Hi Deano, something that I don't see many people comment on is the music you create for the vids... Sounds real nice matey, epic soundscapes to compliment the epic landscapes.
Thank you for watching and for your kind words regarding the music. I love making the tracks to go with the videos, it's all part of the creative process and something that brings me joy 😁
Another awesome video Dean... Well done to you and Steph!!! Your catching us up very quick 😂😂 we'll be back on the trail 2 weeks on Friday but at a much more sedate pace Gargrave to Horton... If you catch us up feel free to stop for a hob nob and fruit tea 😂😂😂 Can't wait for the next installment!!
Another great day on the PW Dean and Stef. That view from Laddow Rocks must be one of the Peak District’s finest. It’s great to see you tackling the PW again. I’ve only walked as far as Black Hill so I’m really looking forward to next month and seeing more of the trail for myself
Brings back memories of my summer spine sprint, light was failing as I approached Wessenden Head and I'd has a massive sense of humour failure climbing black hill. SST and a few words of encouragement from my wingman sorted me out. All in though the most memorable 16hrs and 27mins of my life... Maybe I'll jump up to the challenger at some point, who knows 🤔
Thanks for watching Martin... I'm really looking forward to tackling the challenger, I have a bit of a Pennine Way obsession. Interested to see how I deal with the fatigue and pushing myself over that distance. I know I can walk that far so it'll just be managing tiredness... Can't wait 😁
@@DeanRead although I did plenty of running during my training for the Sprint, it soon became apparent that from talking to previous spine racers that most of my time would be spent walking (and it was). Getting out and walking/running sections in the dark that you expect to do in the dark on race day pays off as well. Looking forward to watching the rest of your recce videos..
I've got some bigger days planned as the time goes on but definitely need some overnight training. I'm confident with Nav and I know the course well but tiredness may cloud my judgements 😁 Let me know if you have any more tips, I'm keen to learn from previous Spiners and Ultra Runners 👍
If you're not already, look to joint the "official spine group" on Facebook, an absolute font on knowledge form some very experienced people. But getting the nav right will definitely save you a lot of time and faff. Also kit admin, knowing where everything is in your pack/drop bag. Everything you can do to reduce faffing around and therefore stress is a massive bonus..
I'm in the group 👍 definitely agree that it's a great place to hoover up some knowledge. I've been toying with what pack to take with me but will get out for some practice trips when I decide. Will look at the kit list again and do a big day with all required stuff with food/water.
That was a cracking section. The Crowden Horseshoe including Black Hill is on the to do list, so it was great to see some of the landscape up there. The weather was very kind to you 👍. Looking forward to the next section! 😀
I sympathise @@DeanRead 😀. Had to resort to watching some Peak District walking footage at lunchtime today to ease the pain 🤣🤣. Just want to be up there out in the wild and not working in my office…. 😬
Great see you back on the Pennine Way and taking it as a new challenge because that is definitely what life's about keep on Challenge ourselves in different ways 👌
I couldn't agree more, trying to keep pushing myself and see how far my legs will take me. I'm sure I'll get to my limit at multiple points during the Spine Challenger but looking forward to seeing how I overcome those obstacles. Thanks for watching
Really enjoyed watching Dean, this is the section that we first met you on so it brings back some fond memories. Great job with the running - you don't even huff and puff while chatting and running! Recap is great, especially set to your music. Can't wait for part 3.
Thanks for watching Julie. Seems like a lifetime ago when we met on the PW. Hope you're both doing well 👍 Part 3 this weekend all being well. Marsden to Hebden Bridge
I was watching a US bike channel where the vlogger had problems with the GoPro 8 and ended up going back to an older model. I seem to recall reading about other people having issues as well. I still think the Sony FDR X 3000 is the best sports cam out there. Despite it being a few years old now and I've been impressed with a DJI Osmo Action.
Thanks for watching 👍 I've found that trying to turn the GoPro off straight after a recording has finished annoys it.. it's very slow indeed so you have to give it time to catch up. It's a shame really as I've been very impressed with it other than the slow software.
Great vid as usual and I lobe that you always give a description of the surrounding areas. Without that I’d never know what was around even having seen the places I didn’t have a clue where they were so thanks dean. P’s when in the Spine race that you’re hoping to enter
in the past there used to be an organised event "race" called the Ten Reservoirs Walk, it covered most of your route today, completing a circuit. Highly recommended event if its still held. Another great one was the Wear Valley Way up in the north east. Well worth investigating, great walks.
