A lot of negative comments here. There are some comments with legitimate environmental criticisms, and i agree. Some commenters simply begrudge others having fun. We all have a different idea of a good time. It was my first time. I thought i was not going to enjoy it. But I had a blast. It was dirty, dusty, the art was beautiful, music and performances were awesome, and the people were friendly and generous. I dont think my third eye was opened, but it was great to be away from technology and reset.
Thank you for your comment. I am afraid on a topic like Afrikaburn everybody will have a different idea and opinion. Most people I have spoken to have come away pleasantly surprised by the experience.
Afrikaburn - the place where people that claim to love nature and solitude come together to make a ton of trash and noise while "sticking it to the man" Every year I go after to be part of the clean up teams, the people that actually appreciate the Tankwa!
Is this a "im on a high horse" comment? what do you go and clean? the place is left spotless by the people and the organizers after? what place with humans doesnt produce trash? like hurr durr karen.
is that a rocket stove made out of a huge turbo???? if it is, its ingenious... please tell me you have a video about the stove?????????? very very well regards guys
No, it is not a rocket stove but works more like a wood stove. Front load for wood or charcoal with good air regulation. The chimney can take a metal grid to boil water or even make a potjie from the heat escaping. The other nice thing is that it is cast iron and holds plenty of heat for heating purposes when out camping. It is also not a big turbo although it looks like one. It is an AIR BOLWER similar to a water pump. The innards have been removed. I added the steel door on the front and the air regulation slide at the bottom. It looks cool and works really well. I named it ' The Black Mamba'

Afrikaburn beautifully and chaotically integrates both the dark and the light. I disagree with the environmental lip service that is paid. Let's be real, it's destructive to the environment if you constrain your window to the festival itself. But it plants a seed. Never have I contemplated my impact on this earth more consciously than during the Burn. You return from the festival asking yourself, 'How can I be ok with all of this?' It's pure confrontation with everything that is wrong and everything that is right with society. It's an alien landscape of pure contradiction. Hedonism, freedom, suffering, confrontation with emotions, it has it all. So far away from a music festival. It's in some other category. I will definitely be going again. Not all people allow themselves to care about everything Afrikaburn has to offer. It could also just be a collection of music festivals and escapism. But to enough, I think it is a kickstart into action in the 'default world'. Almost becomes a measuring yard, year on year, "What have I contributed since last year?". In that way, Afrikaburn is simultaneously destructive and constructive. Creativity and freedom are unleashed like a big bang, from which its magic can evolve into wider society. I realise I am all talk now. This was my first Burn, but I feel very motivated to walk the walk. We will see by this time next year whether there are any fruits to harvest.
You are a hundred percent right with your observations. It means different things to different people. One thing is for sure it leaves it's mark on you one way or another.
I know very little about the drug scene as I have nothing to do with it. I think recreational drugs are allowed for personal use only. No, we did not do the Olympic run...
I think this "festival" is really about adults who miss the vibe associated with the party and rave culture of their varsity days, which for them, is now over forever.
South Africa. Half of the people are from Europe. The other half are locals. African people do not like camping like the white locals do. Also it is expensive to attend. There are definitely black people who attend this event. It is open to anybody who wishes to attend.
Great video thanks, from a first timer🦾. If you’ve been there you’ll understand it’s about celebrating life, and celebrating death, and you won’t comment through lack of understanding 😎
So cool this. Wow.
Lots of fun. Like visiting another planet. Thanks
That is true, it is very different from normal day to day living.
Great video, thank you!
You are welcome.

This looks like a version of eternal hell
I thought the same!

Looks awesome
This must be the marketing department for eternal hell 🤔
For one week in the year the silence is broken in the Tankwa Karoo.
Nice video. Thoroughly enjoyed it 🤙

Not sure I saw a single black person..
There were black people but not a lot. Research at Burning Man and AfrikaBurn has shown that black people do not like camping.

Say what?
@@PhilUys sorry directed at the the guy asking why theres no black people because its africa
Where does this take place?
Why only white people (so it seems) ?
