THANK U FOR THE REP!! it makes me so happy to see my favorite channels promote food from my culture ;w; I personally like to pour the hoisin sauce & sriracha directly into my bowl, but that's mostly because i'm too lazy to bother dipping 🤣 i also like to eat pho with culantro (i had to look up the name lmao, aka "ngò gai"). I also have to concur with other people, as someone who's grown up eating pho, i never really thought that people unfamiliar with VN food would need a how-to construct a pho bowl. now that i see it all laid out, i realize pho is a bit more complicated than i thought!! btw, love the kogi merch cameos. definitely gonna check out the online store! 😉
AHHHH love the cameo from your mum! Also whenever you post your mini adventures on Instagram I get super jealous because I love in Toronto but I haven’t left the house much 😭
I love the raw beef too! I heat up half the broth, half the noodles with half of the meats, except the raw beef. Once it's all in the bowl, I add the raw beef, which slightly cooks from the heat of the broth but remains soft. The pho place I go to gives a very generous amount of food in one order, so I always have extra for the next day. The other thing I like to order are the summer rolls with the hoisin/peanut sauce. Such a refreshing treat!
Martinaaaaa!! So happy to see you 😁💕 I missed this! Also unpopular opinion, when I order pho I exclusively order seafood pho. I like beef pho too but I just prefer it! It's mine and my mom's favorite thing to eat period at our favorite pho shop for the last 15 years. Moved to another state from her a year ago and I haven't had pho since 🥺💕
As a Vietnamese person growing up eating pho for my entire life, I really enjoyed your video! Thank you for introducing pho to everyone and telling everyone to not be scared to eat it because it’s definitely so GOOD 😍😍😍 My mum showed me that exact same method to cook up our left over pho but what I personally like is to put the noodles and rare beef in a seperate bowl and then pour the hot broth into it. So as you’re eating it’s still cooking! I just prefer this way because I like the raw and slightly undercooked flavour 🥰🥰🥰 Still an amazing video, thank you for demonstrating how to cook delivery pho hehe. I’m also really happy to see you back uploading videos AHHH I MISSED YOU 😍😍😍
If people are having trouble pronouncing "pho" with the proper inflection: try saying it like you would say "huh?" It's how I explain it to my friends, and it seems to work :D
1:08 PHO COM 99 IS ACTUALLY SO FIRE!! I love their food so much, they have such delicious pho and rice dishes as the name implies (com = rice) the fish is fried beautifully the pho is fragrant I used to love coming here with my family before the pandemic and the staff are so nice!! The staff are all Viet but super friendly!
Phò is one of my absolute favourites! I like the one that has the rare steak, brisket, tendon, tripe, and beef balls. I eat each bite dipped into chili crisp and hoisin sauce ☺️
While I eat pho and am familiar with the tendons etc, and am for using the whole animal, I am also autistic and sometimes not knowing there will be a surprise texture can be off putting, so I really appreciate that you told people about the tendon texture Martina so that way people will be less likely to surprised and possibly off put :)!!!

I just woke up and was drinking coffee and was enjoying Martina talk about coffee so much that it took me an embarrassingly long time to realize that was a sponsorship pitch
Really amazing to see you Martina! ;)
👋🏻 hi!! I think I’m back~ had such a great time filming and making characters and skits! 😊
@@eatyourkimchi I’ve always loved the skits and characters. Looking forward to seeing more of Business Martina 😆👍
straight up A+ for the pronunciation.
Do you really think pronounced it correctly? I feel like Martina and a lot of people pronounce it as FUH instead of Phở
@@thanhhua7684 well for a foreigner that's an A+ for them. at least she didn't say PHO.
@@itsminhnhut well to be honest everybody is patting themselves on the back for saying fuh which I think is just as In accurate as saying pho
hey Vietnamese person here! with Vietnamese words the expression makes the meaning so when you say phở, say it like a question like “fuh??”
*taking notes* and is it a long "fuuuh?" or more "fuh?" with a shorter "u"
A shorter one definitely
@@eatyourkimchi every Vietnamese word is one syllable so definitely short ☺️ glad i could help!!
Martina is glowing in this, Can’t wait for all the things you do in the future, Love ya Martina!!
Thank you for being you. For being positive when its hard, for teaching us that it's okay to not always be okay, to build a latter. To bring us educational videos. You and Simon are turly gems.
Martina im just glad you're here and posting wonderful content for us!
Great to see you! Creative, humorous, fun, and informative. Sending you prayers, love, and hugs!
There have been so many changes to the channel's content since started watching 10 years ago, but change is good and I still enjoy watching!
