White farmers were very good at what they did. Productively farming the land. This is what is most important to a counties food supply. Excess profits should have been taxed, rather than wholesale eviction of farmers.

The point of allowing former owners of land to re-own the real estate is to generate taxes and revenue from outside sources. The current African country's tactic is to allow foreign investment into the country, in order to retake and nationalize the same property they took 20 years ago, therefore, in effect they want to steal again from the very people they stole from the first time. They cannot do this tactic with the black citizens currently inhabiting those properties, because they generate very little income and little to no foreign assets or exchanges are occurring with the present state of the agricultural economy. Zimbabwe has been a dead husk for over a decade, because of infighting and former rulers that didn't want to establish democratic governance.

In 1997, Tony Blair reneged on the deal and stopped funding the compensation fund, so Zimbabwe simply took the land since the deal was off. Angered by circumstances they themselves brought about, the west imposed crippling sanctions on Zimbabwe and created the basket case that we see today. It's also worth noting that the US government was willing to put up US TAXPAYER dollars to compensate white Zimbabwean farmers for their loses despite the fact that the American taxpayer did not bring about the conditions that saw these people lose their land. Interesting, considering the fact that the "I had nothing to do with your loss" is always employed to block slavery reparations for black people in the US. The black Zimbabwean people know how to farm and can take care of themselves.
Just make it illegal for foreign citizens to own land. If a foreign citizen had land there, pay them back for what was paid for. Then sell the land to its citizens. I don't understand what the problem is. Many countries allow only their citizens to own land.
How to collect lands from landowners is severe problem in any country. In Zembabwe, mixed with racial and colonial problem, so how to give lands to peasants was forced with tragedy. In Japan, land reform was implemented in occupied and most peasants was given lands, but landowners was guaranteed the lands which is cultivated by oneself not by peasants. Only cultivated by peasants landsーexcept lower 1ha farmー was forced to sell by government.

I am a black Zimbo living in Zim....Many many blacks were against how the land was taken away from the Whites in the year 2000. I am also aware of how the best land was systematically and unfairly given to the Whites under decades of colonial rule . However this is where prudent leadership was required..The country was and still is big enough for both whites and Blacks. This was an opportunity for the leaders to avoid further damage to the country.

Since Mugabe took power, he banned other political parties (or co-opted them), instituted a reign of repression, thefts and ruination of the country. Not saying grass roof huts are a problem, I'm saying the farm went from an at least semi modern farm to one that would fit better in the 1800s then now. They threw the actual farmers off the land and gave it to non farmers. Now the government is letting whites rent or lease the land to farm. Hate to say it but if I were a white Zambian farmer, I'd never come back. Paying to lease what was your farm so the country (that threw you off your land, sometimes violently) doesn't starve? Not me
The point of allowing former owners of land to re-own the real estate is to generate taxes and revenue from outside sources. The current African country's tactic is to allow foreign investment into the country, in order to retake and nationalize the same property they took 20 years ago, therefore, in effect they want to steal again from the very people they stole from the first time. They cannot do this tactic with the black citizens currently inhabiting those properties, because they generate very little income and little to no foreign assets or exchanges are occurring with the present state of the agricultural economy. Zimbabwe has been a dead husk for over a decade, because of infighting and former rulers that didn't want to establish democratic governance.

Not enough attention was paid to WHY Zimbabwe is where it is now. The UK and Britain agreed to pay compensation to white farmers so that the land would be returned to the Zimbabwean people. In 1997, Tony Blair reneged on the deal and stopped funding the compensation fund, so Zimbabwe simply took the land since the deal was off. Angered by circumstances they themselves brought about, the west imposed crippling sanctions on Zimbabwe and created the basket case that we see today. It's also worth noting that the US government was willing to put up US TAXPAYER dollars to compensate white Zimbabwean farmers for their loses despite the fact that the American taxpayer did not bring about the conditions that saw these people lose their land. Interesting, considering the fact that the "I had nothing to do with your loss" is always employed to block slavery reparations for black people in the US. The black Zimbabwean people know how to farm and can take care of themselves.

How to collect lands from landowners is severe problem in any country. In Zembabwe, mixed with racial and colonial problem, so how to give lands to peasants was forced with tragedy.
In Japan, land reform was implemented in occupied and most peasants was given lands, but landowners was guaranteed the lands which is cultivated by oneself not by peasants. Only cultivated by peasants landsーexcept lower 1ha farmー was forced to sell by government.
All that Mugabe fought for is just gonna be in vain.
