Bahahaha this riff was literally a demo lick that our guitarist brought in for a class that made me asking him to join our band 10 years ago. So it was basically a musical assignment haha but with a ton of heart. If you listen again and treat the constant 16th notes as a textural thing and focus on the grooves and vocals it feels a bit more straight forward, albiet there are start/stops galore. Thanks for checking it out! Really stoked you enjoyed the sound
Haha! Oh my god that is amazing 😂 As I said, it’s wildly impressive. Very difficult to do what you folks put together here. An abundant feast for the ears but goddamn on first listen it was too much for my brain 😅 Will no doubt be checking out more at some stage. Thanks for the added context there!
“A musical assignment you’d get at University” 🤣 You killed me! Hahaha. I’m pretty sure these fellas are all Berklee alumni. So you hit the nail on the head with that one. You also picked up on the DGD and Dear Hunter parallels. Which says a LOT about my taste, doesn’t it? Fair critiques all around. I absolutely fell in love with the warm tones of this band. And admittedly, I probably listened to this song a dozen times to “get it” before I was able to hum along while I do the dishes. Not for everyone, but I had a feeling you’d at least find bits and pieces in there to be pretty awe-inspiring. There’s no questioning their talent. My ADHD brain just clicks with this stuff sometimes. Their sound is so busy and proggy, but so mellow and (to use their own description) cozy. I really dig it but it certainly has a flavor about it that not everyone is always in the mood for.
Sweeeeet - that melted my proggy heart! Loved the little fills that appeared seemingly from nowhere, but just needed to be there. Thanks for this one Craig!
Oh man you have to check out Outliers by these guys. Very very different from this song as it’s an 11 minute long prog metal epic. One of the best prog songs ever written. A complete masterpiece from start to finish
PLEASE do more from them. Outliers and Captain No Beard are my favorites and i think are their best songs. They are even more wild than this one, but thats what makes them fun!