I've been using Trade for over a year and I love it! I really appreciate how you can change the frequency of deliveries at any time.
I'm going to go order some pho now. Yummmm
To make sure the beef isn't overcooked, I usually put it on top of the noodles and pour the boiling broth over it!
OMG. Great idea! Thanks so much for sharing, duh, why didn't I think of that! hahah
Heyy Martina!!!! So happy for the food video, and happy to see you! Hope you're doing great! 🥰
I used to watch this channel all the time when i was a teen, and just saw this video pop up in my recommended! I miss you so much, and just binged all the videos i missed! Your korea videos brought so much positivity and humor to my life when i discovered your channel
This video is giving me major old EYK vibes and I am here for it!!!!!
OG Korea videos!!!
Minus Simon. whoops 🤫
@@cmmiestcat sorry who? 🥴
@@binibini5137 I recommend going through the simonandmartina subreddit to get caught up. Especially since Simon has been blocking subscribers and deleting comments.
Watching this channel just gives me childhood vibes
I would LOVE if you made a Spotify playlist with your music or chill indie music to sleep/zone out/self care to.
Ahhh! As a Vietnamese fan since the very beginning I am so honored and happy to be watching this video! Love u PHOever!!!!!!
"that would be a bit of a faux pas" AHHH you missed a pun opportunity.
*curses* shakes fist
I have to admit I usually fast forward through people's ads unless it's for something I'd be interested in. But *that* was the best and most enjoyable to watch ad I have ever seen. I love the interplay between business Martina and regular Martina, so funny. I would go back and watch it again, infact. And I'm going to check out that coffee because it sounds great. Thank you for both entertaining me and informing me about a cool company.
I’m so happy you’re back, love you 💖
The day this came out, I was actually having pho for dinner...
マルティナ!!元気そうでよかった~!!
I'm so happy to watch you again.
Something very specific, but I forgot how much I missed/enjoyed listening to how Martina describes food and flavors ! I feel like I'm a foodie myself, but hearing her talk so passionately about the food makes me want to appreciate food even more ! I'm so heckin excited to try all kinds of new food when I can finally leave for Japan this year >< 💖
Clearly can see where the talent charm and creatively of this channel comes from. Looking forward to enjoying more from you and King Kogi Martina!!!
I’m so happy to see you so happy! I always wondered what all the extras were for, ps your skin is looking GREAT these days!
Great video, love the thumbnail too! Your mom’s part was adorable ❤️
Omg so glad you guys are back . You guys are my comfort food 🥰
I love you Martina! Keep doing what you're doing, you're amazing!
Love how coffee made its way into a video on pho Lovin' it Martina!
Martinas Mum is wholesome as fuuuuu
I grew up on the border of Mississauga/Etobicoke and it gives me great joy every time you mention a place that I also frequent/loved growing up!
That’s me! I’m in Etobicoke but the Sauga is my closest city. It’s been amazing to see how it’s grown, I literally used to drive through the “farm” land part of it with my family when I was a kid, and now it’s all paved and filled out
I love how she is so passionate about food (especially coffee) and enjoying herself on camera 🥰
I made this mistake with to-go Pho, even though they were only in there for maybe 30 seconds! They can get soggy FAST!
I ordered take-out pho for Father's Day and came back to reference this video to make sure I got the most out of my pho. It was delicious! Thank you Martina!
MARTINA! YAY! THANK YOU FOR MAKING MY DAY!
Vietnamese-American here, also a first-time commenter (but long, long time lurker!) and i just wanna say: THANK U FOR THE REP!! it makes me so happy to see my favorite channels promote food from my culture ;w;
I personally like to pour the hoisin sauce & sriracha directly into my bowl, but that's mostly because i'm too lazy to bother dipping 🤣 i also like to eat pho with culantro (i had to look up the name lmao, aka "ngò gai").
Also whenever you post your mini adventures on Instagram I get super jealous because I love in Toronto but I haven’t left the house much 😭
I'm really loving the feel of these new videos Martina, big props
Yay!!! I missed you, Martina!! Saw the Facebook post and rushed here.
I love this. Really feels like your old content Martina. Really well made, so glad to have you back 🙌
you look so good girl!! very well done with the pho I LOVE IT!! Made me tempted to grab a bowl tonight
Everyone in the comments missing Martina...who hasn't already ... follow Martina @King.Kogi on Instagram!!! She posts all the time there!
Fantastic as always - thank you Martina! Please bring more of those videos!

Finished watching and i just wanna say that your content is so, so quality! I see every bit of love put into editing these videos. And your passion for sharing this AMAZING food! ❤❤❤
