Through nine feature films, an Emmy-award-winning TV show, and thousands of television commercials, Ernest P. Worrell became a beloved comedy icon. Originally created as an advertising character, Ernest transcended these humble beginnings to become an unexpected hit-given life through the creativity of an indispensable team of artists, as well as through the unparalleled talent of actor Jim Varney.
Today, two decades after Varney's death, both Ernest and Jim seem to endure largely as pop culture footnotes; or worse, as easy punchlines. But there’s more to Ernest than that, and this documentary film will guide viewers through the entire Ernest epoch to examine the shelf life of a phenomenon.
Using archival footage, cast and crew interviews, and never-before-seen material, we will seek to answer the questions: “Who was Ernest, who was Jim Varney, how did they relate, and why do they both mean so much to people?”

I had a horrible childhood and in 1990 at the age of 7 I managed to get Ernest goes to jail on VHS. I found my hero. Here was a character that wasn't the smartest person in the room but he was the most inventive and always had the biggest heart. He made me smile when I needed it most and although I never met Jim or knew him in anyway other than the characters he played when he passed in 2000 it wounded me deeply as if I'd lost a lifelong friend. I pray your able to finish and release this because the world deserves it.
I am so happy Jim got to have at least some part of his dream come true.
As Erin has said before, Jim was Ernest but Ernest wasn't Jim. Still, I loved
Ernest grew up with him in the 80's and 90's in Louisiana.

I cannot tell you how many times I watched the greatest hits vhs as a kid, now my 14yo and 4yo watch it along with his movies with me.
Man I miss Jim Varney/Ernest. Looking forward to seeing a true documentary done on such a talented man.
They say “only the good die young” but man losing Jim at 50 was such a tragedy! He was an absolute legend- missed and loved by so many. My absolute favorite will always be Ernest Goes To Camp. Can’t wait for this film in his memory. 🙏🥀
As a long time fan of the character, I am really looking forward to this. The character was an influence on my humor and when looking into who Jim was such as reading Justin Lloyd's book, he really did seem like a great guy. Like many, I wish I could have met him at least once and to tell him what an impact he had on me. The fact this project was funded past the goal is a truly a testiment of his great legacy. I hope I can still support the project in some way because I missed the chance to back it.

Reading the book now, would love to see a documentary.
Running through some old movies and clips. Definitely a awesome person that played apart in my childhood. Starting to introduce him to my kids. I think they will enjoy the class act he is. Sure would of loved to see him continue his dream!

Wow, kinda just now learning about this. I'm very excited. I know you mention digitizing the master tapes. The clips at the beginning and very end of this look SO good. One thing I would hope could maybe come from all of this would be publishing every commercial you have digitized from the masters; a kind of remastered of the volumes of ads that are already on UA-cam. Good luck with the documentary!

Feature-length (90 minutes) at minimum seems like a safe bet. We know this story has a lot of depth and things we’d like to cover, but to be honest, we’re not yet sure how long the film will be.

What’s the latest on the documentary?
I always use to say Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs could put on the earnest outfit bc he looks like Jim and now even Jon Cena starting to look like Ernest on steroids and my good buddy growing up now looks like Ernest lol now that he’s in his mid to late 30s lol I tried to get him to dress up like him but he hadn’t don’t it yet but hopefully soon and Is there any word on when this will be out ? I’ve been dreaming of this for decades and maybe you guys can put to sleep the rumors that Jim was working on a new Ernest movie when he passed away and I believe it was something like Ernest the pirate or a pirate theme Ernest movie.. thank you guys for doing this
man I hope this comes out soon!! I read that Varney knew smoking was bad and would hide his chain smoking cause he didnt want kids seeing him smoke. 23 years after his death, I still think of him.
Could you please get them to release Ernest Goes to Camp on digital I would ultimately love a 4K release but I would accept just digital at this point but you can't get it digitally anywhere you can get all the other Earnest movies but not this one which is the best one I would like to own a digital copy of this on Vudu
