    Having a degree says that you can teach up to a certain level. I was terrified of not knowing what to do and having to learn the hard way and the hard lesson I did not want it to have an effect on my student. So now that I have reviewed this video, I took my "lecture notes" line by line from this video, reviewed it many times and I am reading through the course description and outline now. This has averted a lot of stress on the part of myself and my student. I hope this video is supported by other persons who are advancing their career in teaching. Thank you Dr CST

    Wow this is really helpful. I really benefitted a lot especially on the issue of keeping hand written notes throughout the years.

    Thanks for this wonderful video. I am also trying to become a lecturer (hopefully soon). I took part some part-time responsibilities so far. I would definitely want to see a video showing how something goes wrong.

    Hi Caroline, can you do a video on handling large classes with 100 plus students? I am teaching a big class this time and need some suggestions to manage them.

    Hi, this may be irrelevant to the video, but I have a few questions.
    1. I used to play as a teacher when I was a kid, and wanted to be a teacher. Can I become a lecturer instead of a high school teacher? :D
    2. What is the difference between a professor and a lecturer?
    3. Can I become a a lecturer with just a Masters?

      Thanks for watching. In answer to the questions:
      1. This video might help ua-cam.com/video/-qqBRzOp3oQ/v-deo.html on routes to becoming a uni lecturer.
      2. In the UK the academic ranks are lecturer, senior lecturer, reader and then professor. In the US an assistant professor is analogous to a UK lecturer. Check out 7'32 in this video ua-cam.com/video/y9NYJFSU4BQ/v-deo.html 😊
      3. All depends on your subject and the location you are looking to become a lecturer in. For physics in the UK we tend to need the PhD, but it will be different for other subjects.
      Hope that helps!

      It depends who you ask. Some will say you must have a PhD some will say you don't My girlfriend is a Lecturer for 20 years and does not have a PhD - neither do many of her colleagues. I have a Master's and preparing for a Guest lecture because I have experience in my field. In My field - the creative industries you do not need a PhD - strictly speaking. But it depends on the institution. For Humanities and Sciences they'd almost certainly insist on it. But for lecturing software packages or technical stuff such as Film school you won't.

    what're the difference between teaching first year and final year (third year) students? Thank you

    • @DrCST
      @DrCST  3 роки тому +2

      Aside from the increasing complexity in taught subject material, the class size may get smaller (as students are selecting specialist modules in the later years of study); final year students often have developed their preferred independent learning style (which helps supports their studies alongside the taught class); sometimes the students in the 2nd and 3rd year may be more comfortable with the teaching academics so happy to ask more questions; often the final year contributes significantly to the overall degree grade for the students too!
