Two years after posting but this video is still helping people! I needed to know one of the numbers on the front of my motherboard but don't usually do stuff like this since i'm not much of an electronics gal. this was very clear and a big help, i found my number with no damage :) so thank you! (side note, none of my side clips broke XD)
Your video was a great help! I only needed to fix my right trigger, and your video was really specific with the disassembly instructions. I also managed to not break my side clips, so the controller is practically new 👍
If y’all are having trouble taking the cover off take the guitar pic or a flat head screwdriver pry it open kind of around the bumpers works on every controller I’ve done
Thank you. The top of the analog stick came off from the actual analog stick and I was able to fix it. This was easier to put together than a ps3 controller.
Thx man at least ik that I can repair my controller was worried I destroyed it see the wire snapped off the green card piece but now I know I can get it back together
Its so hard to remove the outer cover, if it's doing for the first time. most of the videos in here and the rest show not for the first time. Most challenging part is at two clips below PS button, if you opened this in first time, then the second time onwards its easy. so including this video its easily comes. guitar pick on that area wont work at all.
Hey great video! You helped me get the trigger buttons, (I was afraid they mite break) and then discovered the button encoder ribbon circuits went into them, so twice again thanks! If anyone's controller won't turn on but charges fine, check that ribbon I found a bad (corroded) circuit from a long ago spill. I replaced it, you can get one for under $5on ebay. it's not easy, but that was it, it works perfectly again
You could order pry tools and start there. They are the differnt sizes and have a small part at the end to go down and catch then push the tab apart. The problem is the guitar pic isnt get down to separate the tab. . Never had an issue with a pry tool on a new one. Same pry tools id use to fix any playstation/computer/controller. Make make different size sets.
Bro please help! I have same controller model like you and i want to change my controller ribbon circuit and there are 3 4 types or ribbons which is to used? Jds-010, jds-020 or jds-040 ?
Hey there mate! I would love to help and I opened up my controller just for this. Sadly there is no such code on the buttons plastic sheet. All I can tell you is that the sheet is blue and the only thing that make if feel like a mk code is “5A”. Also my circuit board is JDM-055. I hope this helps.
Thank you for this teardown. Would you happen to know if the analog stick boxes are the same as what are in PS2 controllers? I would like to just desolder the boxes from my PS4 controller and donate them to my PS2 controller with worn out boxes.
The clippers are a bit tight and scary to unclip. Try the twist method. And the ones in the front need a bit of force to unlock. The side ones, I think they are designed to break when the case gets opened so don’t feel bad if yours break.
If you pop out the L1 and R1, you can reach the little clip from the front. But it only works on gen2 controllers where the dividing piece between L2 and L1 is part of the inside frame and not part of the outer shell I think. Your video helped me getting off the rear 2 clips, thanks!
Bro need help! Please can you tell me which ribbon circuit is gonna support this controller same model like you tearing down!Jds-040, jds-030 or jds-010?
Hi, I accidentally broke the connector on my ps4 motherboard. To be specific the connector in which the ribbon for usb and led light get connected. How do I fix it?
There is no easy answer here. It depends on the way that it broke. I would recommend taking it to a professional electronist. They have the right tools to fix this.
Hey Nerox! I haven’t experienced this problem with any of my controllers so far so I don’t know why is this happening to you. Could it be that your controller might not be an original one?
I forgot to take that one out. Min 5:33, you can see it on the plastic chassis in the middle. You should be able to pull it out with some tweezers. Pull gently and be careful not to break the pins.
@LifeHackerMax I think there's some adhesive holding it in. That mofo ain't coming out. I broke that frame it's in anyway, so I'll probably just break it to get the speaker out. I already have replacement frames. Thank goodness for AliExpress.
