There are rules in many sports to protect competitors and provide as equal a playing field as possible. The disqualification came in 2023. Keep in mind this is a corrupt organization backed by Russians and the disqualification came only after a Russian was defeated in semifinals. The results were never made public so it seems there really needs to be an independent investigation.

The 'gender test' was carried out by a Russian boxing federation, conveniently after Khelif beat a Russian fighter. Members of that federation couldn't agree if on what test had actually been carried out however, one rep said it was chromosomes, another said testosterone. DSDs are real. Some people have male and female genitalia and don't fit neatly into the category of male and female like most of us do. Imagine if you have a baby, and everyone thinks it's a girl. You raise it as a girl. No one has a problem with this until some confidential gender test is done. That's gotta be hard. How should Imane live his/her life. It's a tough spot to be in. Even if he/she quit sports then what? How would they live out other aspects of their life.
