Do you have to use silver
In case somebody find this helpful it s much easiet to scratch if you do few coats of watercolors tho it s much more time consuming , feeling of scratching is almost the same as in manufactured scratch off tickets, at first watercolor paint isnt sticking to tape so you gave tu dig ur brush in watercolors pretty long and put coat to the tape then wait for it to dry and put second layer as thick as possible and it scratches so easily and satysfyingly !! 🎉 I fount it most efficient to put long tape over someting even like 30 cm o ng and do one big coat and then you have basically scratch off tape you can stick where youbwant to
about the paint i dont understand can i chose eny color if i dont have metalic silver color?
It should work with any acrylic colour, not just metallic. Metallic paint tends to be a bit thinner than the other colours which I think helps. You could always dilute your acrylics with a tiny bit of water if they're too thick...play with it!

One question - what is the purpose of detergent?

So that a small amonut of arcylic paint will colour all the cards (sorry for my bad english)
so that you can scratch off the paint without it sticking on

hello. great idea and tutorial video. I'm wondering, have you ever tried to make a full page (A4 or letter size) scratch card? I'm looking to make something like that but problem is the clear tape isn't wide enough to cover the whole page of course. how will this technique behave if multiple tapes are applied to make a larger area as scratch card?
Instead of tape you can use a white crayon under where you want to put the scratching thingy
Faraz Azhar you could laminate the whole sheet and paint over that.

This can also work with whiteboard markers! Just put tape and then color it all over and wait for it to dry.

Hii(: Can I know if it is a Must for to use Metallic Silver Acrylic Paint? I have Acrylic Paint, but don't have Metallic Silver color :-(
You do NOT have to use metallic. I just used it because it looked the most like a commercial scratch card. The soap and acrylic are the two most important parts. Have fun!

Might even be easier to use a sponge cut to the specific size of the square to hide the area.

do you have to use acrylic metallic paint???
It doesn't have to be metallic (I chose that to look more authentic), but acrylic is a plastic which is what allows it to bond to the tape and then scrape off easily. Non-acrylics tend to just flake right off when dry.

im pretty sure u can use any paper as long as you tape the area u need to paint on first

Yes it should - the more important factor is that it's acrylic paint so that it scratches off easily. Good luck!

What a good idea! I haven't tried that before, but I'm going to guess that writing on it with Sharpie/permanent marker would probably work.

Can it be regular scotch tape or does it have tone clear packing tape.? Plz answer
+Luis sanchez Hi, You can try scotch tape and it should work. Just make sure you overlap your layers so the paint doesn't soak through the edges, which is the main reason I used the packing tape - it's width and durability. Otherwise scotch tape should technically do the trick.

Does it have to be acrylic paint? Can it be any kind?
It should be acrylic so that it can be scratched off easily. Acrylic is a thicker-bodied paint than others so it works perfectly.
Will Tempera Paint instead of acrylic because my local crafts store ran out of acrylic paint, they are getting more next week but i really want to make them now.
I can't say for sure as I haven't tried it but there's a good chance it will still be okay. Maybe not as durable as the acrylic paint though.
I tried it yesterday and let it to dry upstairs but for some reason it didn't dry
All paints are different qualities as are dish soaps so maybe those two brands weren't great together. It could also just be that the tempera just won't cut it. :/

While I've only ever used metallic paint on mine, I'm assuming that regular acrylic would work the same...maybe try a sample one first juuuust to be sure!

Natalee Gonsalves Acrylic is best since it dries like a rubbery plastic, making it easier to scratch or rub off. I haven't tried anything else.

Loved the video. But i want to make a scratch off map. I purchased the acrylic silver paint from near store but they gave me it in powder form. Can i mix water in it to form the liquid and then add detergent soap? And can i use multiple tape to cover my map and make it scratch?

Really any paper would work but I used a heavier weight card stock so they would be more sturdy. Whatever goes thorugh your printer.

+Nichole Creel Clear soap has the least amount of additives which is why I recommend it. A coloured soap would most likely still work as well too. Good luck!

what is the detergent's role here?
The detergent adds athickness to the paint and prevents it from drying as hard as it would on it's own. This makes it much easier to scratch off.

Arts and Craft's stores sells cost efficient paint.
Can you laminate them instead of using tape?
You absolutely could laminate them - that would be very durable for cards you want to re-use over and over again. My tape suggestion was just to give an easily accessible home method. Have fun!

why does it have to have detergent?
Detergent works best because of it's viscosity as well as it's ingredients. It's thick enough to hold body with the paint and helps the paint release from the tape surface easier when dry. I've only ever used dish detergent, you could probably try a liquid hand soap as well. Good luck!