I did the trek down Wessenden Head the other week - really nice views over the reservoirs there. Will have to go back to check out the waterfalls. Hoping to do Laddow Rocks soon.
@@DeanRead hahaha as soon as i get out im going to run 100,000 steps by the river in the city where i am -im thinking of filming it as well - i will keep you posted about that !
Beautiful Section with great views, often do it myself starting in Marsden, going over Black Hill, Torside Clough, Bleaklow, Devils Dyke and down the Roman Road, Doctors Gate Path into Glossop, love it you should try running up the Roman Road from Glossop good testing climb all the way. Anyway another nice video, you got lucky with the weather, what Day was it, cheers.
I like that you are using public transport. When we used to visit the Bakewell area, I got the bus schedule booklet and spent many hours thinking about how you would get from point A to point B using public transport. Even the last time we were there staying in Millers Dale, 2018, we took the bus from Millers Dale to Litton and then walked down to Cressbrook and then one day we parked in Tadington and took the bus into Derby to go to the Royal Derby Factor. I looked and you could have taken the bus from Hadfield to Sheffield instead of the train and it says it would be quicker. Is there a reason you are sticking to the trains?
Hi Stephen thanks for watching. There are so many options at this stage of the route, perhaps not as we get further north. We chose the train as we live near Dore Totley station and it's a longer walk from Sheffield itself. From memory the bus was sporadic on the Sunday that we did the route too as I'd looked at getting it from Crowden rather than Hadfield.
Thanks for watching 👍 I'll give as much info as I can regarding public transport. All being well we're heading out to do part 3 from Marsden to Hebden Bridge this weekend via the trains
Another good video. The go pro battery is desperately bad, thats why I went with the dji osmo action. The quality is as good as if not better than the gopro 8 black, but battery is much better
I agree, the battery on the GoPro isn't great to say they've had 10+ years to improve it and it doesn't last any longer than my old version 3. My Sony batteries last lots longer.
Hi Dean, hoping to walk the Pennine Way next year so I'm really fascinated by these videos. I've always wondered why the trig point at Black Hill is shown as 'soldiers lump' on the map, any ideas?
Thanks for watching Maurice, I hope you have a great time when you walk the Pennine Way. I'm sure I read somewhere that the name 'soldiers lump' is to do with the royal engineers, they were the ones originally tasked to do the mapping for the ordnance survey. Don't quote me on that though 🤣
@@DeanRead Thanks, that makes sense, I'm sure there's a great story lurking behind the name, (maybe even a Hollywood blockbuster starring Tom Hanks!!). Good luck with the rest of the runs.
Love the end of the video we’re you recap every thing very nice. I looked in the description hoping to see which hydration jacket your both wearing there was no info on them could you enlighten me please which your have on ?
Thanks for watching. I'm wearing a Harrier Kinder 10 litre pack and Stef is wearing a Harrier Curbar 5 litre. I can highly recommend them, Kate at Harrier has thought of everything you could need. Also, it's a local business too as they are from Derbyshire.. win win 👍
Ive only just found out that the Pennine Way and Pennine Bridleway are two different things🙄 I bet you never thought you would be running it this time round after walking it last time, are you still doing the PB diet ? Good luck.
I certainly never thought I'd be attempting to run it now, a long way to go fitness wise but feel like I'm in a good place to try at the moment. Still doing the PB diet, no turning back for me. 4 1/2 years in and I feel better than ever 👍😎 Thanks for watching
We got distracted with other things sadly and Stef plays hockey for 6 months over autumn / winter. We'll be back at it again soon hopefully. Thanks for watching
@@DeanRead No problem! Are you still doing the Challenger and planning to do any filming on the race? I did the Challenger last time (2020) just before lockdown and will be there over the weekend for the full Spine on Sunday!
What a lovely walk/run over the Pennines. I loved driving my bus to Marsden Dirker and Marsden Hard end. Beautiful scenery.
The Adventure continues this weekend so there may be more spots you recognise coming soon 👍😎 Thanks again for watching
I always drove up to buckstones past the Nont Sarah's pub since my late teens. Lovely view from up there and 10-12 mins drive away.
